Does anyone know where I might be able to find the sheet music for The Chordettes' Mr Sandman online?

By Derf on Saturday, June 30, 2001 - 7:34 am:

This link, Guitar Tablature.ca will get you to a site to buy complete sheet music online. If you are interested in just the lyrics, try Lyrics World. I could not find a site with lyrics plus guitar chords. (free OR buy online)
Hope that helps.

I'm about to start the final year of a music degree and need a good topic for my research paper, based on any aspect of music. Any suggestions?

By Anon E. Mous on Tuesday, July 03, 2001 - 8:50 pm:

Suggestions:

1. History of the Punk movement.

2. Comparisons of common themes in various music styles.

3. Arguing why Heavy Metal isn't necessarily Satanic. (I saw a show once talking about that, and they did a poll. Most Satanists listen to Classical music!)

4. A thesis about Woodstock (the original, that is).

By Matthew Patterson (Mpatterson) on Tuesday, July 03, 2001 - 9:02 pm:

Compare and contrast the development of jazz music and rap "music." (The quotation marks are necessary for modern rap, though they weren't always.)

Years ago when Run DMC (I think that was their name) was up for a Grammy I remember some comedian saying they were they could be the first all black group that didn't sing, dance, or play instruments to win a Grammy. (Yeah, I know, Run DMC is old school. Did I tell you about going to school barefoot in a blizzard?:))

By Sophie Hawksworth on Saturday, June 01, 2002 - 8:09 am:

Yesterday at a club I heard a tune that incorporated Picard's Lucutus speech from the end of Best of Both Worlds, Part 1. Anyone know what that track was?

I'm guessing the genre was Techno, although I'm not an expert that area.

By Snickerdoodle on Saturday, June 01, 2002 - 7:20 pm:

Well, not too sure about that, Sophie, but I found a couple sites that might point the right way. Sorry for the cheap linking..

Thanks for looking. I really appreciate the effort. I'm not sure that was it, but it was similar to that. In hindsight I guess there a lots of track that sample things like this.

By KAM on Sunday, January 12, 2003 - 7:54 am:

Every now & then I get this song running through my head. The chorus is "Love me, love me, say that you love me" but I can't think of who sings it. I don't mind the song, but not knowing who did it is driving me crazy.

By kerriem on Sunday, January 12, 2003 - 7:41 pm:

Dang, KAM, that's the chorus to about half of all the love songs ever written. Can you give us a few more clues re: genre, male singer/female/band, etc? :)

By My So-Called Sven of Nine on Monday, January 13, 2003 - 1:26 am:

I believe the song you're looking for is "Lovefool", the breakthrough single by the Cardigans. It was on the soundtrack to Baz Luhrman's version of "Romeo and Juliet".

By The First Band on Sven of Nine on Monday, January 13, 2003 - 1:31 am:

The chorus goes something like this:

(Love me love me)
Say that you love me
(Fool me fool me)
Go on and fool me
(Love me love me)
Pretend that you love me
(Leave me leave me)
Just say that you need me
So I cry,
and I beg for you to...
(Love me love me)
Say that you love me
(Leave me leave me)
Just say that you need me
I can't care 'bout anything but you...

By KAM on Monday, January 13, 2003 - 4:23 am:

That's it Sven, thanks.

I would have put more lyrics, kerriem, but I wasn't sure if I was remembering the rest of them correctly. I did think of mentioning that the singer has a funny way of pronouncing "Can't", but I wasn't sure how to describe it.

By Sven of Immanuel Kant on Monday, January 13, 2003 - 11:29 am:

KAM, ever see that episode of "I'm Alan Partridge" entitled 'The Colour of Alan' (it was from the last series) where a South African rep for a fireplace company asks Alan to do a spectacular sales conference? I'm referring to the bit when the rep becomes angry at Alan's suggestion for the show, and tells Alan "YOU CAN'T!!". :O

By KAM on Tuesday, January 14, 2003 - 5:28 am:

Nope. Never even heard of the show. (I'm in the USA.)

By Brian Webber on Saturday, March 01, 2003 - 11:06 pm:

OK, so here's the set-up. There was this haunting and beautiful rendetion fo the song Over The Rainbow from the Wizard of Oz does by some guy who died a few years back on Anothony Edward's last ep of ER. Problem? I don't the name of the Artist, Album, and the label that carried the album (sometiems knowing the label helps when searching used CD stores). Can anyone lend a hand? Please e-mail the answer with Over The Rainbow-ER as the Subject. My addy is webber_brian@hotmail.NOSPAM.com (make sure to remove the NOSPAM part first).

