Now it looks like there will be a second spinoff:

By Merat on Thursday, June 20, 2002 - 10:00 pm:

Wow!!!! This just in from www.imdb.com

Stargate: Infinity" (2002)
[TV-Series]

By Merat on Thursday, June 20, 2002 - 10:01 pm:

The first image from the upcoming Stargate animated spin-off series is here! Stargate Infinity tells the story of a team of teenage academy trainees, led through the gate by veteran Gus Bonner (presumably, center). The team must help an alien named Draga (possibly the character on the far right) return to her home planet, though she is being pursued by a sinister alien race, and bounty hunters from Earth

ANIMATED?!?!?

By Merat on Thursday, June 20, 2002 - 10:03 pm:

Set 20-30 years after SG-1. Hoo-boy.

Infinity starts Saturday, September 14 on Fox! It's scheduled to air from 8:00 to 8:30 a.m. (Eastern/Pacific) as part of Fox's Saturday morning "Fox Box" line-up.

By Callie on Friday, June 21, 2002 - 5:28 am:

The picture and details are also available at Gateworld: http://www.gateworld.net/news/spinoffnews.html#newsitem1024374633,11439,

I just can't get excited about animation, and certainly not this lot who look nothing like people from the SGC!

By Merat on Friday, June 21, 2002 - 11:07 am:

Kind of strange that we haven't heard anything about this from the actors or main production staff before now.... Hiding in shame, maybe?

By Merat on Sunday, July 07, 2002 - 7:41 pm:

Does the Infinity alien Draga look like the alien from The Fifth Man to anyone else?

By Merat on Wednesday, July 24, 2002 - 2:54 am:

At least one episode (probably the premier) of Infinity will be named "Museum" and be written by Brooks Wachtel, according to www.imdb.com. Probably best known for having written the second season Beast Machines episode "Sparkwar Part One: The Strike."

By Merat on Wednesday, July 24, 2002 - 7:37 am:

Is anyone else concerned over the Infinity characters? We have Ec'co (not the dolphin) who is HALF HUMAN. No no no, StarGate, don't go to the Trek idea of genetics... PLEASE! And an empath. Didn't anyone learn from SeaQuest?

By Callie on Thursday, July 25, 2002 - 3:50 am:

I see that this series is aimed at boys aged 6 to 12. There can’t be that many boys of that age who also watch SG-1, so I imagine that continuity between the two series will be fairly non-existent. So, do we nitpick the living daylights out of Infinity when it clashes with SG-1 or not?!

By KAM whos not sure if he´ll be watching it or not, but if he does he´ll probably nitpick it on Thursday, July 25, 2002 - 4:33 am:

Of course.

If they didn't want us to compare it with SG-1 then they shouldn't have put Stargate in the title.

Hmph!

;-)

By Keith Alan Morgan (Kmorgan) on Sunday, September 15, 2002 - 6:44 am:

Well, saw the first episode. I won't be making any great effort to watch any more.

Awful theme song. Yuck!

Where did the aliens get staff wepons? Shouldn't they have weapons of their own?

They're on the alien world and Bonner dials in the address of a world he knows. Um, what about that idea that the address for planets changes depending on what planet you are dialing from? (Then again SG-1 only mentioned this a few times and usually ignored it, so why hold the cartoon to a higher standard?)

By Lee Jamilkowski (Ljamilkowski) on Saturday, September 21, 2002 - 1:19 pm:

The Stargate also only have seven chevrons in Infinity.

THe second episode, Double Duty, showed Draga (the supposed Ancient) to have similar powers to the supposed Ancient from the SG-1 episode Frozen. Although, the two supposed Ancients look virtually nothing alike.

By mei on Saturday, November 23, 2002 - 6:18 pm:

I just saw this - it's horrible! Starting with what seems to be my regular complaint theses days - the animation is horrendous!! I know they have to work in a hurry, but they could do better than this. The story didn't grab me, either, starting with the fact that I didn't recognize anyone. If they want people to feel the connection with Stargate, it'd be nice if they'd kept someone familiar.
I also found a couple of nits. The chick tries to start the Stargate by hitting the DHD, but she only manages to hit it once. And yet, the gate immediately starts up and catches all the chevrons. I guess the gate is now psychic.
The other nit is particularly bad for an animated show. They show the chevrons engaging - except that one of them doesn't actually fasten on a specific icon. This would almost be acceptable on a live-action show, where it could happen and not get caught. But animation?!? Where they had to draw it?!?
I'm not intending to watch again. It comes on at 7.30 IN THE MORNING on Saturday. Sleep sounds a lot better to me, quite frankly.

By Keith the Convert on Monday, January 20, 2003 - 9:47 am:

I suffered, I mean saw, an episode for the first time this weekend.

Two words automatically sprung to mind, once the queasy feeling instilled into me by the insipid theme tune, were cheap and nasty!

This is just really bad and terribly simplistic. Bad, bad, bad.

I have taped this for Callie, so that I am not the only one who is scarred with this nonsense!

By Callie on Monday, January 20, 2003 - 2:29 pm:

Yes, my so-called and soon to be ex-friend Keith the Convert insisted on taping an episode for me to see. HE WILL PAY for this abuse of our friendship – just as soon as he’s finished taping episodes of SG-1 for me! The episode was “Mentor” and it was seriously dire. It looks really cheap and nasty; I couldn’t make out a word of the lyrics in the opening titles; the opening titles, for some bizarre reason, have the sound of a zat gun firing as chevrons in the Stargate engage; the background music is really odd and often inappropriate to the mood or simply totally unnecessary. KAM mentioned above that aliens had staff weapons in the pilot episode; they had them here too – can the sound effects people only produce so many noises?! And at the end of this episode the chevrons engaged in the wrong order, the chevrons didn’t actually move in and out as they engaged, and the Gate didn’t whoosh as it opened. And as mei mentioned above, one touch on the DHD engages the entire dialling sequence.

