"Looking Good!"--Favorite Moments

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Supermarionation: The Kitchen Sink: "Looking Good!"--Favorite Moments

What are some of your favorite moments from the different series? I'm not referring to whole episodes, or even whole scenes. Just little things--an expression, a gesture, a tone of voice, that was just "right". Here are some of mine, from "Thunderbirds".

*Virgil's reaction in "Move--and You're Dead" when Tin-Tin says that she wishes she could be with Alan--"Just to keep him company, you know."
*Gordon holding his finger to his lips in "The Perils of Penelope".
*Gordon suddenly rising to his feet and peering closely out of Thunderbird 4 when he finally heard Ned Cook's voice in "Terror in New York City."
*The way Jeff and Gordon both jerked in reaction upon hearing that Thunderbird 3 had not fired its retros in "Sun Probe."
*The way Alan hid behind a magazine, shaking with silent laughter, as his father realized that HE was the one who had eaten the edible transmitter (with the nice raspberry flavor). (Can't recall the episode--"Brink of Disaster" or "Day of Disaster" perhaps.)
*The Irish farmer, trying to quiet his cow and turning his head to listen to Scott in "Operation Crash-Dive."
*Scott bowed down in utter despair, thinking of the missing astronaut they were not allowed to help in "The Imposters".
* "Open this door--we're British!"
*Jeff turning to look at Scott's portrait after Scott had been shot down in "The Uninvited."
*Virgil yelling at the Fireflash pilot to raise the wing after it almost missed the elevator car in "Trapped in the Sky."
*Virgil shielding Penelope in "The Perils of P".
*Culp suddenly twisting around and looking up at the sky after the crack of thunder in "Attack of the Alligators!".
*Scott and John after the rescue in "Danger at Ocean Deep"--"Oh, we're not arguing, we're just having a discussion...."
*Brains' tone of voice in the above episode, talking about the seaweed/plankton whatever--"Used to make dog food, of all things."

Here's also one from Stingray, from "The Man from the Navy"--Troy's expression when Atlanta announced that she was glad that SOMEONE had noticed her new dress.

Don't know about you, but I like it in 'Day of Disaster' when the two MSP engineers are talking and one of them clicks his fingers. This, of course, is impossible to do with puppets, but by jerking the puppet's hand while keeping it mainly out of shot just as we hear the 'click' makes it look quite convincing.

Here's one I like from Attack on Cloudbase

White - If we ever get out of this alive captain..
Scarlet - Sir?
White - .....get your hair cut will you

And when Magenta's trying to count the UFOs and messes up after two :)

Magenta - One, two...oh wait a minute

Bondson impatiently tapping his hand on the door of his car while waiting for Penelope to show up in "The Man from M.I.5".

Virgil's reaction when he believes that Rick O'Shea is still in the satellite in "Ricochet" and the harrowing decision he must make.

Parker's expression when Penelope claims to be traveling "light" in "The Imposters".

By D.K. Henderson on Friday, May 09, 2003 - 4:45 am:

Jeremiah Tuttle and his Ma looking at each other after Penelope has refused his assistance and gone out. ("Guess we'd better follow her, Ma, or that poor city slicker is gonna get herself killed. Grab a few cans of beans while you're at it.")

From "30 Minutes After Noon": the janitor calling the police, and reaching to scratch his stomach. They could have had him standing still to make the call, but that scratch just added that little bit extra to the scene.

Also from "30 Minutes"--having puppets operating in the background and a live hand in the foreground--excellently done!

Episode 1 of Captain Scarlet, when he's in the helicopter (or whatever) with his hostage, and the hostage goes to the radio to call for help - Scarlet bangs his head off the dashboard. The hostage's head jerks back and his lip is split and for the rest of the scene, that puppet has a cut lip.

>> Scarlet bangs his head off the dashboard. <<

Eh? Looked more like a backhand chop to me.

By Alice on Monday, May 19, 2003 - 4:18 pm:

Yes you could be right - I think I remember that he is holding the receiver bit of the communicator and that bangs against his mouth.

And Scarlet does back hand him - I haven't seen this episode in ages! Sorry.

Still one of my fave moments though!

Yes, it is a good moment.

The dialogue from "Terror in New York City" between Scott and Virgil, from the first missile launch to the crash on the island. The exhaustion and despair in Virgil's voice, the anxiety in Scott's, followed by the sheer relief in Scott's voice when TB2 set down, and Virgil's voice cracking with an edge of panic as he realizes that he's going to crash anyway...WOW!

Gordon in "The Mighty Atom", where he's waiting to destroy the sea intake valves and impatiently tapping his hand, glancing at his watch, tapping some more....

The airport officer in the pilot episode, reporting an unknown air vehicle coming into the area, then sagging at the knees and falling into a chair as he realizes just how fast Thunderbird 1 is flying.