By Benn on Sunday, March 02, 2003 - 11:40 am:

Brian, I've sent you an email with what I think is the name of the guy you're looking for. Enjoy!

np - Lifes Rich Pageant - R.E.M.

By Brian Webber on Sunday, March 02, 2003 - 1:16 pm:

Thank you so much. I never really liked the movie or that song, but this guy's version was just, wow, you know?

By Benn on Sunday, March 02, 2003 - 1:38 pm:

No problem, Brian. I've cover versions of songs I'm not too crazy about that blew the original version away, too.

np - "Sweet Home Chicago (live)" - Buddy Guy, Eric Clapton, Robert Cray, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Jimmy Vaughan

By Sparrow47 on Sunday, March 02, 2003 - 3:04 pm:

I've a somewhat question that's somewhat similar to Benn's. Has anyone seen (and heard) the Volkswagen commercial for the convertible Beetle that shows the guy who works in the office? The commercial is all about his repetetive life and how things are unchanging- until he sees the car, that is. The song that plays is really catchy (unfortunatley I can't quote any lyrics to it) and I was wondering if anyone knew if it was an actual song, not to mention who it was by and what its name is. Any ideas?

By Benn on Sunday, March 02, 2003 - 3:49 pm:

I think the song you're talking about is "Mr. Blue Sky" by the Electric Light Orchestra.

np - Pretty & Twisted - Pretty & Twisted

By Sparrow47 on Sunday, March 02, 2003 - 6:10 pm:

That would make sense, as "Hey there Mr. Blue Sky" is part of the lyrics (okay, so I remembered that bit).

One of the first times I heard the commercial I ended up having to vehemently deny that the song was by The Beatles, as one of my friends kept attempting to claim.

By Benn on Sunday, March 02, 2003 - 6:24 pm:

Well, Jeff Lynne does have a bit of a musical Beatles fetish. I remember, back in the days, one DJ making this comment about ELO's "Don't Bring Me Down": "I think those boys were listening to some Beatles before they came up with that one." Of course, "Don't Bring Me Down"'s opening drumbeats are the same as the ones used in the Beatles' "Sgt. Pepper's Reprise". They just have a different tempo. Then there's the song "Shangri-La" in which Jeff sings "My Shangri-La has gone away/Faded like the Beatles on 'Hey Jude'."

np - Blue Train - John Coltrane

By Influx on Monday, March 03, 2003 - 7:12 am:

Brian, I missed the that episode of ER, but considering your request, and that it took place in Hawaii, I think the singer's name is Israel (something very long and Hawaiian). I'll check my CD at home if you still need the info.

By Benn on Monday, March 03, 2003 - 10:27 am:

You're on the right track, Influx. I've already sent Brian the information. I had to dig around to find out when Anthony Edward's last season was. Then I consulted a website devoted to the series that contained an episode guide. Fortunately, I picked the right website. The last name of the singer was Kamakawiwo'ole.

By Brian Webber on Tuesday, March 18, 2003 - 1:51 pm:

Need some help in the TV area again. Recently a fairly nice song was featured in a Third Watch two-parter, and I think on another NBC show as well, though which one escapes me (probably eitehr ER or Crossing Jordan). I don't know much about the song, except for one line in the chorus that goes The dreams in which I'm dying are the best I ever had. NBC does not have a section that lists songs featured on shows the way the WB does (for Smallville and Charmed at least), so I've been unable to find out what song this is. Even Sax Russle who usally lists artists and albums on the C&J board doesn't know. Can anyone help, maybe with a lyric search? Just post it here.

By ScottN on Tuesday, March 18, 2003 - 2:24 pm:

Based on Adam's post in "overplayed songs", I'd bet it's "Clocks".

By Benn on Tuesday, March 18, 2003 - 2:37 pm:

No, it's not "Clocks". Here are the lyrics to "Clock":

"Clocks"

"The lights go out and I can't be saved
Tides that I tried to swim against
Have brought me down upon my knees
Oh I beg, I beg and plead singing

"Come out of things unsaid
Shoot an apple off my head and a
Trouble that cant be named
A tiger's waiting to be tamed singing

"You are
You are

"Confusion never stops
Closing walls and ticking clocks
Gonna come back and take you home
I could not stop that you now know singing

"Come out upon my seas,
Cursed missed opportunities
Am I a part of the cure
Or am I part of the disease, singing

"You are, you are, you are
You are, you are, you are

"And nothing else compares
And nothing else compares
And nothing else compares

"You are
You are

"Home, home where I wanted to go
Home, home where I wanted to go
Home, home where I wanted to go
Home, home where I wanted to go"

I'd have to dig around, probably using the same method I used for that "Over the Rainbow" version you sought before I can tell you the name of the song and who did it, Brian. If I can.

