Okay, why do the Lucian Alliance want Destiny anyway? They invade it, but what's the point. Now that the Icarus like planet is destroyed, aren't they just as stranded as the humans? Even if they took over Destiny, what good is it to them? Even if they found a way to turn the ship around, it would take them thousands of years to get back to Lucian space. I just don't get it.

Okay, where did we get that starship that Sam Carter commands. Did our access to the Stargates allow us to build or acquire this fancy Star Trek like technology (once again my lack of knowledge of previous Stargate shows through here)

I wonder how many Chloe haters thought she was going to buy the farm this week.

Don't get me wrong, I liked the episode, but the Lucians actions just make no sense to me.

Yes, pretty much stated after Sci-Fi took over airing the show.

For Tim: Earth has had battle cruisers for some years, built with the help of Asgard technology: in order of their building they were named Prometheus (since destroyed), Daedalus, Odyssey, Apollo, and this one, the George Hammond, named after the former commanding officer of Stargate Command who died two years ago (in reality, the actor who played him died). The Russians also had a ship called the Korolev (since destroyed) and the Chinese have the Sun Tzu.
(Have I missed any, SG-1/Atlantis viewers?)

I only noticed in this episode that Telford is locked in what appears to be a storeroom rather than a bedroom, so it was a bit optimistic of Young to refer to the room as “Telford’s quarters” in the previous episode!

Why was Rush-in-Telford affected by the fact that Telford-in-Rush was suffocating? They haven’t felt each other’s pain up until now. I wouldn’t have expected Rush to collapse until the moment Telford actually died.

(I also would have expected them to revive in their own bodies – a trauma like that should surely overcome the influence of the stones – but I’ll allow it for the sake of plot.)

Camille and Scott watch from the doorway as Young pumps Telford’s chest, but neither of them attempts to help by breathing into Telford, which might have revived him more quickly.

In the Infirmary, Young says that he tried other ways of breaking Telford’s conditioning before killing him. Telford touches the cut on his face and says, “Yeah, thanks for that(!)” But didn’t he get that cut when he initiated a fight with Young and got himself beaten up by Greer? Is Young really claiming that he only taunted Telford about the deaths he caused in order to make him hit him so that Greer would have carte blanche to beat the cr*p out of him? Talk about a convoluted route!

T.J. seems unnecessarily tetchy about Young’s plan to kill the Alliance in the Gateroom. What was she expecting him to do?

Kleinman!! It’s so long since I’ve seen him on a battlecruiser that I didn’t even recognise him!

Kiva makes exactly the same mistake that Rush made – dialling the ninth chevron as if it’s an all-or-nothing option. Why doesn’t he try and persuade her that she’s likely to get everyone killed before they even step through the Gate and that it would be safer to dial a seven chevron address?

How sweet was it to hear a Milky Way Stargate dialling again? Even though I really like the buzzy hum of Destiny’s Gate, I got as nostalgic about the Icarus Gate as Jack did at the mention of pyramids!

Why did Eli download Daniel’s videos to his own player? He must have done it while on board the Hammond in the very first episode, because there would be no reason for those videos to be part of the emergency evacuation kit on Icarus.

Does Chloe make a habit of just opening the doors of people’s private quarters without knocking first?

It was great to see the giant kawhoosh and then the Alliance people arriving on Destiny just like the original Icarus crew did – far too fast.

Also, for once they seem to get the dialling sequence right. Icarus II’s ninth chevron engages, and only then does Destiny come out of F.T.L. and her Gate start to spin. Frequently in episodes of SG-1 – and, I suspect, Atlantis – the receiving Gate would start spinning before the outbound Gate had finished dialling. Regular nitpickers here on the Nitcentral Stargate pages pointed out that this was the same as starting to dial a phone number and the receiving phone ringing before you had dialled all the digits.

Why did coming through the Gate break the stones’ connection permanently? I could understand a temporary switch like when Destiny comes out of F.T.L. but I hope they explain the permanent change. And, for that matter, why didn’t Rush and Telford switch briefly when Destiny came out of F.T.L.?

