NANJAO. So far there are 22 of them.
They tend to be short & humorous.
Kino 18 relates to the episodeTime.
Some of the other shorts could relate to specific episodes, but I couldn't place them.
Having just done a full list of the Kinosodes so far, I have to say that I snorted a little and was tempted to reverse the description of Kinosode 10 so that it read:
10 – Eli interviews Chloe. Nobody Cares
;0)
Kinosode 23 makes me very angry. It was obviously filmed in an attempt to stave off all the many protests there have been about the abuse of other people’s bodies during communications stone swaps, and features a character who has swapped with Chloe saying that they all sign a document saying that it’s fine for the other person to take their body off to sleep with whoever they want. Yeah, right.
Yeah, that was bad. Would have been much better if they just never showed, spoke, or referred to the body-hopping sex ever again.
25 is nice. It's the scene we didn't see where Scott and Greer talk about their relationship after Scott left Greer for dead in Lost.
So are these scenes written specifically for the Kinos or did some idiot cut what turns out to be the better scenes from a story & it's only this kinosode format that allows people to actually see scenes that should be in the episodes rather than some of the lame garbage they actually leave in?
(Not that all the kinos are good, but they have a much, much higher success ratio than the episodes themselves.)
If it is cut footage, it could do with better publicity. I knew about the Kinosodes because I read about them on Gateworld but I've not seen them mentioned on the TV after the episodes, at least not in the UK. I don't know if Syfy advertise them or not. It seems a shame that important little scenes like All Telford's Fault and Drop the Sirs, which give a deeper insight into events or personalities and relationships, don't get a wider audience.
Obviously some of the Kinosodes are filmed separately and were never intended for the TV (Not Just for Posterity immediately comes to mind!) and others are filmed in a foolish attempt to stave off fan criticism (We Volunteer To Do This), but I agree with Keith that it's a shame that Drop the Sirs in particular was never shown during an episode.
I didn't mean to imply it was cut footage, just some scene in a script that got cut. (As tends to happen because of rewrites & for time.)
Most of the kinos seem like they were filmed specifically for this format, but I wondered if the basis for them was originally in a script.
The kino format would be a nice way to make use of otherwise lost moments like that.
Are these a web based series?
Yes, link at the top in Callie's second paragraph.
Four new Kinosodes are up (27-30). These appeared first on the DVD boxset but have now gone online as well.
The order of recording is now out of sequence, because these new ones include Spencer and Franklin (still with his arm in a sling), and Spencer was gone long before #25 and #26.
29 is hilarious at the end!
#27
Elie walks by 2 people then admits to the Kino that he doesn't know their names.
Yeahhhhh... it's not like you've been trapped on a starship with these people for weeks or even months. Heck, maybe they even worked at Icarus base for the whole time you were there? Pffft, getting to know people! You've got important stuff to do, like editing your kinos, or bugging Chloe! Yeahhhhhhh...
#28
Smoking on a spaceship... yeahhhhhh... Don't mind the limited oxygen guys, it's a biiiiiiiig ship.
Not that it would remain a secret for loooooong... either someone walking by will smell the cigarette smoke in the air or on their persons as they try to mingle with others.
#29
Okay, I can swear I saw part of this one before, but I don't think it was as a Kino.
#30
Once of those nice moments that should have been in an episode.
Althoughhhhhh... when he mentioned taking the dog for a walk, I had this mental image of his dog, frantically stuck in the house waiting for someone to let him out.
Bad KAM! Bad!
#27: The only excuse I can come up with is that, like #28 and #29, it's out of sequence and was recorded many months ago. With 80+ people on the ship, it might take a while to remember everyone's names, especially if you're not good with names, Kevin ... umm ... I mean Kieran.
maybe they even worked at Icarus base for the whole time you were there
You mean the whole one day he was there? ;-)
#28: Yes, you'd certainly think that Brody, being an engineer, would understand the problem even if Spencer didn't have a clue.
#29: You might be thinking of #6 (Don't Encourage Him) which was a similar theme of Eli, via Kino, annoying Greer in the Mess.
Yeah, if it was shortly afterwards I could see it (I couldn't remember exactly how many people were in the group), although since he likes recording things with his kinos wouldn't this have been a good time to ask them their names & find out more about them?
Obviously I couldn't remember how long he'd been on Icarus. Boy, talk about your bad first day on the job! ;-)
You might be thinking of #6
Just watched 6 & no. It was the dialogue that was familiar in 29. Maybe it was some video clip they had on Hulu or YouTube or something?
It'll just slowly drive me crazy trying to remember.
Voice in KAM's head: Drive? That's a short putt!
Quiet you!
Yeah, Eli had just been recruited when you-know-what hit the fan
