Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Stargate - SG-1, Atlantis, etc: Stargate Universe: Season 2: Pre-season rumours, comments etc
By Callie (Csullivan) on Monday, January 25, 2010 - 9:54 am:

So, from the working titles of the first four episodes, they're going to stick to the one-word titles. The following titles may change, but they're likely to stay one word, I imagine:

Intervention; Aftermath; Awakenings; and Pathogen.

By Keith Alan Morgan (Kmorgan) on Tuesday, January 26, 2010 - 4:42 am:

Followed by

Boring; Dull; Unimaginative

;-)

Could be worse, I suppose. They could be Friends-style titles.

The One With Eli's Toga Party
The One Where Rush Does Something Sneaky... Again... Part 47
The One Where Chloe & Camille Get It On

By Callie (Csullivan) on Tuesday, January 26, 2010 - 6:40 am:

Wow. An episode where Chloe actually does something. There's hope for the series yet! ;-)

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Tuesday, January 26, 2010 - 10:40 pm:

The One Where Chloe & Camille Get It On

I'd watch this one :-)

Eli's Toga Party, my reference to this show as Animal House In Space comes to mind here.

By Callie (Csullivan) on Sunday, March 14, 2010 - 10:06 am:

The one-word titles won't last, apparently. According to Joseph Mallozzi's latest blog, as early as episode 6 they may move on to longer titles.

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Monday, March 15, 2010 - 12:03 am:

Hmmmm, more imagination. Maybe the scripts will be better too.

By Callie (Csullivan) on Wednesday, March 24, 2010 - 9:59 am:

Robert Knepper (previously seen on TV playing T-Bag in Prison Break and Samuel Sullivan in Heroes) has been cast as a recurring character in Season 2. Further information here but BE WARNED it is very spoilerific.

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Thursday, March 25, 2010 - 2:40 pm:

I though Universe was going to stay away from other Stargate stuff. To a newbie, like me, the Lucian Alliance gets a "Buh?"

By Keith Alan Morgan (Kmorgan) on Friday, March 26, 2010 - 3:20 am:

I read Lucien Alliance & my first thought was "How'd they catch up?" then I realized that it implied a member of the group was a spy, which just brings up more questions of how incompetent the people who supposedly did backgrounds checks on who went to Icarus were?

Background Checker: So, you're not a terrorist, loony, or alien spy, are you?

Potential Recruit: Nope.

Background Checker: Good enough for me! Welcome aboard!

By Callie (Csullivan) on Friday, March 26, 2010 - 3:29 am:

Exactly. Are the writers really so stuck for ideas that they can't invent something more novel than that? And why the Lucian Alliance anyway? Nobody was impressed with them before, so why should we care now? If it was a Goa'uld I might be more excited (although I'd be asking even more questions about how s/he wasn't detected beforehand, so maybe strike that idea) but the Lucian Alliance were really boring before.

Then again, as far as Stargate Command/Homeworld Security interviewing techniques go, this is the organisation that sent a severely depressed man (Rush), a borderline psychotic (Greer) and a man capable of murder (Young) to a planet where they could have been stranded at any time, so the idea of them letting an alien spy through does not surprise me in the least.

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Friday, March 26, 2010 - 7:28 pm:

Shouldn't the Destiny be gajillions of lights years beyond Lucian Space (or any space of known Stargate species) by now? Why would the Lucians even bother with Destiny? So they have a spy aboard, what good is s(he)? The spy can't control the ship any more than the others can.

Don't tell me were gonna start the Gilligan's Island Syndrome (a new guest star every week) already.

By Callie (Csullivan) on Saturday, March 27, 2010 - 1:32 am:

I suppose the idea is that if the Lucian spy can find out any information which can be used to develop space travel and speed up their ships, he can pass on that information while he's using the communication stones to visit Earth. However, this does of course mean that they need to have a Lucian spy on Earth, which makes the plot a little ridiculous. It means that the Lucians are so smart that they anticipated this and managed to get someone through the Stargate (masquerading as some displaced innocent villager on a ravaged world, perhaps), and then that person either managed to escape from the SGC and establish him/herself in the outside world, or oh-so-conveniently proved him/herself indispensible and got a job with Stargate Command/Homeworld Security. Very likely. (/sarcasm)

By Keith Alan Morgan (Kmorgan) on Saturday, March 27, 2010 - 4:43 am:

Seems to me that aliens can just land on Earth or even ring down from a cloaked ship. I seem to recall an SG-1 ep with all sorts of bounty hunters running around.

