How come the new DVD sets for "Fireball XL-5" and "Stingray" are so pricey? (Each retails at about $100 for a 5-disc set). By comparison, the complete "Thunderbirds" series, which encompasses 12 DVDs, is $125. That's just $25 more for seven more DVDs. I'd like to check out Fireball and Stingray, but the cost is just prohibitive.

They figure they've got their customers like "puppets on a string" (yuk yuk yuk) :)

Or perhaps the Thunderbirds DVDs come with "no strings attached"...

(sorry)

Re:Price differences between regions
The U.K price for the (Region 2) box set of Fireball XL-5 is about £40 ($65 ?) for the 5 disc set. I must agree with John A Lang over this (even though his pun's dreadful...)

I've been watching eps of both Captain Scarlet and Terrahawks recently, as I aquired both complete sets for less than 20 dollars each. It's interesting to compare both series and the fans reactions to them. Most fans seem to consider Captain Scarlet to be far superior. I wonder if nostalgia has a part to do with that (for those who grew up watching it as a kid)-I only saw Terrahawks as a kid. I had quite the opposite reaction. I find Terrahawks to be much more enjoyable; it has a fun over-the-top humour. Captain Scarlet seems to be so deadly serious and a bit dull at times. Many fans on the net also unfairly dismiss the effects in Terrahawks as being inferior to Captain Scarlet . While much of the miniature work in the 60's show appears more elaborate, the space scenes in Terrahawks are much better. Call it the Star Wars influence, or as the effects director says in his commentary -amped up Space:1999 style effects. Less impressive are the poorly done "American" accents of many characters. It reminds me of Xena where Kwiki actors affected phoney American accents, they sounded awful too.
