Point 783

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Supermarionation: Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons: Point 783
By Kinggodzillak on Friday, September 28, 2001 - 2:21 pm:

How come Scarlet doesn't sense the Mysteron reproductions of Storm and Brooks?
What happened to all the reporters when Brooks exploded?

By DJU on Monday, October 01, 2001 - 12:06 pm:

Well he was no were near and he did notice something fishy in the lift but did not say anything

:) :(

By Phillip Culley (Pculley) on Monday, December 17, 2001 - 11:46 am:

You have to worry about Scarlet's priorities when Brookes exploded - he brought down Blue's protection booth before the Director Generals (or whatever he was - I forget). Thank goodness he didn't explode straight away - Scarlet and Blue would survive and the DG wouldn't :)

By DJU on Monday, December 17, 2001 - 12:34 pm:

Supreme Commander(Earth Forces) actually
and the building brookes exploded in was SHEF
Supreme Headquaters Earth Forces

:)

By Kinggodzillak on Monday, December 17, 2001 - 1:46 pm:

That was a quite wussy explosion compared to Brown in 'The Mysterons'
And I love the action of the guard (played by Lt Dean) when Brookes starts steaming - he just stands there, as if this was some everyday event. Then beween frames he's suddenly comes to his senses and legs it! :)

By Phillip Culley (Pculley) on Monday, December 17, 2001 - 2:49 pm:

Thanks DJU - I really should pay more attention to the characters (I blame my sister for think it was a really good idea to have a CD blaring in the background) Of course, once I get the Scarlet boxset for Christmas (fingers crossed) I should be able to rewatch them :)

By neil on Monday, December 17, 2001 - 6:45 pm:

i don't see the point of major brooks saying "we will be avanged" and therefore giving himself away, why didn't he remain silent and blow up, the supreme commander might have been killed if that had happened

By Paul Joyce on Saturday, January 12, 2002 - 11:26 am:

That's the Mysteron psyche for you...

By Paul Joyce on Friday, January 18, 2002 - 10:58 am:

Imagine this. You're a Spectrum agent, ferrying a targeted VIP to a secret destination. One attempt on his life has already been made. You open the door, and there's this guy pointing a gun at Mr VIP. What do you do? You take combative action IMMEDIATELY. Except if you're Captain Blue, that is...

By Kinggodzillak on Friday, January 18, 2002 - 2:23 pm:

He DID take combative action. He stuck his hand up in front of Mr VIP. :)

By Paul Joyce on Friday, January 18, 2002 - 2:40 pm:

I think the contretemps between Scarlet and Storm in the SPV was very well done - there's a lot of tension and the quiet, sinister music helps.

By Adam on Saturday, January 19, 2002 - 4:06 pm:

But a long pause after Storm says "Don't try anything." Then Scarlet tries to eject and gets shot three times and then has to wait for three hours just to be sent to the hospital.
Scarlet is a very unlucky sod in this episode.

By Kinggodzillak on Saturday, January 19, 2002 - 5:06 pm:

Yep. He also looked extremely bored waiting for the SPV owner to get off the phone. If it is urgent Spectrum business, surely he should ignore the phone call?

By Paul Joyce on Sunday, January 20, 2002 - 10:44 am:

I remember a few people expressed disatisfaction with this episode during the chat we had afterwards - I can't imagine why.

By Kinggodzillak on Tuesday, February 19, 2002 - 1:44 pm:

When Scarlet comes rushing out of the shop in the SPV, should the whole building shake like it does?

By Paul Joyce on Tuesday, February 19, 2002 - 2:39 pm:

Of course it should! :)

By Paul Joyce on Monday, February 25, 2002 - 10:20 am:

Let's go back to the gun for a moment. What exactly did Storm initially plan to do with the gun? Did he plan to give the Supreme Commander a demonstration of it, and then 'accidently' shoot him dead? 'Oops, sorry folks, put a bit too much pressure on the trigger there....'

And will someone please tell him that repeater automatics have been around since WW1?

By Kinggodzillak on Monday, February 25, 2002 - 1:20 pm:

This one, however, was a slightly different shad of pinky russet.
Storm's plan was obviously to demonstrate how a Mysteron can blow his cover without no-one noticing. Power games, y'know. :)

By Paul Joyce on Wednesday, February 27, 2002 - 2:34 pm:

Yes - then he can become head of SHEF and consign General Cope to toilet roll duty. Then he will be released from Mysteron control and dye his hair a purplish shade of orange-grey (with shades of gold). Then he will have a million dollars worth of plastic surgery and take voice lessons so that he sounds like Inspector Clouseau. He will become the KING OF COOL, then he will spontaneously combust :)

By Kinggodzillak on Wednesday, February 27, 2002 - 2:59 pm:

Or he could just shoot them. Whichever turns out best.

By D.K. Henderson on Friday, April 11, 2003 - 5:40 pm:

"Where is your sixth sense now, Captain?"

That's what I'd like to know. Why didn't he notice this Mysteron reconstruction sitting just a couple feet away from him?

And why did it take three hours to get a Spectrum heliocopter there? They could have put him in an Army heliocopter and headed for a rendezvous point with Spectrum. If they're trying to keep Captain Scarlet's abilities secret, they should at least try to treat him as an ordinary man, and an ordinary injured man would never be made to wait three hours.
