This episode was almost Star Trek in nature. What first appeared to be a rampaging mindless monster turned out to be intelligent. It was protecting its territory from what it saw as a threat (the humans).

Greer continues to recover from his operation. Nice to see him open up a bit. His initial distrust of Varro gives way to a gruding respect. Loved what he said to the monster, to remember that he chose not to kill it, even though he had the means to do so.

So, Varro is now the last surviving Lucian on Destiny (aside from Ginn, who is stashed away in the computer system). He and TJ had been growing closer and they almost kissed, if Young hadn't turned up at that moment.

Loved the opening scenes with Scott, James, and Greer talking about meat. Looks like they got their meat, Greer bagged one of those dear things (which must be the natural prey of the monsters).

Eli, Eli, Eli, when are you going to learn not to try and pull the wool over Rush's eyes. He clearly saw through you, and arranged the little accident with Brody.

Volker, dude, you like Lisa, everyone could see that.

Chloe continues to grow, it seems she is training to work in the Infirmary, helping TJ.

Not a bad episode, considering the preview made it seem just like a monster hunt show.

Four more episodes to go.

This was Stargate’s 350th episode.

So they couldn’t have called this simply Hunt to keep to the usual tradition of a one word title?

When Scott shows the Kino footage of the creature’s attack to Young and Chloe, the bit where the creature knocked Scott over is conveniently missing. Did Matt edit out the embarrassing bit of the footage before showing it?!

And why is Chloe being shown this footage? Is she second in charge of the Infirmary or something? If so, it’s never been indicated before, and her new alien knowledge isn’t relevant in this instance. Did she just barge in on the others, or are she and Matt joined at the hip?

Where’s Koz? Yes, I imagine the actor wasn’t available, but if they’re going to kill off all the Alliance crew except Varro, and seeing as they made sure that we saw that Koz was one of the few who wasn’t abandoned at the end of Aftermath, they should have done something to make it look as if he was there, even if only mention him by name.

While Young and his team are on the planet there’s nothing much that the crew on Destiny can do other than hurry up and wait, so why hasn’t Matt – who is supposed to be in charge – taken a few minutes to go and at least wash the dirt off his face and therefore look a bit more respectable? Also, he’s got cuts on his face and ought to get them cleaned out before they get infected.

The early filming of Reynolds in the cave with T.J. was done so strangely – plus the way that his difficulty with his alleged broken leg seemed to get easier over time – that I was convinced that “Reynolds” either didn’t exist and Tamara was imagining him, or that the creature was some kind of advanced polymorph and was masquerading as a human.

Apparently the scenes in the cave were meant to be interspersed with several flashbacks to Tamara’s childhood, presumably showing her development into the person she is today. The scenes were all filmed but then dropped because the episode overran. At the time, Joseph Mallozzi was happy to do this and save the scenes for a future episode in season 3. Now the big question is whether they’ll add the scenes into the DVD release, either as a deleted scenes section or as an extended version of this episode.

I know that they have to provide light so that we, the viewers, can see, but just where were we supposed to think that that light was coming from in the night time forest?! It was clearly shining through the trees rather than from a convenient overhead moon, and looked more like there was a car parked just over the rise!

Presumably the pouring rain in the forest was natural and not hosed in. I bet the crew were thoroughly fed up after that night’s filming!

Considering how close Varro and Greer are to the explosion that takes out the first creature, they are surprisingly uncovered with bits of creature afterwards.

After the creatures take Tasia and Marsden, why is Greer leading the way when Varro’s the one who has more experience of how to hunt?

TJ’s logic is rather flawed: she reckons that the creature thinks the humans are smart, therefore it doesn’t want to eat them? Huh? And how does she suddenly know that it has a family?

For someone with – at best – a fractured leg, Reynolds sure is walking well at the end.

Aww, Dale! My heart broke for him when he found Lisa and Greer together.

I’m sure it’s brilliant having meat an’ all, but once again the death of one of their own – Marsden – and several of the Alliance crew is apparently not even worth sparing a moment’s sadness about. At least five people died to rescue just two, and apparently nobody even blinks. I hope Marsden, Tasia, Koz and the others come back to haunt them.

And three episodes running where Camile hasn’t shown up. Not that I missed her – anyone else notice she wasn’t even there?

Kind of like Star Trek after a red shirted Ensign Deadmeat buys the farm, as long as the regulars are okay.

Now that you mention it, I never noticed she wasn't there until you brought it up.

I was reminded of the SG-1 10th season episode "Uninvited" at the beginning when the monster overran everyone and no one actually saw it. At the end it looked more like a small dinosaur. :-)

And I was checking Reynolds to see if he was wearing any red :-) fully expecting him to die.

Overall I was definitely unimpressed with the whole episode. The previous week's was much better, especially since Rodney was in it. :-) (I recorded and played them both back Wednesday night).

Beth - ;)

Greer says, "If they can give me one good reason why I shouldn't eat them, I won't."
Well, given that it's an alien animal, there is a possibility it might be poisonous to Humans, or at least make people sick.

On the other hand it might have been interesting if at the bar-b-que at the end, we see people take a bite, then spit it out because it tastes awful. ;-)
