This looks to me like a fill-in episode. Most of it was in Scott's mind.

Once again the Ancients had a gate put on a dangerous planet. Why?

If Chloe was under quarrantine, why was she on this mission? Answer, if Chloe hadn't come along, Scott would have died.

Notice that even in his mind, Scott knows something is not right. Well, the town of Cloverdale has virtually no population, for one. Everyone there is a person from Destiny.

I see they found a way to have Telford in an episode, despite the fact that he was left to the tender mercies of those aliens two episodes back.

Oh Chloe, Chloe, Chloe, what were you thinking, exposing yourself to the venom. Of course, she lucked out because the aliens made her immune. Did she suspect that, I wonder, before going through with it.

This episode was okay, but, as I said, it was just a filler episode. Nothing really advanced the plot, except Scott is now quarrentined with Chloe. I guess Eli is not too thrilled about that. He may as well have "I LOVE CHLOE!" tatooed on him.

Oh, I liked this episode very much – well, at least until the triffids turned up. They kind of spoiled it by being so ... triffidy, but otherwise I really enjoyed it, and all through my first viewing I was thinking, “Holy buckets, this is gonna be a challenging one to transcribe!” but I was excited about doing it rather than dreading it.

Also, because the plants were so similar to triffids, I kept wanting the team to try chucking salt water at them.

I love how Ronald is typically Greer-like when he says to Everett, “Pleasure to meet you, sir,” and Everett tells him to call him by his first name – to which Ronald replies, “Yes, sir.”

So Eli is Chloe’s brother in Cloverdale. So is he Eli Armstrong or is she Chloe Wallace? I’m thinking the latter, as there’s no sign of either of her parents (as we know them) at the wedding. Then again, we don’t see Maryann either. And, seeing as Dale calls Matt by his proper surname, presumably Everett’s surname is also Scott in Cloverdale-world.

I liked how the Cloverdale residents in the cinema and at the bar were all the usual extras seen on board Destiny. Also the paramedic with Tamara is apparently one of the regular military crew. And there’s a strong consensus online (though not yet confirmed by TPTB, I believe) that the two characters in the movie are Brian and Elyse’s stunt doubles/stand-ins.

The team gets close to the Stargate and puts Scott onto the Kino sled (nice to see that again!). At the end of that scene someone – presumably T.J. – has her fingers on Scott’s neck checking his pulse but isn’t wearing gloves.

As always I’m in awe of David Blue’s little moments of naturalness during filming. When they’re starting to cut Scott’s arm and then realise that the infection is already in his bloodstream, Eli is kneeling at Scott’s feet and holding them, then partway through the ensuing conversation he suddenly seems to realise that he doesn’t need to hold them any more and snatches his hands away.

“Is there any planets in range?” asks Rush, and I teleport to the planet to smack him around the back of the head for his appalling English. I can only assume that Bobby fluffed his line but the director let it slide ... so I teleport to Vancouver to smack him around the back of the head.

While the troops are building the barricade around the Gate, Young radios to Greer that they’re sending a Kino to go out on a recce. Why doesn’t the offworld team already have one? They would have done the normal thing of sending a Kino to check out the area around the Gate before the offworld team left Destiny.

Nicholas Rush, Justice of the Peace. How ironic, considering he causes more wars on Destiny than anyone else!

I love how Nicholas still has a notebook and pencil in Cloverdale!

Where did they get all that fuel to keep the flamethrowers going for so long?

We see Everett greeting David as he arrives at the wedding venue, but Matt is in the kitchen during that time. How come we’re seeing scenes that Matt isn’t?

OK, I’m not even going to get into a long debate about the ludicrousness of transfusing Chloe’s blood into Scott. This is most probably another example of how Stargate writers take not a blind bit of notice of medical protocols and never do their research. No doubt if challenged, Joseph Mallozzi will claim that Chloe and Scott have identical blood types, or she has the universal donor type or he has the universal recipient type – or both – and they just hadn’t bothered to mention it to us.

My heart broke a little during the bit during the marriage ceremony where Nicholas was doing the “If any person can show just cause why they may not be joined together ...” bit while the footage was showing Eli’s angry and disappointed face in the Gateroom. But the whole of Nicholas’ speech was fantastically interspersed with appropriate footage for each line, and the director deserves a lot of praise.

During the multiple dial-outs, I was actually on the edge of my seat, half-convinced that Greer would mis-time a dial and get caught in the kawhoosh. I love Greer loads and wouldn’t want to lose him, but it would have been such a brave thing for the writers to do.

Wow – we haven’t seen the bursts of steam when the Gate shuts down for ages!

Good episode, and such fun to write up – not to mention one of the longest transcripts I’ve ever done.

No sign of Camille in Cloverdale. Is this a reflection of Scott’s opinion of her – that she’s not worth dreaming about? But it’s interesting to see that, subconsciously at least, he may already be aware of Young’s drinking problem and doesn’t consider him the great man that he perhaps used to. And it’s even more fascinating how he perceives Rush – though quite what the significance of the cowboy boots was, I don’t know!

I also think that the real Nick showed himself well in this episode. I suspect that Brad Wright – the writer of this ep – likes the character more than perhaps some of the others do. In particular, I was impressed how he stayed behind to help with the transfusion instead of legging it through the Gate at the first opportunity.

Once again the Ancients had a gate put on a dangerous planet.
Presumably the killer triffids didn’t evolve on the planet until after the seeder ship had dropped a Stargate there. Either that or Destiny is trying very hard to kill her passengers. ;-)

Chloe was under quarrantine
No, she wasn’t. Everyone (apart from Rush) thought she had been cured by her session in the Chair, so she was free to move around freely again.

It has been mentioned in another forum that Carlyle is a big fan of westerns. I expect that he incorporated that into his apparel - and the cowboy boots - in the episode. I suppose it is quite possible that he is always wearing them and we just do not notice - ?

Beth - ;)

Of course, now Young has packed both of them in quarrentine.

Ooh, good point, Beth (and it's nice to see you here again!). I shall be watching Rush more closely in future (any excuse is a good one!).

By ScottN (Scottn) on Monday, November 01, 2010 - 2:02 pm:

Why is only Chloe affected by the aliens? Rush was kidnapped from the abandoned ship and put in one of those tanks as well.

By Beth MacKeage (Beth__) on Monday, November 01, 2010 - 2:29 pm:

And they had longer to work on him too.

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Tuesday, November 02, 2010 - 12:13 am:

Maybe whatever they did affects women differently than men. We don't really know what the aliens did, after all, or what they really were after?

By Keith Alan Morgan (Kmorgan) on Wednesday, December 01, 2010 - 1:16 am:

In reality Scott is dying, in the dream he's getting married.
Gee, a no-win situation either way. ;-)

Gee that was an unbeleivably strong organism. Way stronger than any natural organism should be. Especially considering that it was encountering an alien organism itself. What are the odds that the human body would be so perfect for this thing to latch onto & take over?

Course I found myself thinking how Star Trek might have dealt with the situation & realizing that they would have examined the environment & tried to find something that would naturally inhibit/kill the organism & then I realized that the whole point of this episode was to have Chloe use her superpower of super-healing. Ho-hum.
Yeah, yeah, there was also strengthening the Scott/Chloe relationship (yawn) & creating another possible pawn for the aliens (eh), but it really seemed to be so strong solely for the blood ex machina to save the day.

So will Scott & Chloe be put into separate quarrentine cells, as would be the smart thing to do, or together?
