Rhino's Have A Nice Decade

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Music: Boxed Sets: Rhino's Have A Nice Decade

This is a collection of 7 CDs which I guess is the best of the 25 volumes they sell individually as "Have A Nice Day", of nuthin' but 70s music.

I switched a buddy of mine onto that series (Have A Nice Day). He now has most of them. It's scary how many really embarrassing songs came out of the Seventies, ain't it? What's more frightening is how many of them I really, really like.

Does the box set have anything on that's not available on the, what, 24 disc series?

Some of the best pop/rock music came from the 70s, but so did the worst...

Well, Benn, as I said there are 25 volumes, at least that Rhino lists, but I dunno what all's on the box set that may or may not be on the individual volumes since I don't have any of them or the box set...yet. I assume that every single song on the box set is from each or most of the volumes only, with none that aren't. That to me would be kinda ridiculous if they did that, although I suppose it could be possible. Even with 25 volumes with give or take 20 songs each (I'm guessing) there are doubtless still plenty of songs that were left out.

Yes, the 70s had plenty of awful songs, as well as its share of the greatest. This past weekend I saw VH1's repeat of its "Behind The Music" on 1975 (though I missed it before) and PJ O'Rourke, from Rolling Stone, talked about rockers then getting rich and doing what people do when they get rich: they dress badly, and that's certainly true of pretty much most or all singers back then. Just look at clips from 70s variety shows and what singers wore. Then again look at what everyone else wore then, too. About the only fashions I really liked from the 70s were bell bottom pants and jeans (it was practically the law back then that you had to wear them), the extremely skimpy bikinis and the Farrah hairdo (I remember my sister calling a salon asking them if they did it). Well, any feathered style that attractive girls wore, really. I like some of the bell bottoms out now. They look nicer than the ones we had. Love it or hate it, one thing we can all agree on about fashion is that it's cyclical, and recyclical, always coming back at some point or other, then fading away again.