By Benn on Tuesday, March 18, 2003 - 3:31 pm:

Mmm. Okay, if you're talking about eps from this season, Brian, there have only been three two part episodes of Third Watch: "Judgment Day pts. 1 and 2", "Crime and Punishment pts. 1 and 2" and "Collateral Damage pts. 1 and 2". Of them, only "Collateral Damage" has any songs listed. The songs it lists are "Youth of the Nation" by P.O.D. and "Mad World" by Michael Andrews, featuring Gary Jules. The lyrics to "Youth of the Nation" do not match the lyric you provide (didn't think it would, either). I couldn't find the lyrics to the Michael Andrews song, so perhaps that's the one you're referring to?

"Clock", incidentally, appeared in the January 6th ep, "Second Chances". It was not a two-part episode, obviously.

To see the episode guide for this season (so far), go to http://www.tvtome.com/ThirdWatch/season4.html

Oh, and I checked the lyrics to all the songs but the Michael Andrews and Patsy Cline songs. Hope that helped Brian, but I don't know that it did.

np - Led Zeppelin III, aka "The Brown Bomber" - Led Zeppelin

By Sven of Nineteen on Tuesday, March 18, 2003 - 7:01 pm:

I don't know much about the song, except for one line in the chorus that goes "The dreams in which I'm dying are the best I ever had."

It sounds like "Mad World", as released as a single by Tears For Fears several years ago.

By Influx on Wednesday, March 19, 2003 - 8:02 am:

I'm in the middle of converting my vinyl LP's to CD. (OK, so that dates me somewhat!) I have an extended-play single of Roxette's Dangerous, and on the other side is a song called "I Could Never Give You Up". It sounds like the theme song for some WB show or something. Can anyone place that one for me?

By Benn on Friday, March 21, 2003 - 8:48 pm:

Are you asking what TV show it was used for, Influx? The only thing I could find on any Roxette sites was this FAQ dealing with movie soundtracks: http://www.lebedev.ru/roxette/faq.htm#soundtracks There doesn't seem to be anything listed about Roxette's "Dangerous" being used on a WB show. Or have I misunderstood your question?

np - Heaven Forbid - Blue Oyster Cult (Happy birthday to B.O.C.'s bass guitarist, Danny Miranda!)

By Brian Webber on Sunday, March 23, 2003 - 12:17 am:

Footnote: That 'other TV show' I'd thought I'd heard the song Mad World in, wasn't a TV show at all, but actually I heard it in the movie Donnie Darko.

Just thought I'd mention it.

By Sophie on Saturday, April 12, 2003 - 9:42 am:

A question possibly for Brits only.

In the TV advert for holidays in Ireland, where the guy is running along the beach and horses come up behind him and run either side, what is the music, please?

By Keith Alan Morgan (Kmorgan) on Sunday, July 28, 2013 - 3:00 am:

Many years ago, in the '70s or '80s I heard a song on a country station. I thought the DJ said it was by the Bellamy Brothers, but online searches have failed to bring up anything similar by them. Online lyric search sites also come up blank.

Here's what I can remember of the lyrics.

Oh, there you are
all alone at the bar
Heaven knows you're something to see
And so I say hi
try out my best lie
You cross your long legs and smile back at me
you think I'm sweet
You think I'm nice
but honey I must have you fooled
For I know darned well
that they would put me in jail
for what I been thinkin' 'bout you
I would get twenty years
for what's going on here
running 'round inside of my head
if society knew
what I'm doing to you
I know they'd make me pay my debt

You'd think with all those lines to choose from, some lyric search site somewhere could have told me what the song is and who sang it, wouldn't you?

Does anyone know this song?

Has anyone besides me even heard it?

By Keith Alan Morgan (Kmorgan) on Thursday, August 27, 2015 - 5:42 am:

FINALLY found it!

It is the Bellamy Brothers and the song is titled They Could Put Me In Jail.

I didn't remember the lyrics exactly, but I came very, very close.

By Butch Brookshier (Butchb) on Saturday, August 29, 2015 - 5:49 pm:

Yay! That kind of thing is so frustrating.
