Is Fireball XL5, with its detachable Fireball Jr, a new innovation? Why did the entire XL2 ship land on the planet?

That "crash landing" of Fireball Jr. looked pretty controlled to me, just a little harder bump than a normal landing. Just a little bump is sufficient to wipe out the radio? And, considering that they have radio links in the hoverjets, why didn't they use one to call the Professor right away?

They missed the chance for a nice, justifiable scream from Venus when Nessie poked his head in the cave.

It never occurred to anyone to try luring Nessie away using the hoverjets while someone else got to Fireball Jr.

The impression I got at the beginning was that the one pilot had been injured (and where'd they get the blanket, anyway?) but when Steve and Venus arrived, the other pilot said that he was sick. In either case, he seemed to recover fairly quickly once they got back to the ship.

Prof. Matic announced that he could see Fireball Jr, but the shot on the screen was of the wrecked XL2. Junior had been set down quite some distance from the wreck, as they had to fly the hoverjets for a while before discovering XL2.

It didn't seem to occur to anyone to try luring the monster away with one of the hoverjets while Steve went for Fireball Jr.