The Alliance doesn't necesarily have to have known about Destiny. The spy could have simply infiltrated the SGC to learn what he could. It could explain why the Lucien Alliance attacked in the pilot. He reported some info & ended up on Destiny with the rest instead of back on Earth.

By Keith Alan Morgan (Kmorgan) on Saturday, March 27, 2010 - 4:45 am:

Me explaining away writer plot holes? 8-/

I feel so dirty! :-p

By Callie (Csullivan) on Friday, June 11, 2010 - 6:53 am:

It's only a working title at present, but I'm really hoping that the episode Twin Destinies isn't going to go the way I fear it will ...

My only hope is that Brad Wright, who is scripting this one, has enough sense not to go down that old clichéd route.

By Callie (Csullivan) on Friday, June 11, 2010 - 8:17 am:

In America, Season 2 will be shown on Tuesdays instead of Fridays. I'm not sure why Syfy decided on this change, although the boss of Gateworld said to me that viewing figures for the channel have been generally dropping on Fridays. I would have thought with the recession that more people would be staying home on a Friday night, or maybe there are better things to watch on other channels ...

Whatever the reason, it's flippin' annoying for me cos I either have to take time off each week or won't be able to get the transcript done until days after the broadcast.

By Beth MacKeage (Beth__) on Friday, June 11, 2010 - 5:01 pm:

If Space switches to Tuesdays then I will not be watching. Tuesday is NCIS night, although if SGU is aired at 8 p.m. that might work; I watch NCIS:LA at 7 from Detroit (satellite) and NCIS at 9 from Spokane. I also have community league meetings one Tuesday a month, which definitely would present a problem. They are over by 9 and I then watch LA at 10 from Spokane.

Beth - ;)

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Wednesday, July 07, 2010 - 8:47 pm:

If Space switches to Tuesdays then I will not be watching. Tuesday is NCIS night

They might have to, since they have nothing to do with the production of the show, they just air it in Canada. If you ask me, Space should have a part in making this show. It's made here in Canada (Vancouver)and most of the cast are Canadian. Also, the people running Space seem to know what they're doing.

Well, Beth, can't you just tape it and watch it later.

By Beth MacKeage (Beth__) on Wednesday, July 14, 2010 - 11:15 pm:

Because I have satellite I cannot tape one show while watching another.

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Thursday, July 15, 2010 - 12:10 am:

Oh, I didn't realize that. Another reason to switch to cable :-)

By Callie (Csullivan) on Monday, July 19, 2010 - 8:02 am:

Atlantis/Universe crossover! Two members (as yet unnamed) of the Atlantis crew will be appearing in an episode called Seizure. No further details yet, so it's not clear whether they'll be part of a flashback or will be communicating with Destiny crew via the stones.

Joseph Mallozzi has stated that this will not affect the script of the proposed Atlantis movie, titled Extinction, except for having to move the timeline of the movie which was originally going to take place shortly after the events of the final episode Enemy at the Gate. Further interesting questions from Joe about the crew of Atlantis can be found in The Puddle Jumper under the Atlantis section of Nitcentral.

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Tuesday, July 20, 2010 - 12:01 am:

So much for keeping Universe apart from the other shows.

By Callie (Csullivan) on Monday, July 26, 2010 - 7:58 am:

And the two members of the Atlantis crew have now been announced and will be Rodney McKay and Richard Woolsey. No word yet as to whether either of them will stone-transfer to Destiny or will remain on Earth.

