The next part of season 1 will be back on Space channel in Canada tomorrow (Friday)night. I saw a preview of it tonight while watching an old episode of SG-1.

Rush is back. I suspected when that alien ship showed up that he would be on it. Nice of him not to expose what Young did to the whole ship (ditching him on that planet and leaving him for dead). Of course, now he and Camille are whispering about Young. Are they planning a mutiny? Don't the military people have all the guns? Or will some of them join the other side?

How many Chloe haters cheered when the aliens took her? Of course, I knew she was coming back. I'm sure everyone did. I don't think Chloe is going anywhere soon.

Why do those aliens want Destiny? The ship is thousands of years old.

Once again no scenes on Earth. Yay!

Where do we go from here.

Considering that this was originally intended to be the mid-season final episode, it didn’t have much of a cliffhanger ending, did it? Justice was a way better mid-season finale.

The very first scene of the episode had me crying foul. There’s no way that battery-operated razors would be in the emergency kit that was brought from Icarus. Surely there would only be non-electric razors in the emergency packs in case any Stargate evacuation from Icarus were to take the crew to a planet where they couldn’t then immediately gate to Earth and were stuck there long enough that the men needed to shave.

Young has got a bloody nerve telling Camille that she should have the guts to come right out and accuse him. This from a man who didn’t have the guts to grant Rush a quick death.

The way that T.J. bounced out of the room following James after she had embarrassed herself with Caine was really cute.

The first sight of the alien was a real “Woo! Season premiere with lots of budget!” moment.

However, why do CGI aliens always look identical and wear identical clothing? Why don’t they all look different to each other and wear individual clothing? I know that it would be a nightmare budget-wise for the CGI people, but it’d be so much more realistic.

Also, Young looks down at himself before he sees the other alien, but apparently completely fails to notice that the body he is inhabiting is somewhat less than human-looking.

Yay, Riley gets a mention!

When the alien ship demands Destiny’s surrender, Young radios that everyone should report to their designated area. The next shot we see is of several people on the Observation Deck. Like I’ve said in a previous episode, I can’t imagine that that’s a safe place to be with such an enormous window at the front, especially when they’re being fired upon. Did those people not get the radio transmission or did they just disregard the order?
For that matter, why did Young send the order by radio? I thought – from one of the Kinosodes – that they have shipwide comms now.

Eli saying to Young, “You should have thought of that before you got rid of Rush,” made me cheer for him.

And the soaraway winner of the Too Stupid To Live Award is Miss Chloe Armstrong who twice proves how brainless she is, first by standing under the hole bored by the aliens and gawping upwards at the pretty light; and then when Rush bores a hole into Destiny and she just jumps down without calling down to anyone who might be nearby and holding a gun. If only Greer were a bit more trigger happy, we could have got rid of her once and for all. Alternatively, Chloe could have burnt her feet off by landing barefoot on top of a piece of metal that was red hot a moment ago.

Why did the transfer go into the alien? Was it ever explained? And more to the point, why didn’t the alien tell all his mates what happened so that everyone was watching out to see if he or any of their colleagues acted strangely again? Instead, the alien who spoke to Young-in-alien-body and didn’t get a response just made a disparaging sound that – to my ears at least – sounded exactly like a snarky comment of, “Idiot,” before turning away.

I suppose I have to give kudos to Young for actually rescuing Rush rather than leaving him in the tank.

When Young smashes Rush out of the tank and then approaches him, obviously Rush is terrified of what he thinks is one of the aliens. I immediately thought that, if that had been me in the alien body, I would have written my name in the air to show Rush who I was. Why didn’t Young – who is, after all (insert hollow laugh here), supposed to be one of Stargate Command’s best – think of doing that?

Poor directing/repeat filming of the same scene: Young tells Scott not to engage the fighters because Chloe “may be on board one of those ships.” When Rush sees and hears the flashback from Young’s mind, Young says, “may be aboard one of those ships.”

I liked the bit where it looked like Young would transfer back into the alien just in time for Rush to strangle him to death. I’m not sure how I feel about Rush killing the alien too soon for that to happen!

And say what you like about Rush being a bad guy (which he is), he gets another million Brownie points for going in search of Chloe after seeing her in the alien’s mind, instead of just legging it for the nearest fighter bay.

Both Nick and Chloe do a fair bit of dancing around on broken glass and yet miraculously never get a single piece embedded in their bare feet.

