Get a new singer or disband?

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Music: Music Catch-Basin: Get a new singer or disband?

This discussion is for groups that have gone through or are going through a change of singers. What are your thoughts and opinions on it?

For instance, Van Halen has gone through 3 singers, and I believe they are still looking for another one.

Anthrax, one of the best metal bands EVER, went through a change of singers, and Motley Crue did for a while (before they all regained their senses).

Chris Cornell, former lead singer of Soundgarden, is joining Rage Against the Machine, but the group will have a new name.

Do you think these groups were or will be better off with the change of singers, or should they just have disbanded? And why?

My opinions:

Anthrax should have disbanded, because the new guy was awful. Same for Crue, until they reconciled with Vince Neil. Vam Halen should just go intrumental, or one of the original members should take over the lead mic!

As for RATM, I'll have to wait until I hear them, but I just can't see Chris Cornell singing political-based songs.

(I hope Brian Webber reads this. I want his opinion on RATM.)

BF; Most songs to come from the Seattle rock bands were political in one way or another. Pearl Jam was just more obvious (remember that concert when Vedder took out a magic marker and wrote pRO-cHOICE ON HIS ARM? Oops. Cap lOck accidnet.).

I like the bands BF mentioned, and I have to admit I like another group that has gone through a change: Destiny's Child. They booted singers LaTavia and LaToya, and got Michelle and Farrah. They recently dumped Farrah, though. All three ousted girls are suing. The lead singer, Beyonce, I cannot stand. She's a spotlight-greedy...[family board...won't get into it]. She is the 'lead singer,' so the other girls hardly ever get to sing, except on the new album, "Survivor." The title track is God-awful, but I haven't bought it yet, so I don't know about the other songs.

Anyways...I like them, but they've gone through a lot of changes.

I agree with you about Destiny's Child, which I meant to mention but forgot to. Kelly and Michelle actually get to sing some on their new single, "Bootylicious", but guess who gets most of the screen time in the video? (Michelle's not that great a singer, from what I can tell, but Kelly is)

I didn't know Farrah was fired. I heard she had quit because she didn't want to tour.

Incidentally, I saw an interview with LaTavia and LaToya on tv (BET, I think. I'm white, but I watch it occasionally. Rarely, but occasionally), and do you know how they found out that they had been fired? They saw the video for "Say My Name" on tv for the first time! Beyonce's father is the group's manager (that's the big problem), and neither he or Beyonce had the guts to tell them that they were fired!

Yes, that's the problem. Matthew Knowles, aka Big Daddy Svengali, and little Princess Beyonce were mad for some reason--the girls probably wanting some screen time--and were promptly booted.

And Farrah missed a couple shows because of the flu bug, and was kicked to the curb.

READ THE FAQ FIRST, or you won't understand it. And read one or two stories before Destiny's Child one.
