By SpottedKitty on Thursday, October 05, 2000 - 7:08 am:

If anyones desperate to see more SG1 Gamma Quadrant has (at the time of posting) all of season 1, most of season 2, all of season 3 and up to the current episode in season 4 in reasonably good quality 18-20Mb ASF files. :)

By Merat on Thursday, December 07, 2000 - 12:25 pm:

SpottedKitty, thanks for the website! Would you happen to know of any websites that have Babylon 5, SeaQuest, etc....? Thanks!

By SpottedKitty on Thursday, December 07, 2000 - 3:09 pm:

Your welcome :) ....and you could try www.supplex.com although I'm not sure hes doing stuff anymore, But I'm sure they'll be links.
Theres also Pauls Zone who has plenty of links.

Appart from that, Sorry.

By Merat on Thursday, December 07, 2000 - 8:18 pm:

Saw an episode of Seaquest on SciFi channel today... I NEED MORE!

By Merat on Thursday, December 07, 2000 - 9:14 pm:

Could Daniel be wearing contact lenses when he's not wearing his glasses? I know that I have contact lenses but I usually wear my glasses because they are easier to put on and take off.

By Callie Sullivan on Friday, December 08, 2000 - 2:49 am:

(just to prove that you don't end all conversations!) [qv the 'Janet Frasier' page]
(However, if this particular topic continues for long, I might move it across to the 'Daniel Jackson' board if you don't mind)

Daniel may well have contacts that he wears on some occasions, but we've often seen him start a mission wearing glasses, then either break them or have them removed, or have to take them off for some reason, and he seems to have no trouble seeing without them, so I do find myself wondering why he wears them so frequently if he doesn't really need them.

By SpottedKitty on Friday, December 08, 2000 - 3:33 pm:

Merat...The first few seasons of SeaQest are quite good...then it went down the pan IMHO. :)

By Merat on Thursday, December 14, 2000 - 9:32 pm:

Oh, I'm very bored, just sitting here at the Main Library Reference Desk, waiting for someone to come up and ask me a question, wishing I could download and watch an SG1 episode... Anyone here? Yes, SpottedKitty, SeaQuest was good until they brought in a very young crew, then got even worse when they killed off that crew and sent the ship 10 years forward in time.

By Merat on Thursday, December 14, 2000 - 10:50 pm:

I sometimes carry around my contact lenses with me, just in case. Actually, just the other day, my glasses broke and I put in my contacts and was able to finish my final exam without having to hold the paper an inch from my face.

By SpottedKitty on Thursday, December 21, 2000 - 2:00 am:

For those of you that are interested, episode 15 of Season4 is up on Gamma Quadrant.
Some interesting news from the same stable as well, apparently those of you who are lucky enough to have Sky in the UK will get to see the new Season4 episodes a week ahead of the US crowd. :)

By Merat on Tuesday, December 26, 2000 - 7:50 pm:

*Starts jumping up and down in joy*
Yes! A NEW SG1!!! I've been SG1 deprived lately, having been on the road with out my laptop :-)

By SpottedKitty on Wednesday, December 27, 2000 - 2:07 am:

*chuckles*...Someones happy at least.

For those of you who are in the UK another nice treat. Amanda Tapping, Don S Davis and Teryl Rothery have been interviewed by SFX. :)

Hope you all had a nice Chrissy

By Nice Chrissy on Thursday, December 28, 2000 - 1:58 am:

What kind of girl do you think I am?

By SpottedKitty on Tuesday, January 02, 2001 - 4:08 pm:

:) Do you really want me to answer that one? :)

By SpottedKitty on Wednesday, May 23, 2001 - 8:48 am:

Merat! You were looking for these I believe :)

Season 1

Vol 2

By Merat on Monday, May 28, 2001 - 6:20 am:

Yup, they FINALLY came out here on May 22nd. Bought them. REALLY enjoying them!

By SpottedKitty on Monday, May 28, 2001 - 2:02 pm:

In some ways its rather annoying. WE only have Season1 available on VHS. Is there a SGFA at work here? :p

By Merat on Tuesday, May 29, 2001 - 5:30 am:

Where are you at, SpottedKitty?

By Merat on Tuesday, May 29, 2001 - 5:31 am:

At least you had season 1 available!
On a similar note (C#), does anyone know when the Season 2 DVDs are comming out in the US?

By SpottedKitty on Tuesday, May 29, 2001 - 5:46 am:

Moi is in the UK. West coast of Scotland.

>At least you had season 1 available!

True. Little thing like that never stopped me complaining before though. If I did there wouldn't be much to complain about… ;)

By Merat on Tuesday, May 29, 2001 - 6:12 am:

I have a friend in Scandinavia (sp?) and she was able to buy parts of seasons 1-3 on DVD, which is apparently available in England.

