It's official - a new trilogy of movies based off the original movie, not the TV series, has been announced. It brings back Devlin and Emmerich as the writers, producer and director, and the first one probably won't be released until the summer of 2017, so don't hold your breath!
With little, if any, connection to the TV series (so presumably no Sam or Teal'c), and therefore probably no mention at all of the Atlantis or Universe scenarios, this is basically a complete reboot for new viewers who've not seen the TV shows. It'll be interesting to see whether they even include Jack and Daniel or go for a brand new set of characters.
Probably no Goa'uld, since Ra was the last of his kind in the movie.
And I see they'll be making a sequel to Independence Day too. That's nice.
Stargate: Development Hell not coming to theatre near you! ;-)
"Stargate: for Pete's sake Emmerich let it go - it was twenty years ago that you lost the franchise for this and nobody cares any more"
The title may need some work in order to fit onto the screen. ;-)
Stargate: Flogging A Dead Horse
Stargate: Retconning Away The Beloved Series
Stargate: Big, Flashy Special Effects!
Stargate: Emmerich & Devlin's Football
Stargate: The Big Mistake
Stargate: 2016 and still not here yet!
I know, and I've been chewing my nails to the quick in eager anticipation!
Oh, wait. No I haven't.
I love this fan's rewrite of part of The Other Guys:
O'Neill: What are you doing here?
Emmerich: Stand easy. We're here to rescue you!
Carter: Did he say "we"?
Emmerich: That's right, I have Dean Devlin with me!
Devlin: Hi!
O'Neill: Look everybody! He's got Devlin with him!
Emmerich: You can thank us later. Right now we've got to save this franchise.
O'Neill: Emmerich! Just what part of "Ten seasons, two spinoffs, and two feature films" did you not understand?
Ignore the sound of me sniggering.
Could have seen this coming a mile off.
