D@MN!!!! I missed it!!!! Family things. Any idea if they'll rebroadcast?

Sorry, Scott, not a clue (I’m a British person, you know!). Can any Americans help? (In the meantime, hope the transcript helps a bit!)

In comparison to Season 7’s “The Lowdown”, I felt this had some rather poor moments. Several of the clips from episodes of SG-1 were totally out of context and I couldn’t see why they’d been put in, as they didn’t relate at all to the preceding or following moments.

I also felt that the actors who are going to be in Atlantis sometimes didn’t do themselves any favours. This may have been the fault of the director of the programme putting in inappropriate moments – the scene where Torri Higginson admits that she hasn’t got a clue what Atlantis is about or what the team’s mission is comes particularly to mind. Joe Flanigan and Rainbow Francks both seemed a little too laid-back and blasé about their roles for my liking. David Hewlett tried too hard to be funny – especially in the extended scene in the Atlantis control room – and rather made himself look like an idiot, but maybe he was trying to be McKay rather than David Hewlett. Unfortunately, for me at least, that didn’t come across well enough. And Rachel Luttrell was a bit too wide-eyed and “it’s all wonderful”. I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt, as I don’t know enough about them to know whether this is their first major role on TV and so they might not be wise to the way they perhaps ought to perform in front of a documentary team, but I came away from the show not being as excited about Atlantis as I felt I ought to be.

I did, however, adore Michael Shanks’ description of Chris Judge, now that he has hair, as “Chia Teal’c”!

Is this the same thing that's on the Lost City DVD, or are these different Behind the Scenes/Atlantis previews?

I only just saw this, and don't want any major spoilers for Atlantis, but...I note that they're trying to give the show a more international feel. Fine. I also note that they're indicating nationalities with little flag badges on people's sleeves. Also fine. When watching the various main characters and extras in the clips on the Lowdown, I noted that these flags included the Stars & Stripes, the Canadian maple leaf, the German tricolour, and...the Scottish flag. The SCOTTISH flag?!! (As opposed to the Union Jack). How on Earth does that happen?

By Phillip Culley (Pculley) on Sunday, October 03, 2004 - 6:04 pm:

The odd thing, is that while one person wears a Scottish flag, I'm sure I've seen people wearing Union Jacks as well....

Perhap's he's one of those Scottish Nationalists :)

By Callie on Monday, October 04, 2004 - 2:28 am:

Scots do tend to be far more independent than the English, so English people would tend to automatically wear the Union flag while Scots would be more likely to want the flag of St Andrew. The Welsh would also be more likely to want their own flag. If, however, an Englishman asked for the St George flag rather than the Union flag, he’d probably be accused of being too ‘English-centric’.

I’ve not yet read anywhere whether Paul McGillion was given the choice of a Union flag or a Scottish flag, or whether he just turned up for work and found that his jacket had the latter on it.

By Thande on Monday, October 04, 2004 - 10:47 am:

I'm not saying they wouldn't want to wear the Scottish flag, I'm just saying that it seems unbelievable that any military or quasi-government agency would let them wear it (not to be disrespectful to the Scots - after all, I am half Scottish - but if you let them wear the Scottish flag, then you'd end up with Americans wearing state flags etc. etc.) Personally I am in favour of revising the Union Jack so that it incorporates the Welsh flag, anyway, so all four countries are properly represented.
