Titan Goes Pop

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Supermarionation: Stingray: Titan Goes Pop

Titan kidnaps a visiting pop singer, Duke Dexter, then lets him go. He feels that the frenzied reaction of the fans proves that Duke is actually an enemy of the Terraneans.

The humor in this episode is aimed straight at the adult viewers. I kept giggling the whole way through. I also kept wondering, as I did for the Beatles and Elvis: how can the fans hear the music when they're so busy screaming?

Agent X20, dressed in his teen rags, wearing a mop top and waving a sign, was priceless.

I also liked where Duke's manager demanded that someone provide a distraction while Duke was smuggled into Marineville--"a brave man". Enter Troy Tempest.... I loved Troy's comment when he staggered into the control tower, battered, lipsticked, his sweater in shreds: "I thought that the fans LIKED you...."

I suppose that they did their best, but the scene of Troy running through the streets just did not work well.

The reason they gave for Duke showing up in Marineville--part of a recruitment program--was very plausible. On the other hand, would you really want any of those screaming fans in the WASPS?

Warning to anyone visiting under the sea: Don't drink the octopus juice.
