The first appearance of the Subterrans.

By Adam on Thursday, December 06, 2001 - 11:11 am:

When Zodiac first encounters the Subterrans he fires his jet mobile gun but the glass tube shields the Subterrans but when they fire, the gun effects Zodiac but don't you think the rays would of bounced back hitting the Subterran?

Venus' scream was way over the top too.

I'll second that! :)

The minute long missile launch scene is re-used in Planet of Platonia.
Gotta love Steve's pecking bird impression! :)

By Adam on Friday, July 26, 2002 - 1:39 am:

Why is the Subterran that's in the rocket with Venus half asleep?

By Kinggodzillak on Monday, July 29, 2002 - 1:50 pm:

He looks so sad when he is pulled in on the rope at the end :)

By Adam on Tuesday, July 30, 2002 - 2:50 am:

Isn't the threat that Mattic tells the Subterrain Chief so pathetic? "If you don't we'll be forced to destroy your planet." I mean it doesn't matter what happens to planet 46, The chief isn't going back to it and it's bad enough that the chief can't even shake his head right :)

By Kinggodzillak on Tuesday, July 30, 2002 - 1:24 pm:

Well thats probably dut to the fall from his high chair. :)

This is a general XL5 nit, so heres as good a place as any for it go. Whenever Fireball Jnr separates from the main ship, the observation deck is engulfed with smoke.

I just got the set of episodes yesterday. It's interesting to see the changes that have been made since this series came out, but I think that I've been spoiled by the different expression heads that they used in the later series. Venus' perpetual grin, in any and every situation, gets a little wearing. Steve's more sober expression fits in better, I think.
Venus seemed to be trying to tone her thigh muscles in this episode. In a lot of the shots of her on the hoverjet, her rump did not appear to be resting on the seat.
I was startled to hear that full-throated scream as she approached the blocked cave entrance, as I've gotten accustomed to more muted vocal expressions. Just why did she scream so loud, anyway?
In my Gerry Anderson episode guide, Venus is described as being 19. A fully qualified physician, with added training in space medicine, 19 years old? An early version of Doogie Howser?
Those are really remarkable pills. They give you oxygen AND complete protection from instant freezing in the vacuum of space.

I think that it's going to be a lot of fun going through the episodes.

Oh, by the way, who on EARTH (or Mars, or Planet 46, or whatever) came up with the euphemism "tootie"? It might be a kids' show, but the characters are supposed to be adults.

When Steve rescues Venus and that hapless Subterrain from open space, he ropes them all together and they get dragged back to XL5. I was reminded of the credits in Lost in Space, where they show cartoon images of the family roped together in space as their names are shown. Wonder if this show gave them the idea?

The Subterain was able to shoot Steve as he was protected by a glass tube that blocked Steve's gun but it rose up so the subterain could shoot Steve.

I think the Chieftain did care what happend to his people so gave in when they threatened to destroy is planet. It might be rough if aliens took you prisoner but wouldn't you tell them something to save all of Earth.
