International Concerto

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Supermarionation: Joe 90: International Concerto

A very poor ending after a very good ep.

TONIGHT ! IN : Joe 90!

Captain Grey takes Destiny Angel to a concert.

'Edit out Sladek's voice, and do what you can about the background.'
Figuring that one out will keep Kelly busy for hours, seeing as how Sladek's voice isn't on the transmission.

Well, actually it is, but only 2 words right at the start which don't affect any of the information on it. And someone seems to have edited it up nicely anyway.

How did Casper and his chum know that Sladek's pen was a transmitter? By the time they lose it in the piano, no one has had any suspicions about him.

I liked how Joe showed up the grownups, easily decoding the telegram message.

Joe and Sam were making way too much noise in the radio room, banging on the floor and whispering.

Why didn't Sladek query how a nine-year-old boy could play in his style so easily?

I think that they rely too heavily on the notion that no one will believe that a child could have done anything seriously wrong. One of these days Mac and Joe are going to tell the truth, and be believed. There are child piano prodigies, after all.

BTW, about that pen...whatisface seemed suspicious about the fact that Sladek had been out on the balcony in the first place, but he didn't press it any further. Then, after the other guy had Sladek sign his piece of sheet music, it looked as though he deliberately tipped the pen into the piano. I thought that perhaps they were hoping that Sladek would frantically burrow in the piano for the pen, thus proving its importance. Sladek carefully avoided doing so, and seemed to realize at that point that he was in imminent peril. Did they cut a scene here? Did the bad guys fish out the pen and examine it?

By D.K. Henderson on Monday, August 18, 2003 - 5:55 am:

According to my episode guide, there was a deleted scene where they fished the pen out of the piano and examined it. I do think that the autograph hunter was told to tip the pen into the piano.

I would like to know what the "nine" indictments would have been. Seems a tad excessive. They probably just wanted them to match his age.

The smudges on Sam's face varied from scene to scene, but I suppose that he could have rubbed at his face when we weren't looking.

I understand that the live child's hands at the keyboard were provided by the son of Supermarionation's super composer.

During the first embassy party scene, you can see a blond man from the back that almost looked like Captain Blue.

I had to look twice at Captain Grey. I'm not used to seeing him without his cap.

I doubt anyone will ever read this, seeing as the last post was made over 4 years ago, but I just thought I'd add that I am able to play the International Concerto. There is no music available as I understand it, so I had to learn it off the CD. There's a video of me playing it on youtube. Alfie.