Keith, dear, kindly spare me from any further exposure to this insult to the Stargate universe!

By Keith the Convert on Tuesday, January 21, 2003 - 7:43 am:

That's what I get for getting up early on a Saturday morning, complete with hangover, to tape this piece of modern storytelling!

Such gratitude!

Callie, if you ever sense me watching it again - despatch the Death Gliders immediately!! I will deserve it!

Oh well, I will be sticking to Brian Dowling on his bucking bronco on a Saturday morning now!

By Callie on Wednesday, January 22, 2003 - 2:22 am:

Hmm, Brian Dowling or the corny jokes of Infinity ...

Yes, now I understand why I never drag myself out of bed until after lunchtime!

By Bertie Wooster on Wednesday, January 22, 2003 - 5:11 am:

You mean there are hours of the day before lunchtime?

By Callie on Wednesday, January 22, 2003 - 6:28 am:

I guess there must be (my mum told me), but as they contain hideous things like Stargate: Infinity, they're clearly nasty dangerous things and best avoided!

By Douglas Nicol on Wednesday, September 17, 2003 - 3:30 pm:

Is it REALLY that bad?

By Robert Emilfarb on Wednesday, September 17, 2003 - 4:48 pm:

I didn't think it was THAT bad. The episode I saw anyway. No worse than a lot of cartoons out there. The one that I saw did, however, rip the plot off of an early episode of SG-1. The one where Sam's old boyfriend (I think his name was Jonas too, just like Daniel's replacement) becomes the ruler of some primitive planet. Shades of the old Twilight Zone with Claude Akins (and his butt) and some unknown guy. "I'm the god, I'm the god!!!!"

By KAM on Thursday, September 18, 2003 - 4:18 am:

Yes, Douglas, it is.

Although Robert is right too.

If it had been just another cartoon with no connection to the Stargate universe, it probably would be considered another lamo action/adventure sci-fi cartoon, but because of the Stargate connection it becomes much worse.

Just like Voyager. If Voyager wasn't connected to Star Trek it would be just another bad sci-fi show, but because they tried to pretend it was Star Trek it became worse.

By Callie on Monday, September 29, 2003 - 7:03 am:

Well someone must be watching it, cos they're just about to release four episodes on DVD, according to Gateworld!

Me, I won't be rushing out to buy myself a DVD player ...

By Merat on Monday, February 02, 2004 - 7:14 pm:

Heh, for $10. That says something about SG:I.

By KAM on Monday, November 01, 2004 - 2:21 am:

Having just watched Enemy Mine (SG1) I realized a Missed Opportunity of this show. Since it was set in the future one member of the team could have been an Unas.

By Merat on Sunday, January 09, 2005 - 4:19 pm:

They made 26 episodes..... How many aired? 7? 8?

Oh, one interesting thing is that the voice of Darga was Kathleen Barr, who did the voice of Dot Matrix on ReBoot.

By windburn on Monday, November 14, 2005 - 6:39 pm:

Don't know if anyone knows but this show is off the air now.
At least it is where I live, Arizona.

By Smart Alec on Monday, November 14, 2005 - 9:09 pm:

So it's safe to watch Saturday morning cartoons again?

By Mr Mike on Monday, October 01, 2007 - 5:53 pm:

What a missed opportunity for the SG franchise. When I first heard about SGI, I wrongly assumed that because of the (mostly) good writing and characterization of SG1 that this show would be a sweeping animated saga ala Disney's Gargoyles. Wow. My expectations were truly stomped and ground into dust with this one. :-(

By Merat on Sunday, October 21, 2007 - 5:10 pm:

I just watched the first episode of this... this... THING. Aside from using it to addict my young cousin to Stargate, I can think of no real use for this, I guess you'd call it, "show." Then again, he may have better taste than this. After all, he loves Mr. Bean. That's discernment, that is.

By Callie on Monday, October 22, 2007 - 2:58 am:

*gives Merat a comforting hug*

By Merat on Monday, October 22, 2007 - 11:54 am:

It..it was just so BAD, Callie!

By Callie on Tuesday, October 23, 2007 - 2:53 am:

(soothingly) I know, Merat, I know. There, there. (pats his back gently and starts to hum a lullaby)

By Merat on Tuesday, October 23, 2007 - 10:29 am:

And yet.. and yet... I want to watch the next one... JUST BECAUSE IT IS STARGATE! Good lord, I'm an addict.

By Callie on Wednesday, October 24, 2007 - 1:53 am:

(releases Merat and backs away slowly)

No-one should be enough of a Stargate addict to want to watch "Infinity". No-one, do you hear me?!

By Charles Cabe (Ccabe) on Saturday, June 30, 2012 - 6:17 pm:

I actually liked Infinity. (But then again I actually liked a few episodes of Star Trek the Animated Series.)

By Keith Alan Morgan (Kmorgan) on Sunday, July 01, 2012 - 12:40 am:

Burn the heretic!

*quickly sets up a stand selling torches & pitchforks*

;-)

By ScottN (Scottn) on Sunday, July 01, 2012 - 12:42 am:

I think that's CCabe's evil twin posting that.

By Callie (Csullivan) on Tuesday, July 03, 2012 - 4:19 am:

Either Charles has been spammed by a very spiteful troll, or I need to get over to Keith's stand very promptly ...