Why doesn’t the Hammond beam the pilots out of the 302s if they know the craft can’t get back to the ship in time? We know they can do that from Atlantis’ episode “The Intruder”, and the fighters are closer to the Hammond than the ground crews on the planet, and they get beamed off all right. There’s no excuse for abandoning the pilots, and I’m fairly sure those craft don’t have enough fuel or air to make it to the next nearest planet with a Gate.

I was right! They did pinch a bit of footage (Young and a bunch of stormtroopers) from this episode to include in Pain.

Why is Kiva being such a pillock with her “What did you do to the Gate? You killed over a hundred of my men!” rant at the man she believes is still Rush? He told her she couldn’t dial the ninth chevron without blowing everything up. Why are baddie leaders always so bloody unreasonable when things happen exactly the way they were predicted by the experts?

People using the stones really have to stop saying, “It’s me,” when they return to their own bodies! That information is of no use to anyone until you clarify exactly who “me” is!

Dear script writers, producers, directors and editors: Please stop putting exciting action, complete with explosions, gunfire and shouting, over the top of Joel Goldsmith’s awesome background music, cos it’s very distracting and I can’t hear the music properly. Kthxbai. Love and hugs, Callie.
P.S. Alternatively, bully the man out of his current stance and order him to release a soundtrack album!

It’s strange how you get attached to certain crew members and not to others. When someone wearing black went down with shrapnel to the head, I initially thought it was Scott and didn’t even blink. As soon as I realised who it really was, I was wailing, “Riley! Noooo!”

Sam claims that the Hammond’s escape was even closer than from the original Icarus planet in Air. I’m not sure that sensors work that way in hyperspace and I doubt very much that she knows exactly when either of the Icarus planets actually blew after Hammond went into hyperspace. I think she’s just trying to talk herself into believing that she was justified in leaving her pilots behind, or trying to talk her general out of giving her a rollicking for breaking his “we don’t leave people behind” rule.

The editing in this episode is quite poor. There are unnecessary scenes like Sam trying to talk herself out of a court martial, but moments like Eli telling Chloe that he pushed some random buttons on the elevator when they jumped into it which we never saw; and we never see the Gate actually shut down after Icarus II explodes and so the bursts of steam from either side of the Gate come as a surprise. We also don’t seem to see the capture of four of the Alliance crew, though it’s hard to tell what’s going on in the dark during the battle.

When Eli picks Chloe up in his arms, he’s putting enormous pressure onto her leg wound. She ought to be screaming as he lifts her.

How did Telford manage to input his route from the Gateroom to the Control Interface Room onto the console with just a couple of keystrokes?

That was a totally horrific and awesome sight as the Alliance squad member started to burn. Once I’d got over the initial shock, I was asking myself, “Is that Franklin doing that?” If we find out next episode that it was a technical glitch with the shield, I’ll be well disappointed! However, it was one of those moments when I wasn’t sure whether the solo singing voice was coming from the ship or was simply background music to make the moment more atmospheric.

Poor Elyse: she is never going to be able to make Chloe a popular character while the writers have her whining “I’m so tired” after Eli has half killed himself carrying her. Did TPTB learn nothing from the way that Jennifer Keller was perceived by the audience when she arrived in Atlantis?

Well, that was a really lame ending. Considering how good Universe is at its surprise, edge of the seat endings, this was the worst one since Air part 1, and that was meant to be watched as a two hour special.

Now that Telford and Young are both on Destiny, with no chance of either getting back to Earth, which one is senior to the other? Will Young continue to command the Destiny or will Telford take over? I know Telford wants to be the boss and think he was supposed to be originally, since Young was going back to Earth.

I almost forgot to watch last night; I have not been watching anything but the Jays' games since all the season finales and have just been shutting off the TV once the game was done. I never even thought about Universe so when the ball game ended at only a few minutes to 8 I was all set to shut down when I suddenly remembered and checked my watch in a panic thinking I had missed it. I switched stations just as the Sanctuary credits were rolling :-).

Beth - ;)

I wonder if this means that Telford will be killed off. Unless they plan to make Lou Diamond Philips a regular.
