Episode 40 / Japanese Linking Material

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Supermarionation: Stingray: Episode 40 / Japanese Linking Material

I discovered that I had this on the bonus material of my last disc, although it did not include everything, according to what I read on the S.I.G. homepage. It showed the establishing scenes with Commander Shore, the Admiral, and Troy, waiting to attend a reunion dinner. Atlanta and Marina were "wearing out the mirror" getting ready, so they started watching some Stingray film to pass the time. Each time they began watching a clip, it was quickly cut off, which I presume did not happen in the full version. They showed the house on Lemoy, with Agent X20, a shot that "they" could not possibly have gotten on film. Phones showed up during the proceedings, then Atlanta and Marina showed up, Atlanta wearing a kimono and a rather interesting hairstyle that had never been seen before. It ended with Atlanta telling Troy, "The song, Troy...you forgot the song!" I was left wondering if he DID actually start singing, and if so, who provided the background music for him? As clip shows go, "Aquanaut of the Year" was much better.

(I really, really cannot see Troy describing how he sang to Marina during his rapture-induced hallucination to Atlanta or anyone else.)

Probably the silliest blooper in the whole of SuperM: Troy's dream being on tape.

Maybe that's one of the reasons that it's SUPER-marionation!

According to What Made Thunderbirds Go, the reason that they put together this partial episode in the first place was that they were uncertain if they would get permission to borrow the concept of "This is Your Life" from the copyright holder. Once permission had been given, they stopped working on this episode.

This makes sense. However....

While the biography stated that this episode had been found in a can labeled "Stingray--Japanese Linking Material", it makes no comment whatsoever on why it would be so labeled. It also does not mention the curious fact that Atlanta showed up in a kimono and a hairstyle that had never been seen before.
