Apparently Gerry Anderson has planned a new, CGI-enhanced series of Captain Scarlet. What do you think? Will it be a success, or will it be put to shame by the 'antiquated' puppets of the 1960s?
I'd watch it! Are they going to have the same actors' voices, or new ones?
Hi Philip, great site, will sift through all the posts tomorrow.
About CGI Scarlet:
It will be awful. The new redesigned SPV looks diabolical, poor Derek will be turning in his grave. The plot from what I've seen is all Captain Scarlet v Captain Black, a theme that the original series never touched on. Also, Black was a cold, calculating, silent bad guy, the CGI stuff has turned him into a human Darth Vader.
Gerry Anderson seems to be hell-bent on wrecking his own shows. All I hope is that the disaster that the CGI remakes will be will prove that it was the entire APF team that contributed to the success of Supermarionation, in particular Sylvia Anderson, Derek Meddings and of course Barry Gray.
Where can I get information on this new Captain Scarlet show? CS was one of my favorite shows as a kid. Feel free to email me at alighieri_dante@hotmail.com. Thanks.
And looky here...

Captain Scarlet loses strings for new series
Captain Scarlet is to have his strings removed for a new 26-part TV series.
The characters from the '60s puppet show are being recreated using computer-generated imagery.
More than 50 animators are working on the project at London's Pinewood Studios, with the series scheduled for broadcast in 2004.
Captain Scarlet creator Gerry Anderson told Teletext: "We're in final negotiations over the financing and we should be in pre-production by July. Then a series will take two years to make, with a team of 50 animators working on the project.
"We have done a five-minute test sequence using the new technique with Captains Scarlet, Black and Blue and it looks wonderful.
"There are no strings, the characters move like humans and they have expressions, unlike the original show. It is a great improvement."
It is thought that the BBC will screen the new Captain Scarlet series when it is completed in 2004.
The corporation has recently repeated the original 32-part series, as well as series featuring Anderson's other puppet creations, Thunderbirds and Stingray.

According to a news item, in the latest issue of the British Sf/Fantasy magazine SFX, Gerry Anderson might be producing a CGI
Thunderbirds series, after work on the
Captain Scarlet series is complete, sometime later this year.
The reason being, that due to the live action
Thunderbirds movie's disasterous box office returns, which have made the current holders, Working Title Films effectively bankrupt.
As a result of this, the rights have
apparently reverted back to Granada Television, who according to Gerry Anderson are easier to work with...
So could there be a Hypermarionation Thunderbirds series in the near future...?.
it seems that the CGI series of Captain Scarlet will debut on the 12th Feburary (abeit only the first 9 episodes) in the U.K....
I'm currently watching the CGI episodes of Captain Scarlet,it is very impressive! The design work for everything from Skybase to all of the Spectrum aircraft & vehicles is sensational.I'm ready for a CGI Thunderbirds TV show if they can have the quality of Captain Scarlet.
