Hi. This was my idea. In case anyone asks, I'll be posting ALL the SG-1 and Atlantis titles (as of now) that are the same as Star Trek titles, even if the Star Trek ones came later.
SG-1 Season 1:
"The Enemy Within" (TOS)
"Bloodlines" (TNG)
"Singularity" (ENT)
"Tin Man" (TNG)
SG-1 Season 2:
"Message in a Bottle" (VOY)
"Family" (TNG)
"A Matter of Time" (TNG)
SG-1 Season 3:
"Legacy" (TNG)
"Shades of Grey" (TNG)
"New Ground" (TNG)
"Nemesis" (VOY)
SG-1 Season 4:
None that I recognise.
SG-1 Season 5:
"Threshold" (VOY)
"Proving Ground" (ENT)
"Meridian" (DS9)
SG-1 Season 6:
"Redemption" (TNG - and both were two-parters)
"Descent" (TNG)
"Allegiance" (TNG)
"Unnatural Selection" (TNG)
"Paradise Lost" (DS9)
"Metamorphosis" (TOS)
"Forsaken" (DS9...well, okay, the DS9 episode is 'The Forsaken)
"The Changeling" (TOS)
"Homecoming" (DS9, but again the DS9 version is 'The')
"Birthright" (TNG)
"Evolution" (TNG)
"Chimera" (DS9)
"Resurrection" (DS9)
SG-1 Season 8:
"Zero Hour" (ENT)
"Covenant" (DS9)
"Endgame" (VOY)
"Reckoning" (DS9, but 'The')
Atlantis Season 1:
"Suspicion"...TNG had 'Suspicions, but I'm not counting that one.
"Home" (ENT)
"Sanctuary" (DS9)
"The Gift" (VOY)
"The Siege" (DS9 - both versions are two-parters).
So...in answer to Brian Webber's original question...
The number of Stargate episodes which share exactly the same name as Trek episodes is: 32 (counting two-parters as one name)
The number of episodes which share similar names (with or without 'The' and in the plural) is: 35.
Some of these (four, by my estimate) actually aired before the corresponding Star Trek episodes. The number which didn't, i.e. the number which conceivably could have been copied or inspired by Star Trek episodes is: 31.
Any questions?
Well, that killed THAT board quickly, didn't it?
This happens in TV all the time. I once read somewhere that something like 20 different TV shows used "The Gift" as an ep title at some point.
Yeah, I don't think you could say that any of the Stargate titles aren't something that could have been come up with independently.
However, when I see Stargate episodes entitled "For the World is Hollow and I have Touched the Sky", "Darmok" and especially "The Siege of AR-558" , then I'll get suspicious.
Could The Lost City have been called The City On The Edge Of Forever? ;-)
So which ones aired before Star Trek?
By my reckoning,
"Singularity" (ENT)
"Proving Ground" (ENT)
"Zero Hour" (ENT)
"Home" (ENT)
Sorry, I just realised that I included Season 7 with Season 6. The 7 same-names begin with "Birthright".
Obvious statistics:
Most same-names season: 6
Least same-names season: 4
Found myself thinking, "What if the Stargate writers were as bad as the Friends writers at titles?"
Children Of The Gods would be The One Where They Meet Teal'c
Within the Serpent’s Grasp would be The One Where They Get Stuck On Apophis' Ship
In the Line of Duty would be The One Where Sam Gets Glowy Eyes
Serpent's Song = The One Where Apophis Dies
Enemies = The One Where Apophis Dies. Again.
Mea maxima culpa! I forgot there's a DS9 episode called Rules of Engagement. That brings the total number of SG/ST titles to 36.
So what season does that go to?
Season 3, IIRC.
It’s also kind of unfortunate that Enterprise has had an episode called Daedalus just around the same time as Atlantis gets its first mention of Earth’s new battle cruiser, the Daedalus.
Who cares? Enterprise is dead now.
SG-1 has just had a two parter called 'Reckoning' and DS9 had "The Reckoning", so I guess that counts as another 2.
