The Doors' Complete Studio Recordings

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Music: Boxed Sets: The Doors' Complete Studio Recordings

This set contains re-issues of The Doors, Strange Days, Waiting For The Sun, The Soft Parade, Morrison Hotel, and LA Woman; plus the Essential Rarities compilation. Aside from the obvious goodies (I mean, it's The Doors!), all the CDs are packaged in cool reproductions of the LP covers right down to the inner sleeves!

We've discussed elsewhere on this board how the title Complete Studio Recordings is incorrect and slightly misleading. In addition to known Morrison Doors studio recordings which do not appear in this set, both post-Morrison albums, Other Voices and Full Circle, are not included. I realize that most fans feel that these albums blow goats and that it is not really the Doors without Morrison, but those albums were released under the Doors name, and so technically they are Doors studio recordings.

I, for one, have the Russian import "Other Voices/Full Circle" CD, and it think it's pretty good.

Not quite up to "L.A. Woman" standards, of course, but Ray Manzarek, besides being an excellent organist/keyboardist, is also a decent vocalist in his own right. He's no better, but no worse than Jim, OK? Same with Robbie Krieger, he sang lead on a few tracks, too.

So, I am NOT one of the Doors fans who think that the two Morrison-less albums are really bad, or perform a certain act on a farm animal. I think that they're just fine. They are entertaining to listen to, just like the rest of the Doors stuff. And I will leave it at that!