By Callie (Csullivan) on Monday, July 26, 2010 - 9:39 am:

Latest Season 2 trailer, containing some really exciting looking stuff, including:

SPOILERS - highlight only if you don't mind being spoiled:

Rush hallucinating Gloria again - apparently after he finds out how to control Destiny;
Eli getting a girlfriend;
Amanda Perry returning - and perhaps getting her way with Nick this time;
Dr Caine from Faith!!
And just after Rush is bundled to the floor and drops a Kino which rolls along the floor (round about 1 minute 56), in the next shot of Rush upright again, is that Franklin out of focus in the background?! Squeeee!

Despite the fact that PAL (Previews Always Lie - we all remember the trailer of the blue aliens boarding Destiny, only to find out it was Rush hallucinating them), I'm excited!

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Monday, July 26, 2010 - 7:24 pm:

We'll just have to wait and see :-)

By Keith Alan Morgan (Kmorgan) on Tuesday, July 27, 2010 - 12:17 am:

I was so disappointed to see Camille in that clip. Nothing against the actress, but I really want to see that annoying character get shoved out an airlock.

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Wednesday, September 08, 2010 - 6:00 pm:

Looks like the show is going to stay on Friday nights in Canada.

By Callie (Csullivan) on Thursday, September 09, 2010 - 2:54 am:

Interesting. I assume that Canada will therefore be three days behind the USA rather than four days ahead. (Although a Friday premiere would be so much better for me transcript-wise!)

Beth will be pleased!

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Friday, September 10, 2010 - 12:15 am:

The Season Premier in Canada is October 1.

By Callie (Csullivan) on Friday, September 10, 2010 - 4:56 am:

Yep, that makes sense, as the US premiere is on Tuesday 28th September.

By Callie (Csullivan) on Thursday, September 23, 2010 - 5:57 am:

New Season 2 trailer, ready for the premiere next Tuesday.

By Callie (Csullivan) on Friday, October 01, 2010 - 6:46 am:

Don't get settled into this series, folks: episode 1 just tanked big time in its new Tuesday night slot. According to Gateworld, Intervention is the lowest-rated episode of the series to date”, so unless more people finally track it down in its new slot and decide to watch it rather than the several other strong programmes scheduled against it, I wonder if it might be cancelled mid-season, let alone stand no chance of a third season.

Jolly well done, Syfy. (/sarcasm)

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Friday, October 01, 2010 - 7:35 pm:

Interesting to see how well it will do in Canada tonight, since our channel, Space, has kept it on Fridays. Sadly, even if it becomes the most watched show in Canada, it won't matter. Canadian ratings don't count for a U.S. show.

Ironic, since Universe is MADE in Canada and at least 50% of the cast are Canadians.

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Saturday, October 02, 2010 - 10:50 pm:

Apparenly the reason Sci-Fi (I refuse to call it by that stupid new name) movied this show to Tuesday was because they put Smackdown on Friday.

Could some one tell me how rigged wrestling can POSSIBLY be construed as science fiction!? This is like putting Law & Order on the Cartoon Network!

By ScottN (Scottn) on Saturday, October 02, 2010 - 11:25 pm:

Well, it *is* fiction, there's just no "science" in it.

By Callie (Csullivan) on Sunday, October 03, 2010 - 8:56 am:

But why the idiots put it up against well established and popular series like NCIS is boggling the minds of many. Not to mention that they didn't even do major advertising on Fridays to point out to potential viewers that Universe had moved to a Tuesday. Apparently there were many many Sciffy viewers online on Wednesday protesting that they hadn't even known that it had been on the night before until they'd read about it on the internet.

Why the heck would you give a budget to a show and then not advertise it and put it up against a really popular rival?! If they want to kill the show, why not just refuse it a budget in the first place? I seriously don't understand.

By Beth MacKeage (Beth__) on Sunday, October 03, 2010 - 3:18 pm:

Fortunately Space Channel in Canada left it on Fridays, although the fact that it airs at 8 p.m. is ok - I have other shows to watch at 7 and 9 and the same applies to Tuesdays actually. I actually taped all three shows this Friday because I preferred to watch the ball game live and since we now have PVR it was possible

Beth - ;)

By Callie (Csullivan) on Saturday, December 18, 2010 - 8:26 am:

Comments on the cancellation of the series have been moved to a dedicated topic in Eli's Kino.
