So did Rush know all along that Destiny was going to be okay, or did he just suspect? If he knew, why didn't he tell everyone, it would have saved them a LOT of trouble (of course, it would have made the episode real short). If Rush only suspected, I can't blame him for keeping silent. He could have been wrong.

So once again they're off and running.

Is there going to be a Chloe/Eli/Scott love triangle? This episode strongly seemed to hint that was coming.

I hope when some of the passenger are having sex, they're using protection of some kind. The last thing this lot needs right now is a baby in the mix.

I still wonder if mutiny is a problem they may have to face someday. After all, when times get desparate, so do a lot of people. Granted the military lot might stay loyal, but what about the civilians?

I do not think Rush knew. I think he did not care whether he lived or not and that is why he took himself out of the lottery.

I liked this episode better than the previous ones. I also liked Rush a little better as well.

I do not think much of Scott though.

I spent large parts of this episode in tears, mostly because of the amazing music but also because of the superb CGI and the way that the characters’ anguish and fears were portrayed. Kudos to both Brad Wright, the writer, and Peter deLuise, the director – and mostly to the awesome Joel Goldsmith, the composer. From the moment the lights came on in Young’s quarters, I was weeping uncontrollably for the next several minutes mainly because of the music and, while checking the transcript against the soundtrack, had to keep stopping to blink my eyes clear so that I could read!

Eli’s and Scott’s sunburns looked better (as in more burned) this week than they did in the previous episode!

Greer’s Kino message was awesome and really gave a great perspective into his character, as did his later conversation with Young. I like that character even more now.

With only a few hours until they have to leave, shouldn’t Scott be spending every minute acclimatising himself to the shuttle rather than popping off for yet another quick shag?

Why weren’t those who knew about them clamouring to use the communication stones so that they could say their last farewells to their loved ones?

Chloe says she has felt close to Scott “in these past few days”. Later, Rush calls Scott and Greer “yesterday’s heroes”, confirming that the desert planet excursion was only a day ago. As far as I can work out, she arrived on Icarus no more than two or three days ago but there was no indication that she had any particular conversations with Scott until after the evacuation. So this sudden relationship between the two of them seems to come purely from their conversations after her father’s death and after he got back from the desert.

I’m kind of surprised that someone as scientific as Rush would have referred to the three planets as “the first”, “the second” and “the third” when the third one was in between the other two in relation to distance from the sun. Even though he was explaining things to a non-scientist, I still would expect him to refer to them in their correct order.

I’m surprised there weren’t more objections to the method in which the lottery was conducted, and I’m also surprised that Young didn’t think it through more carefully, especially after Rush warned him that people would think that he had fixed it. He should have used smaller pieces of paper and shaken up the case more thoroughly, because any sheet of paper that was on the top when he closed the lid was likely to still be on top when he re-opened the case.

I know everybody left on Destiny was going to die in a few hours, but you’d have thought that someone would have been human enough to check on Spencer instead of everyone just walking past his unconscious body and leaving him there.

Has Scott even flown the shuttle yet on a test flight? It seems that he hadn’t, but considering how bashed up Destiny is, I would have thought that somebody would have at least found out whether the thing could lift off and be steered.

The only time I found the music annoying was, when Young was recording his Kino message, he said, “Hi, Emily,” and sad piano music promptly started. That was a bit too much, I thought.

There was some strange editing when Spencer regained consciousness. As he looked around, the camera focused for so long on the Stargate that I thought that Spencer was going to start trying to dial it.

I don’t know whether this was intentional or I’m putting too much of my own interpretation here, but I thought it was interesting that Greer undressed because he wanted to die the same way he was born, and yet left his dog tags on, as if the soldier in him always outweighed his own wishes.

Seeing Rush’s iPhone and speakers had me scrambling for the appropriate scene in Air part 1 and I’m pleased to report that yes, he was carrying a small holdall when he left Icarus base through the Stargate, so he could indeed have brought them with him.

Has Camile memorised everybody’s birthday, or was she lurking around the corner when Riley made his Kino recording?

I love the way that Franklin reprises his role as stater of the bleedin’ obvious in this episode!

Just how fast does that shuttle go if it can make it all the way around the sun and be close to the planet on the other side by the time Destiny has done its firewalk? Additionally, when we see Chloe and Eli in the Observation Deck watching the shuttle approaching Destiny, we can’t even see the planet behind it.

When Scott realised that the shuttle couldn’t catch up with Destiny, I was convinced that the answer would be that there was a Gate on the planet and they’d use that to get back to the ship. It didn’t initially dawn on me that the writers wouldn’t want to lose the shuttle this early in the series, and that the shuttle isn’t a Puddle Jumper and wouldn’t be able to fit through the Gate.
But then, of course, I later realised that you can’t dial from one Gate to another in the same solar system anyway.

Eli and Chloe have amazing faith that the Observation Deck’s window will hold if the shuttle smashes into it as it tries to land. Me, I’d have been long gone from the room!

It was interesting to see the way Rush cringed when Young reached out to pat him in congratulation. Either it was just surprise at the unexpected gesture, or will we learn that he was beaten by a parent when he was young?

I don’t see how Rush could have known in advance that Destiny would be OK. He might have suspected or even just hoped, but he was suffering from three kinds of withdrawal when he told the others that Destiny was knackered and they were all going to die, and I don’t see how he could have been rational enough to hide the truth from everyone else. In fact, if anything, he kept his hopes and/or suspicions from everybody else to save them from false hope. And like Eli said, there’s no way he was faking the look on his face on the Observation Deck when, in effect, he told Eli that they had less than a day to live.

I guess an Iphone won't do Rush much good. Talk about long distance!

The return of the space 1999 lottery !

Wow I didn't expect them to lift this from Space 1999. Good idea however.

So at least some Ancient starships can get power from the sun.

Just wondering. Can Atlantis do this too? I'm presuming it can't but feel free to prove me wrong..

By Callie (Csullivan) on Monday, January 24, 2011 - 4:08 am:

We've never seen Atlantis do a sundive while in flight, and now that you've raised the point, I can't help wondering why it can't. Maybe it's because the Ancients developed Zero Point Modules to power their ships, but a sundive should still be an alternative option if the ZPMs are malfunctioning/failing for some reason.

Maybe Atlantis does have that option but the expedition never got round to finding that file in the archives and so didn't know that it could be done.
