Three Men and a Smoking Diaper

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: The Lone Gunmen: Season One: Three Men and a Smoking Diaper
The Lone Gunmen become reluctant and rather inept nursemaids to the illegitimate baby of a drunk, philandering, saxophone-playing Senator whose campaign-aide girlfriend died in a suspicious accident

"I got it from a friend over at the FBI." :) That was an enjoyable line.

The gas thing was funny, too. As was Frohike's line about what he does to get a story, given everything has happened since Pilot.

i really enjoyed this episode!

a couple of little things that i noticed

1) the senator's campaign managers casually go into the bathroom to talk about a secret they don't want anyone to know and they don't even think to look under the stalls.

2) i have never went to a doctors office and got service that fast even when i was hurt. plus there were no other patients waiting but i guess that's why they got such good service.

3) didn't they violate some type of fcc regulation by hacking into the television stations satellite feed?

4) where was the senator's family? i don't think any politician today can get elected without being a family man or woman.

loved the name of the kid, william jefferson. that was funny!!

Yes, but do you really think that an anti-hacking law will stop the Lone Gunmen. (I mean they are the type who hack into the DOD, The FCC dosen't scare them.)

but what i was trying to say was they were caught and you can't just pay a fine for something like that, right? plus they don't have any money. they even got to keep their van it wasn't confiscated. the consequences should have been greater and long lasting.

A wildly uneven script. Yves had no real point to be in this episode, and her characterization was vastly different than in previous episodes.

Nice work from the guest cast, though. The ending was cute, although I still want to know how Jefferson and Brenda discovered the Lone Gunmen Offices.

The FCC dosen't scare them.

Besides, Byers is ex-FCC (cf. The Unusual Suspects).

Jefferson looked like Al Gore, behaved like Bill Clinton.

Will someone please hire a maid for these guys!

By Lee Jamilkowski (Ljamilkowski) on Saturday, March 24, 2001 - 7:39 pm:

Actually, I think Jefferson looked like Gore when he had his hair wet (the shower scene), but like Clinton when his hair was dry (giving the speech at the end).

As for Yves, this episode just establishes she does have a soft spot in her heart, but won't waste a moment to ridicule TLG. I loved her flirting with the various guys. :)

Yves is hot!

IMHO, the gas scene would be even funnier if it was after "Like Water for Octane". That way we could have Langley say something like "If Frohike haddn't destroyed the magic water car, I wouldn't have to do this."

Of course, there is another great line from this episode. I hesitate to repeat it because it SO borders on tasteless, it would probably get me banned.

But we all know the line, what Frohike says about certain parts of Yves's anatomy. :)

FREE THE PRISONERS! :)

OK, Yves is obviously hot. I can't pronounce the actress' name, though.

They way the three fumbled with the baby, but yves instantly knows what to do is very funny, but also very sterotype. Did none of these guys have siblings, or neighbor children? Are they so socially inept they know nothing at all about child care? Even if they do, why not go to the next library or internet site and look up the very basic stuff? And why should yves know anything about it, if she is the career woman to the bone?

By constanze on Tuesday, April 01, 2003 - 6:38 am:

Why does it matter so much if jefferson has a baby not from his wife? Murdering his assistant is a very serious crime, but it turns out it was his assistant who did it not intentionally, but out of neglect. Whether jefferson cheated on his wife is not a crime, its a matter between his wife and him and the other woman.

Yes. They are that socially inept. They have been ever since they were introduced on the X-Files.

By constanze on Tuesday, April 01, 2003 - 9:27 am:

I mean, being shy or uncomfortable around people or having trouble interacting with them doesn't mean having no knowledge about how to hold children, or change diapers. If they aren't interested in people and therefore, not interested in children, that would explain it, but I often wonder how many of these stereotypical computer nerds which don't deal with people really feal superior because of their brains and therefore don't want to interact, and how many feel lonely and don't know how to interact, but would like to know people.
And picking up all kinds of not-related knowledge is part of being a nerd, isn't it? Like those people who know the names of all planets visited by the Enterprise in TOS, the names of all the fictious persons on the x-files etc.... um, maybe I better stop here before I get jumped by every nitpicker... :)

By ScottN on Tuesday, April 01, 2003 - 10:59 am:

Constanze, these guys have been living in a closet since 1989 (see The Unusual Suspects(XF). Before that, all they cared about was tech. The possible exception is Byers, because he was an FCC guy before he joined the Gunmen. They really are that "sterotypical".

And, knowledge about how to deal with kids is "touchy-feely" stuff. Yeah, it's trivia, but it's trivia that wouldn't interest them.
