We could have done with a bit more knock-on from last week’s episode, with Eli and Nick coming to terms (or even not coming to terms) with what’s happened to them and the death of the person they cared for.

There were a whole lot of nice little throwaway – and totally unnecessary but still good fun – lines in this episode, like Volker commenting that Caine normally speaks in more of a monotone, and Brody and Volker arguing about whether Boone could impersonate Caine or the other way around. We haven’t even seen Boone since Life, the ninth episode of Season 1 (and I had to do a search through the transcripts to remind myself who he was!). The argument about Greeks and Trojans was fun too.

Apparently that big honkin’ door which covers the Bridge was so expensive to make that the production crew are going to use it whenever possible, cos we’ve never seen a door like it covering the shuttle exit before now!

What happened to Dana? It was Peter and Dana who came to visit Caine’s cabin when T.J. was there with the baby. I guess the actress wasn’t available for this episode and so they’re trying to pretend that it was Val instead and we’re just supposed not to remember otherwise.

Have they changed Chloe’s make-up? She’s beginning to look different without looking alien. It’s very subtle and very clever.

Great lines:
Eli: “‘Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.’ Arthur C. Clarke.”
Young: “‘Turn the mic back on.’ Winston Churchill.”
Eli (frowning): “Really?”

(Talking about the shuttle)
Rush: “Well, it appears to have been completely restored.”
Scott: “Brand spankin’ new, more like it.”
Rush: “Every part, every system, every square inch of this thing’s in perfect factory condition.”
Brody: “Even has that new shuttle smell(!)”

T.J. says that the Faith crew have no signs of malnutrition “just like the day we left them.” Wouldn’t pretty much everyone on the ship have been suffering from at least the first stages of malnutrition by then?

Aww, it was sweet to see the repair robot again, albeit briefly.

The talk between Young and Camille in his office was nice.

I have adored him and his character since the beginning, but I fell totally in love with Jamil Walker Smith in this episode. His quiet thoughtful delivery of Greer’s lines when he’s not being BadassGreer is simply awesome. His talk with Scott was superb – and his talk with Chloe had me in floods of tears.

I cackled with delight when Rush said that Mr. Chan must have had a full head of hair at one time. For those who don’t visit Gateworld’s Forum, the regulars on there have a huge soft spot for the character who came to be known as “Balding Asian Guy.” He was, to the best of my knowledge, only ever in Faith as a background character and then, of course, disappeared from the show by staying behind on the planet but he has a huge following on the Forum, to the extent that Joseph Mallozzi promised to try and bring him back one day and the actor is now a member of the Forum and talks with the fans. This line was a gorgeous nod to the fans and one that I’m sure they appreciated.

How convenient that Camille knows how to do hypnosis ... and how strange that she has never mentioned it before. Why hasn’t it been suggested that she try it on Chloe to see if they can find out what’s going on in her head?

Under hypnosis, Peter says that he and Val spent the night together under the stars. He also says that it’s really cold, and Caine confirms this later in Peter’s flashback. The crew don’t have much in the way of warm clothing and covers, so the two of them must have been really desperate for sex!

Additionally, Peter says that he can see his breath, but then we can’t see it in his flashbacks at the time. Presumably the production crew were able to chill down the shuttle set to produce breath later on but maybe didn’t have the budget to put fake breath in during the outdoor scenes.

And this all leads to the most important question of all: why the heck didn’t the crew head to the other side of the planet? When Young left them the shuttle he said that it would “fly around in short hops on the surface”. Why didn’t they at least attempt to get to the warmer half of the planet? Did Caine actually force them to stay in proximity to the obelisk with his manic conviction that the aliens would come for them soon?

During Caine’s flashback to their freezing last hours in the shuttle, he says that Peter has made some candles to keep them warm and that they provide enough light to read. They’re freezing to death – who wants to be reading at a time like that when they probably don’t even have gloves?!

Why does everyone else on the freezing shuttle have sores on their faces but not Caine?

How does Caine know that Young and T.J. were sensing weird things in his proximity?

I am getting just a little tired of sobbing my heart out while typing transcripts. I was only a little bit upset during the first time that I watched Caine’s final scene with T.J., but typing it up later I was in pieces all the way through it. However, it does mean that I’m totally invested in these episodes, which is no bad thing.

Who activated the Kino in the shuttle? Caine was the last one alive and he wasn’t holding a remote in the footage. Did the aliens choose to show proof of their existence?

Also, if Caine was still alive when the aliens arrived at the shuttle, will he survive on Destiny? If not, why not?

And why did the aliens send the crew back to Destiny only to die all over again?

And does this mean that T.J.’s dream was Destiny-induced rather than alien-induced?

This episode really didn't make much sense. As Callie said, why did the aliens bother sending Caine and the others back to die? Was this a message, that Caine and the others should have stayed on Destiny all along?

Eli is back moaning for Chloe. Ginn who??

Young was right to treat Caine and the others they way he did. They just come back for no reason and can't account why? I'd be on high alert too.

Well, at least they got the shuttle back. The aliens may have let Caine and his lot die again, but at least they had the decentcy to fix the shuttle.

I'm sure the Chloe Haters have the champaign on ice, waiting for her demise, but I don't think it's gonna be that simple.

I too liked the soft side of Greer.

Well, next week looks interesting...
