There is one really big nit in this book: The wormhole shouldn't work! From all indications, the wormhole is only the big structure near the badlands. How do Gamma ships get there? I could imagine it would work from the Alpha Quadrant, but it would be like the Barzan wormhole. The only possibility is that there is also an outlet in the Gamma Quadrant, but that opens up many other nits. How did they transmit Grof's plans? Who mined the Cordazine? And, more importantly, who's building it?! The obvious answer to the last two questions is, "Oh, they used Jem'Hadar." But if thats true, then why bother with the Federation prisonners in the first place?
Oh yeah, nice ending.
It was nice to see Ro again, though. Do you think that TPTB will bring her back on DS9, or did she get killed on DS9 when all the Maquis got wiped out?
In the novel universe, she msut be alive. The Maquis were all wipe dout back in season five and this takes place in season six. Who knows about the television universe?
I'm just starting to read the books now but the thing I hate so far is the way the author wrote how the Dominion treated the Fed prisoners. The way they were treated was horrible. In the DS9 episode where we find out Bashir has been in a Dominion prison with Martok we see that the prisoners are treated a heckuva lot better than the book portrays. The way the book portrays it is just horrible. But still the rest of the book is pretty good so far...I'm at the part where what's his name gets a ship to get the cordawhatever and he is arguing with the Trill.
Finished the book (like yall care)...not to bad...pretty good...
A Nit: When Ro and Boothby (Picard) first hail the Ferengi ships the author makes a mention of naked women scrambling to get out of the viewscreen....it said it was the wives of the Ferengi...he must be marrying species other than Ferengi since women are not allowed of Ferenginar.
I had another one but the book mark I had on the page fell out and I lost it.
One hting I didn't get about this novel. Why did the Enterprise need to drop shields whenever it fired torpedos? Wouldn't it make sense to have weapons that can be fired without compromising the protection?
Scott N: It was nice to see Ro again, though. Do you think that TPTB will bring her back on DS9, or did she get killed on DS9 when all the Maquis got wiped out?
Lee jamilkowski: In the novel universe, she msut be alive. The Maquis were all wipe dout back in season five and this takes place in season six. Who knows about the television universe?
Luigi Novi: She appeared in the DS9 jam novel Wrath of the Prophets, by Peter David, Michael Jan Friedman, and Robert Greenberger, but that was set in between The Adversary and The Way of the Warrior, before the Dominion wiped out the Maquis.
Ro also appears in the new DS9 books set after the series, which appear to have commendable continuity with the series (though not with other novels) as DS9's new security officer, replacing Odo.
I think John Vornholt got confused with Dune-type shields, which you have to drop to fire torpedo weapons. Clearly this doesn't apply in Star Trek.

It was hinted that some may have survived. Ro is clearly one of those survivors.
