I thought this was the best of the four Invasion books. I gave it a 9 out of 10.

Uh oh. I have to correct a mistake. I gave it a 9 and a 1/2 out of 10. Excellant. Kudos, Diane Carey. By the way, I have this book signed in my autograph collection. Diane Carey is a member of my Star Trek fan club, the U.S.S. Intrepid, http://www.ussintrepid.org

Yes, this is by far the best of the Invasion books. It gave insight into the Furies and was the best written.

I agree, though I only JUST started Book Four, and I like Ab Hugh's work (especially his DS9 novel Fallen Heroes).

I've always said that I don't like Diane Carey (episode novels exempted) Star Trek books, but I have to say that this one was very good. Normally I would have thought all the cheesey thoughts and dialogue amongst the crew eye-rolling, but it seems to fit right in with TOS.

This was the first in series of books that dealt with a race called the Furies. The Furies claim that, thousands of years ago, they ruled the Alpha Quadrant, before another race drove them out. Now they are back.

As it turns out, the Furies had visited many world in the AQ, including Earth. These visits resulted in the starting of the legends of demons and such beings in Earth's mythology. And once Kirk and Co. get a good look at the Furies, they can understand where these legends came from.

The crew of the Enterprise are forced to team up with the Klingons to help deal with this ancient menace. However, it seems that even the combined forces of the Federation and the Empire may not be enough.

A worthy Star Trek Halloween story, right up there with Catspaw. There was even a scene right out of The Wicker Man. Luckily, unlike the main protagonist of that film, McCoy gets out alive.