By SpottedKitty on Tuesday, May 29, 2001 - 2:56 pm:

Yep. 1-3 Plus another two eps on the last season 2 DVD. However it ain't a nice boxset. :)

By Merat on Tuesday, May 29, 2001 - 8:32 pm:

True, true.... You know, they killed me on the special features part of the DVDs. They had clips from the other seasons sprinkled in there, looking all terrific in DVD quality. Now I REALLY want the other seasons on DVD! Also, during one of the special features, either Hammond or Carter's profile, I believe, they have a clip of Jack comming out of the gate and Hammond, Daniel, Sam, and maybe Teal'c are all in the glassed in room and Hammond says, "Who are you?!" Now, I've watched my poor quality episodes many times, and I don't remember this! Is it from the new season!?

By Merat on Friday, June 01, 2001 - 12:36 am:

Has anyone else seen the previews for Disney's Atlantis? It looks like the first half of the movie is the same as the first half of Stargate! Lets see, a discredited yet gifted linguist is approached by the government to help them translate a mysterious tablet. Nope, nevermind, I was wrong, NOTHING like Stargate.

*leaves a pool of dripped sarcasm*

I could maybe get over this, but the linguist character lookes almost EXACTLY like the movie Daniel!

By Lauren Mag on Friday, June 01, 2001 - 5:51 pm:

Did you see the way they write the A's in the title?? Looks vaugely familier....

By Merat on Saturday, June 02, 2001 - 9:31 am:

Yeah, they are the Earth Symbol without the sun overhead. *sigh* SOMEONE is gonna get sued if they keep this up. :)

By Lauren Mag on Tuesday, June 19, 2001 - 11:52 am:

Hey guess what, yesterday I actually saw Atlantis, and I really felt that whoever wrote it had to be doing this on purpose....

The main character is a linguist (like you said) who is considered crazy by all the other scientists for his ideas (that Atlantis exists). His grandfather was also an explorer/scientist type who was also called insane for believing the same thing. Both of the main character parents died when he was a kid. And remember the A's in the title? The a few of the charecters have jackets with that A on the side of their arm (!). And also the heroine of the movie is the girl with the blue hair who appears to be dead for a while (though she comes back) and guess what the main character decides to do? Stay with her. (Not that that plot line hasn't been used other times....)

It was actually a pretty good movie, but I spent most of it looking for things like stargate;)

By SpottedKitty on Friday, July 13, 2001 - 1:50 am:

A little news for those of us in the UK. http://www.play247.com has DVD Vol14 listed for a released date of 20/08/01 priced at £14.99. So at least the wait isn't going to be /too/ bad. For those of you without DVD players I can only imagine the first VHS tape will be released at the same time. :)

By Merat on Friday, July 13, 2001 - 5:24 am:

In Mike J. Nelson's new book he mentions that all the scifi today seems like warmed over Stargate. :-)

By Callie Sullivan on Monday, July 30, 2001 - 4:29 pm:

Confirmation that Season 4 begins release on 20 August in Britain both on video and DVD. Blackstar have episodes 1-4 scheduled for release then.

Merat - is that the Michael J Nelson - he of MST3K fame?

By Merat on Monday, July 30, 2001 - 7:42 pm:

Yes, Callie. Any news on season 2 on DVD in the U.S.?

By KAM on Tuesday, July 31, 2001 - 1:15 am:

Oh, noooooo! 8-o

Does that means that Callie will see some episodes of Stargate before I do?

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaa.....

;-)

By Callie on Tuesday, July 31, 2001 - 2:44 am:

Quite right too (smug grin).

It's certainly about time - it always seemed a bit weird for me to be moderating a site where I'm the last one to see the darned episodes! But Declan seems to have disappeared so I guess that leaves me in charge ...

(rubs hands with delight) Now to put my evil plans into action ...

By Merat on Tuesday, July 31, 2001 - 5:09 am:

I think the book is called, "The Big Book of Movie Mega-Cheese" by the way.

By A Furious Callie Sullivan on Thursday, August 09, 2001 - 6:35 am:

ARGGGGGHHH! NOOOOOOOO!! I knew it was too darned good to be true. A new SG-1 series being released in August? Not possible.

And it's true - it isn't possible. Blackstar have put back the release of Season 4 in Britain until the 24th September, five darned weeks later!!!!

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

(I don't know what the news is from play247.com, SK - the site was running so slow when I just tried it that I gave up.)

By SpottedKitty on Thursday, August 09, 2001 - 7:50 am:

Play247 has pushed it back a little further...not a great deal further though. 3rd of Sept for the DVD according to them. :)

By Merat on Sunday, August 19, 2001 - 3:19 pm:

Don't know if this has already been posted somewhere here, but SciFi channel has picked up SG1 for its 6th season. It will also start showing the old episodes.

By Triggins (Triggins) on Monday, August 20, 2001 - 6:44 am:

I just hope that Sci-Fi does not do to Stargate what they did to Sliders.

By Lauren Mag on Monday, August 27, 2001 - 8:49 am:

*crosses finger* me too.

