The Disappearing Ships

Kind of an interesting premise: that a nomad race would utilize wrecked ships as homes.

I liked the idea of Poker Night; it gives the characters more dimension. Now, if they'd just allow Marina to play was well, instead of just kibbutzing over Troy's shoulder...actually, neither she nor Troy seem to grasp the concept of poker very well.

Having been captured by Parasitica (which sounds more like the name of their "city" than a person) why didn't they just take him to deck of the ship where the bombs were attached and show him what was going on? For that matter, the guy had been on that deck, to open the sluices. "Sir, didn't you see those gadgets on the wall and the numbers clicking down? That's the timer for the bombs...."

So the door got jammed shut and they just sit down and wait to die, huh? I think I would have started ripping at the walls or the portholes or SOMETHING.

Notice that it's Commander Shore, the man confined to a hover chair, who realizes that it's possible to communicate with Marina after his daughter gives up. In fact, it's the Commander who realizes that the tapping sound IS Marina, not just some odd noise.

I really enjoyed the ending to this one. That Troy would go to all the trouble of pawing through rubbish to retrieve Atlanta's treasured candy box was very sweet. Not to mention the kitten. It's one of the only times so far that I've seen Troy really paying attention to Atlanta (with Marina in the same room, yet!)

It's no wonder that most of the underwater races are annoyed with the people upstairs. Worn-out old ships? Oh, let's just take them out in the ocean, blow them up and junk up the sea bed with the debris. Why not disassemble them and melt down the scrap for reuse?

BTW, when Troy is holding that candy box, you can see that it's quite flat, but it suddenly becomes deep enough to hold a kitten.
