According to an unnamed source at TV Guide online, Universal Television is contemplating a QUANTEM LEAP reunion movie. The source told the site the studio was “exploring” the idea of reuniting Scott Bakula and Dean Stockwell in a two-hour network movie.

LEAP producer/creator Donald P. Bellisario had told the site earlier he’s been trying to get a reunion movie going for some time, but "Universal, who truly owns the rights to it, has never shown an interest."

What may have changed the studio’s mind is the newly expanded career of LEAP star Bakula, with his role on the surprisingly popular ENTERPRISE.

More on this as it develops.

It'll be interesting to see how they do it, considering that "Sam Beckett never returned home".

Just because Sam never returns home doesn't mean that Al couldn't find him somewhere in time and have another adventure. The last episode was meant to be open-ended in case of another season, TV movie, or movie.

The Sci-Fi Channel announced today it will produce a two-hour Quantum Leap movie, based on the hit 90s television show starring Scott Bakula (Jonathan Archer).

The TV film will be executive produced by Don P. Bellisario, the creator of the original television series. The movie is intended to serve as a back-door pilot for a new regular Quantum Leap series, assuming the TV movie is successful. It is not yet known whether Bakula will be reprising his role as Dr. Sam Beckett.

The Sci-Fi Channel was able to develop the series after it became part of the Universal Television Group, the owner of the Quantum Leap license. The network will also be developing a series based on Universal's 'Tremors' movies. "Projects such as Quantum Leap and Tremors are exactly why Sci-Fi is excited about being part of the Universal family," said network president Bonnie Hammer. "We have an opportunity to access the rich Universal library - which includes a vast array of horror and sci-fi titles - to create new television experiences for a contemporary audience."

Quantum Leap was the series that originally shot Scott Bakula to stardom. The actor received four Emmy nominations for his role as Sam Beckett, a scientist whose time travel experiments go wrong and is then forced to leap through time and into other people's bodies.

Rumours of a Quantum Leap revival have abounded since the final episode of the series, which provided little closure for fans. Both executive producer Bellisario and Scott Bakula have expressed their interest in a new series, with the actor even pitching the idea to Paramount shortly before he was asked to join the Star Trek franchise (story). Now that Bakula has a multi-year contract for Enterprise, it seems unlikely he would be able to participate in anything more than a one-time Quantum Leap revival.
