Silent Enemy

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Enterprise: Season One : Silent Enemy

By Machiko Jenkins (Mjenkins) on Thursday, November 29, 2001 - 11:33 pm:

According to TrekEnterprise.com, this episode will not air until 1-23-02 (well, it actually says 1-23-01).

So what the heck are they going to do to fill the junkies' cravings? Just show reruns? Have a Porthos-athon?

Looks like the rumours are confirmed...

By Rene on Friday, November 30, 2001 - 2:15 pm:

So, it's not going to air until last year. Great! We missed it ;)

By Dave on Friday, November 30, 2001 - 8:20 pm:

The next episode will air last January? Sounds like one of those strange temporal quirks.

By Machiko Jenkins (Mjenkins) on Friday, November 30, 2001 - 9:46 pm:

Hey, you think that's bad? It's over a year between eps! 'Dear Doctor' is scheduled to run on 1-30-02 (and yes, it says that)!

Actually, we've discovered the secret of Y2K. 2002 will never arrive...(does that make it Y2K2?)

By supercooladdict on Friday, November 30, 2001 - 10:13 pm:

Although having to wait 2 months kinda $ucks, it was pretty nice to have 11 episodes in a row before we had any reruns.

Now if TPTB can bring me back to May 20, 1989 maybe I can prevent myself from marrying my future ex-wife, of course then I won't have to go back, and then I won't be there to prevent it which means I'll end up marrying her, and then I'll realize TPTB's strange power over time and blackmail them into sending me back to prevent my marriage, and then ... I'm getting a headache.

By Rene on Saturday, December 01, 2001 - 2:37 pm:

What does this have to do with this episode?

By SMT on Saturday, December 01, 2001 - 3:53 pm:

And what rumors?

By margie on Thursday, December 06, 2001 - 12:29 pm:

A Porthos-athon? I'm there! :)

By Merat on Friday, December 07, 2001 - 5:05 am:

Machiko: "Hey, you think that's bad? It's over a year between eps! 'Dear Doctor' is scheduled to run on 1-30-02 (and yes, it says that)!"

How is this more than a year?

By Merat on Friday, December 07, 2001 - 5:08 am:

Oh wait! Your probably European! In the US, where Enterprise is based, 1-30-02 means January 30th, 2002. (I'm pretty sure its the same in Canada).

By TJFleming on Friday, December 07, 2001 - 7:18 am:

::Even in Europe, there is no month "30." The "over a year" Machiko refers to is from 1/23/01 ("Silent Enemy") to 1/30/02 ("Dear Doctor").

By Merat on Friday, December 07, 2001 - 11:02 am:

I do realize that there is no moth 30 in Europe, TJ. However, Machiko's "(and yes, it says that)!" had me thinking that he saw this as a particularly st-upid error, i.e. "They even think its month 30!?". However, thank you for clearing that up.

By ScottN on Friday, December 07, 2001 - 11:23 am:

Uh, Machiko is a she, not a he. She's engaged to Mark Morgan (Reboot/Angel Moderator).

By Anonymous on Friday, December 07, 2001 - 5:44 pm:

"engaged" is a loaded word. The Enterprise D "engaged" the borg. Is Machicko "engaged" the same way?:)

By ScottN on Friday, December 07, 2001 - 8:47 pm:

Would you prefer the word "betrothed"? Actually, I suspect MJ might...

By Benn on Friday, December 07, 2001 - 8:53 pm:

Actually, from the sounds of it, Machiko has "engaged" Morgan in much the same way. (I'm gonna be killed for that one.)

By Capt. Jerk from Star Trip on Friday, December 07, 2001 - 10:22 pm:

Well disengage, and report for duty!

By Mark Morgan on Saturday, December 08, 2001 - 10:48 am:

Ah, ha! See, honey, I'm not the only one who does that!

By Mike on Saturday, December 08, 2001 - 2:03 pm:

Ah well, most hes assume other posters are also hes and most shes assume other posters are also shes. Its the way the mind works :)

"Excuse me, but I'm you from the future."
"Oh. What are you doing here."
"I'm here to take you back to 1989 to make sure you don't get married."
"But I've never been married!"
"That's because you went back to 1989. Let's go."

Dear Spice-Thyme Continuum Person,

Can I use that bit of dialog to start off a time travel story (a comedic time travel story).

By Machiko Jenkins (Mjenkins) on Sunday, December 09, 2001 - 2:08 pm:

Well, last I checked, I was most assuredly a female.

What I meant by "a year between episodes" was that this one is scheduled to run on January 23, 2001, and the following one is scheduled for January 30, 2002. It was a joke based on a typo.

And yes, I prefer the term "betrothed." I'd speak in thees and thous if I could get away with it without getting weird looks...

By Merat on Sunday, December 09, 2001 - 2:30 pm:

Sorry about the confusion Machiko. I deal with students from England a lot so I dealt with you the same way that I deal with them when they complain about the computer listing a book as being checked out 12/01/01 and not being returned yet :)

By Chris Booton (Cbooton) on Sunday, December 09, 2001 - 6:51 pm:

I wish for short form dates they used the form of Jan-31-2002 (for example), that way we know which one os the month and which is the day and would avoid the confision of which is which. I personally prefer month-day-year as it's how people say it , for example "It's december 9 2001 (12-9-01)" it's rare for a person to say "It's the 9th of december 2001 (9-12-2001)" but some people do say it that way/

By Ed Watson on Wednesday, December 12, 2001 - 10:10 am:

Of course, many people in Europe say the date just like that (9th of December) so the day\month\year order seems natural to them.

Jeez, this is almost as bad as the time travel threads. Couldn't we just come up with a way to start using Star Dates? I understand they are MUCH less confusing.

By ScottN on Wednesday, December 12, 2001 - 12:20 pm:

I once owned a Star Trek calendar (late '70s) that used stardates as:

yymm.dd

By Las on Wednesday, December 12, 2001 - 1:33 pm:

I think Chris is absolutely right. It makes the most sense to have the month before the date in the month.

Especially these years (2001, 2002, 2003) with 01,02,03 popping up a lot.

By ScottN on Wednesday, December 12, 2001 - 2:01 pm:

Actually, using 4 digit dates, year-month-day makes for the best sorting (if you're a computer programmer!) :O

By Rene on Wednesday, December 26, 2001 - 2:02 pm:

Well, now it seems this episode will air on January 16th.

By Anonymous 3313 on Wednesday, December 26, 2001 - 7:44 pm:

Hey to jump into a message I know something of nothing about. The show is written by americans, on american network, about an american crew. (I did watch the show once by accident and thats what I thought they were. I didn't realize they were star trek.) So why not have the date the way it should be and the way it makes since.
Month Day Year.
Works for me.

By Rene on Wednesday, December 26, 2001 - 7:47 pm:

Er...we're talking about a website, not the creators of the show.
