A Portrait for Troian

NANJAO: I think this episode would have been much more effective if there hadn't been the shot of the housekeeper fading out.

I didn't really see any motivation for the housekeeper to lock Sam into Troian's room. If she wanted Troian dead, why was that the only action she took? If not, why lock up Sam? And based on what everyone else was doing, I think that she was the only person who could have done it.

At magnitude 6.5, the earthquake in this episode was unusually powerful. Okay, it was the most powerful earthquake in the area until Northridge in 1994. It still seemed odd that the Claridge mausoleum, built in an earthquake zone at least a quarter-century earlier, was so devastated, despite no signs of earlier damage. And the only damage the house received was that a few books fell off the shelves. . .

I found the paintings to be interesting. Since they survived being wet, they must have been oils. But then the changes made meant that the modified paintings were almost certainly duplicates with changes, because otherwise the additions would have still been wet (and hopefully someone would have commented on this). So the would-be killer made (by my count) at least four copies of Troian's original (assuming that the original really was destroyed), each meant to be identical to the last except for a minor detail, from an original that was lost years ago, and good enough to fool the original artist. Wow, that's a good copyist.

So, Sam killed Jimmy. Did he mean to, or was Jimmy just in the way?