Once again Scott shows his total incompetence by being totally wrapped up in Chloe as another person comes plummeting through the ceiling. He has no right to assume that Greer can cope alone with the new arrival, and no idea whether the new arrival is friend or foe.

Just how many sets of clothing did Chloe manage oh-so-conveniently to bring with her through the Stargate from Icarus? She has now lost an outfit on board the alien ship but still has more back on Destiny.

It seems strange that while Rush is telling his story in the Mess, there are other crew members wandering around the room or even leaving it rather than there being a huge crowd around the table all listening to his tale. I know a lot of people don’t like him, but he’s had quite an adventure and you’d think that everyone would want to know what happened.

I checked the footage closely, and the fighters in this episode look very similar to the ship that lifted off from Destiny’s hull in Air Part 3. Is that what Rush meant by “What they really want is Destiny. Probably only care about us because we recently came aboard.” Did he mean that they’ve been following Destiny for some time but haven’t been able to get inside her or activate her controls?

For anyone wishing to know, the song over the end montage was “Now Comes the Night” by Rob Thomas and the full song can be heard here.

What is it about Destiny that is gradually turning all of her inhabitants into cold-blooded killers?! First Young, and now Camille is apparently ready to go to any lengths to get rid of Young! Is there something in the water supply or the not-quite-tomatoes?

The episode was so dark I had difficulty seeing a lot. I missed the part about the aliens demanding Destiny's surrender and thought that the Destiny fired its weapons first - so much for 'we come in peace'. In fact it was so dark I never really got a good look at the alien vessel.

I loved Eli's comment about getting rid of Rush. That was the best line of the episode.

I was totally shocked to see Rush aboard the alien vessel. I wondered if he thought he was strangling Young when he killed the alien.

I wondered about the razors too. The battery-operated part did not register; I just wondered about razors in general.

That whole scene with Rush boring the hole into the ship - or was it the shuttle? - confused me. If it was the shuttle, how did he know it was there? and if Destiny, how did he get there? Did he somehow manage to steal one of the alien's shuttles, fly it back to Destiny and then somehow conveniently manage to bore the hole just in front of Scott and Greer, who should have been at the alien ship anyway. And he should have gone first, before Chloe, to make sure it was safe.

I really hope the snafu with the stones means they will not be so anxious to use them in future.

I wonder if those aliens were on board Destiny when Rush and Co. arrived and decided to vacate when the humans started moving around the ship.

Rush was boring into Destiny, Beth. When Young and the alien transferred back into their own bodies, Rush started seeing images from the alien's mind which (a) showed him that the alien was back in its own head and (b) gave him images of the alien ship. From them, he learned that Chloe was aboard, then found out where the nearest fighter bay was and how to fly a fighter and drill a hole in Destiny. As for Scott and Greer, they had seen the fighter approaching Destiny while all the others were retreating, so they left the shuttle and headed to where it looked like the fighter was going to land, which is why they were nearby when it started boring.

And he should have gone first, before Chloe, to make sure it was safe.
Don't be silly - this is Rush we're talking about! I wouldn't be surprised to learn that he shoved her through the hole first, but that she's forgiven him because he saved her from the aliens!

Callie - Why did the transfer go into the alien?
I thought it had something to do with the telepathic gizmos the aliens had. If the stones work on the same frequency...

But I don't think any explanation was ever actually given.

However, why do CGI aliens always look identical and wear identical clothing?
Because then the computer artists would have to draw different faces & clothing. ;-)
I know very little about 3-D programs*, you'd think one could just go in and tweek the base images to create similar, but different figures, but apparently it's not that easy. *shrug*

* Daz-3D was a complete failure for me & I'm trying to learn Amapi, but it just isn't as easy as the instructions claim. People who use Poser start talking about meshes & nurbs & my eyes glaze over...

If Chloe had been blown away, I imagine a lot of people would have cheered. It seems Chloe is the Adric of this show, despised by the audience.

It was only when I saw this episode on the TV rather than on the computer that I noticed that, when the alien in Young's body attacks Scott and then Greer is pinning him down, Caine snatches the stone off the box but does so by taking hold of it with a piece of cloth rather than allowing his fingers to touch it. That makes perfect sense, but it's the sort of thing that might well have been forgotten by the writers or the director, so well done to whoever remembered.