But it does mean we get to see repeats from the first few season that are never shown anymore, which is a good thing.

By Callie on Wednesday, August 29, 2001 - 6:07 am:

Season 4 videos are out in Britain next week, according to Blackstar. With the way the dates have been shunted about, I'm not convinced, and won't be until the things are actually in my hands!

By Callie on Monday, September 03, 2001 - 6:19 am:

Oh me of little faith! The tapes of episodes 1-4 arrived this morning. I am so not happy about being at work today!

By SpottedKitty on Thursday, September 20, 2001 - 1:46 am:

Small note brought up by Callies posting on Wormhole X-Treme. The SG1 Archive has moved from Gama Quadrant to SG1 Archive

By Callie on Thursday, September 20, 2001 - 6:18 am:

Am I looking in the wrong place? When I click on Season 5 and go down to the episode title, all I can get is the preview.

By SpottedKitty on Thursday, September 20, 2001 - 7:01 am:

Just been to that site. The episodes have been pulled by command of the MPAA.

What are the opinions of others on this sorta thing?

Speaking for myself I'm caught in the middle. I know its illegal to do what the guy at the Archive did, yet for some people it's the only way to see some of the episodes either at all or at a decent pace.
I have no idea what it is like elsewhere outside the US but here in the UK if you do not have either Satellite or Cable TV then your on a hiding to nothing as the Terrestrial TV station no longer provide adequate coverage of the shows. The whole fiasco with Angel/Futurama on Channel 4 and Star Trek/Farscape on the BBC just goes to prove this. OK, so you may have the option to buy them on VHS or DVD but again the inane thinking behind the way these are released mean that a lot of people are one or two seasons behind what is actually going on. If anything, being able to download these episodes only /increases/ my interest in Stargate because it is then constantly in my mind rather than getting pushed to the back of it as I wait three months for a new DVD release by which time some other show which I like a lot better may of appeared.

OK, so their answer would probably amount to "Buy Satellite or Cable then" but the point there is that not everyone can afford that, yet the Studios also want to reach the widest audience possible which in a perfect world would be 100% coverage. Yet, you know they will never do something like what the guy at the Archive did because "The internet is a haven for piracy". It's a haven for piracy because they just can't seem to get over this concept off being in complete control and only feeding out the shows as and when they feel like it.

This would have been different if the guy had been charging for the episodes but bear in he probably wasn't making any money out of this and infact was probably /loosing/ money because as some of you probably know using banner ads to gather revenue is a highly hit-and-miss affair. Yet this is how he gets treated for promoting the show to a lot of people who probably would never of had the chance to see Stargate and who then in turn went out and spent money on fan items.

Anyone care to play Devils Advocate?

By Spottedkitty on Thursday, September 20, 2001 - 7:05 am:

Sorry...I'll just add this, probably isn't relevent for in here but its along the same subject as my rant above:

Case in point -
Downloading the episodes was the only way I got to see Transformers Beast Wars and Beast Machines in the UK. If it had not been for the ability to do that I would never of bought all the VHS taps and now the DVDs. So because of one download site Hasbro (or whoever gets the most money from vid sales) now has an extra few hundred pounds it would never of had. Multiply that by a few hundred fans and what do you get?...

By Merat on Friday, September 21, 2001 - 5:47 am:

I've downloaded all the videos that SG1Archive had, and I still bought the season 1 DVD....

By Phillip Culley (Pculley) on Tuesday, September 25, 2001 - 11:34 am:

On volume 4.3 (in the UK), they've managed to mix up the episode details for 'Divide and Conquer' and 'Window of Opportunity'.

By Callie on Thursday, September 27, 2001 - 6:36 am:

And they get the descriptions wrong too! For the Window of Opportunity description - which ought to be for Divide and Conquer - it begins something like, "When members of SG-1 go berserk ..." Since when have Graham and Astor been on SG-1?!

By SpottedKitty on Thursday, September 27, 2001 - 2:08 pm:

They also got these two mixed up on the DVD as well. Just goes to show ye, the person doing the coveres obviously ain't a fan. :) Still..you would of though /someone/ would of noticed.

By K. E. R. on Sunday, October 28, 2001 - 2:11 pm:

Has anyone noticed the new Star Trek books series called Gateways? From the cover:

"Missing for two hundred millennia, the legendary Iconians have returned, bringing with them the secret of interdimensional teleportation across vast interstellar distances. Awakened once more, their ancient Gateways are rewriting the map of the galaxy, .... "

Is it my imagination or does this sound very familiar?

By Merat on Monday, October 29, 2001 - 5:28 am:

Yeah, but the stories inside are different :)

By Merat on Monday, October 29, 2001 - 5:29 am:

By the way, Fox News did a special on NORAD the other day, showing us the inside of Cheyanne Mountain! No mention of the SGC though :(

By Art Vandelay on Monday, October 29, 2001 - 9:11 am:

That's because it's classified.
