Stevie Nicks first album in nine years. What took her so long? A good album, but at age 51, her voice is sounding a bit gravelly. If you like her, you will like this one. A little bit pop, a little bit country.
I really ought to get this. I'm halfway planning to see her in concert in August. This girl I met at the Pat Benatar show last Saturday, said she'd see me at the Stevie Nicks show. Unfortunately, she had her boyfriend (husband?) with her. Maybe it's nothing serious. (I can hope can't I?)
The Wild Heart and Bella Donna are Stevie's best solo albums.
Fleetwood Mac would like to regroup; Stevie is all for it. According to USA today, the weakest link is Christing Mc Vie, who apparently is not interested.
Why? Didn't they get rich off of the astronomical prices of the tickets on their last tour?
the weakest link is Christing Mc Vie, who apparently is not interested.
I would've figured it would have been Lindsay Buckingham.
According to USA Today, Stevie held back two songs from "Shangri-La" for a possible new Mac album. Christine McVie has other interests, and is reluctant to return. This disappoints me, as I always liked her songs, particularly "You Make Lovin' Fun." Let's keep up hope, guys.
Well, Adam, I've finally gotten this disc. I like it. While Stevie hasn't updated her sound, it's still a good album. Best tracks on it are "Trouble In Shangri-La", "Sorcerer" "Too Far From Texas", "That Made Me Stronger" and "Fall From Grace". A lot of famous women appear on this album: Sheryl Crow (she's all over this one!), Macy Gray, Sarah McLachlan and Natalie Maines from the Dixie Chicks. Sort of like it's Stevie's own private Lilith Fair.
Speaking of holding back material, I noticed how old some of the cuts on Shangri-La are. "Candlebright" dates back to 1970, "Sorcerer" to `72 and "Planets of the Universe" to `79.
Still it's a good album. As good as Bella Donna or The Wild Heart. The one one drawback is that it sounds like it was made back then.
I like the "sounds like it was made back then" feel, it brings me back to the good old days.
Stevie is on tour now, and the ticket prices here in NYC are outrageous-a top price of almost $125.
Top price here in Dallas was $75. I passed on it. I've seen her twice already. That's good enough for me.
She and Sheryl Crow were on Leno last night. Did anyone see it? I missed it myself.
I am going out on a limb here, but I will say that "Sorcerer" is the best song of the year. Great beat, super vocals by Stevie.
And yet, it's the oldest song on the album, dating back to 1972. And, I agree, it is an excellent track.
Fleetwood Mac released "Say You Will" in 2003, without the participation of Christine McVie as a full member, though she is credited as an "additional performer."
Oh - I did see Stevie Nicks last year; she was touring with Don Henley. We saw them at Jones Beach Theater on a mid-June night, and we literally froze our butts off, due to the cold wind coming in over the water. As soon as me and my girlfriend got back to the car, we put the heat on full blast. I wasn't that cold when I saw Alanis Morrissette and the Barenaked Ladies in July, 2004, and I didn't need a jacket then. Nevertheless, the next time I go there, I'll bring a sweatshirt or a jacket, no matter what time of year it is.
Stevie has disappointed me a bit. I heard today that she has a new CD coming out. But, it's another compilation, titled "Crystal Visions." She's done two solo and two Fleetwood Mac albums since her last compilation, "Timespace" in 1991 (which contained no Mac songs, by the way; the new CD has three.) Come on, Stevie, it's been six years. When do we get some new stuff?
Stevie finally has a new CD coming out. Next Tuesday (5/3), in fact. It's titled In Your Dreams, and I hope it's worth the decade-long wait.
