Shock Theatre

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Quantum Leap: Season Three: Shock Theatre

I don't see how learning the ABC song is going to help Tippi learn how to read. All learning the song does is tell one the order the letters go in, and without visual aid of the printed word, doesn't teach one to recognize which letter is which, much less how to form words out of their combinations. I just find it hard to believe that Tippi could make the leap of learning to read simply from memorizing the song.

Al uses some kind of rude terms in this episode. He refers to Tippi as being a member of the "mentally absent", chides him for acting like he has "a few screws loose", and in the rhyme he makes up for Tippi, calls him a "looney-tune". Couldn't even Al be a little more tactful and sensitive?

Al? Tactful and sensitive? These words do not
belong in the same sentence. :)

What a great episode. I have to say that Scott
Bakula had a great performance in this episode...I am so looking forward to seeing the
next episode...I haven't seen that one in 6 years...I think "The Leap Back" was one of
the first episodes I had ever seen,

Bakula and Stockwell were both nominated for Emmys for this episode. I think they deserved to win those! Both were incredible!

Yeah, I agree with Rene. Al is not tactful--ever listen to his comments whenever a remotely attractive female is in his line-of-sight? The lack of tact isn't limited to his libido either.

I wonder what made the nurse pay attention to Sam and give him the second shock treatment herself. She was against it originally, it could get her kicked out of her job, and she knows it could kill Sam. Yet she does it. She's had ten years of dealing with the mentally unstable. Is she picking up Al's vibes or what?

Al Tells Sam That Tippi will learn how to read and get a good job when he gets out, but he never mentions what happened to Sam beeterman the guy Sam leaped into.

The guy probably DIED from the second fatal-voltage-level electroshock treatment.

Did this lightining bolt actually come through that window and strike Sam and everybody else in the room or did it just strike close enough outside to cause the simo-leap? When watching the episode it looks like a bolt does come through the window but it doesn't break the glass. It would also kill everyone in the room.
