Star-Crossed

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Quantum Leap: Season One: Star-Crossed
His name is Bryant.

Dr. Gerald Bryant.

And he is a college literature professor. A professor who is having an affair with another student... Who, unfortunately, has a football player in love with her..

More unfortunately, Sam has leaped into Gerald Bryant, and the date is June 15, 1972.

While trying to fix the girl with the boy, and fight off her frequent efforts to.. ahem... make love to him, Sam finds a familiar face..

Donna Elesee*. The woman who left Sam Beckett at the altar.
He proceeds to try to be a man with two missions... The second as being reunited Donna with her father who left when she was young, as to cure her abandonment fear, and, maybe, fix his life so his marriage exists...

But he needs help. But it ain't easy to get it out of Al. Finally Al hides information in symbols(egyptian language, I think, but I can't spell the word for it.) on a sash, and gets dragged out by guards because he broke the MAJOR rule.... And he may lose his job.

Sam got the info though, and finishs both missions. But does he get the girl?

We don't know untill The Leap Back..

=================

*Spelled different ways. By some: Alese. Others, Elese. Depends. Many different ways to spell it, I just don't know it all. I spell it Elesee.

Good episode. My nitpick is: Why can't Al tell Sam about his life? About Donna? Help him do both missions? If he's project observer, how can he lose his job?

My nit is: How come Donna looks different in the episode The Leap Back? Remember, nitpickers don't deal in reality (i.e. different actress).

I think that they couldn't get the girl that played her (Did that Superman show Lois and Clark start then?)

"The Leap Back"? Is that the one where Sam and
Al switch places?

By Alison on Saturday, July 31, 1999 - 12:33 am:

Also, "The Leap Back" was about 20 years after "Star Crossed" (from Donna's point of view).

By Rene on Saturday, August 07, 1999 - 8:24 pm:

I defintely like Teri Hatcher better than
that other actress who played her. The second
actress had an artificial voice.

Anyway...I was going to ask why Al never revealed
to Sam what happened to Donna. He usually gives
info to Sam about the consequences of Sam's
alterations to the timeline. Then I remembered
that "The Leap Back" stated that Donna told Al
not to tell Sam that he was married. But that
still raises a question...why didn't Sam ask
Al what happens to Donna after this?

Also, we never got an explanation as to why Donna
didn't marry the first person that she was
supposed to before Sam.

Someone already did this one... In this ep, Donna is a brunette. In "The Leap Back" she's a blonde.

I guess she could have bleached her hair...

Won't Dr. Bryant wonder why he is in Washington D.C. when he leaps back in?

By TWS Garrison on Thursday, April 06, 2006 - 1:01 am:

IIRC, in this episode Al tells Sam that this should be a short leap. But at this point Sam leaped once and was a test pilot for several days, and leaped again and was a baseball player for less than an hour. "Short leap" in the context they know is probably less time than has elapsed between Sam leaping in and Al talking to him.
