“SG-1 Archive” website raided

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Stargate - SG-1, Atlantis, etc: The Gate Room (aka the Stargate Sink) [general topics + SG-1 topics]: “SG-1 Archive” website raided

This is fairly old news now but I only found out about it today: the owner of the fansite SG1 Archive was raided by the FBI and is now being prosecuted by the MPAA, perhaps on the instruction of MGM, for having had downloads of episodes, despite the fact that when he was served a “Cease and Desist” order by the MPAA he immediately deleted all downloads. The full horrific story can be read here, and after that if you click on Read More underneath the “PayPal Donate” icon you’ll find more detailed description of the FBI raid that Adam (known as “Arcady” on the forum) and his fiancée Margaret suffered as described by Margaret herself (known as “HurricaneMB”), and the subsequent cavalier treatment of their equipment by the FBI (Warning – the language used by supporters of the site can be VERY strong at times).

I don’t want this to turn into a political discussion – there are other sites on Nitcentral for such things – but the one thing that particularly appalled me was the fact that apparently (I stress the word apparently) the FBI used The Patriot Act – introduced for the purpose of checking on potential terrorists – for checking up on Adam and Margaret.

What I don’t understand is why a site that took down its downloads a good couple of years ago now is being prosecuted when there’s at least one more site out there that still has downloads right now! (Not that I’m suggesting that they should be – they’re my only hope of getting Season 8 of SG-1 and Season 1 of Atlantis any time soon!)

If you do visit the first site I mentioned, i.e. the one that gives the main details, do go to the bottom of the page and click on the “Buy T-Shirt” icon. Doing so doesn’t commit you to buying one, but if you’re anything like me you’ll crack up when you see what’s printed on it!

It was fairly clear to me that the Patriot Act would be abused, sooner or later, by law enforcement agencies in search of non-"terrorist" suspects.

It seems that Anton Piller's been a
very,very busy man,then...
(This type of "Fishing Expidition", is so called in the U.K, after the person the order was first used on, & I have the sneaking suspicion that the MPAA,were the FBI's "Advisers" on this...)
