Sheryl Crow

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Music: Misc. Artists/Bands: Sheryl Crow
By Adam Bomb on Friday, May 31, 2002 - 7:42 am:

Ms. Crow was in New York yesterday, and gave a free concert in Battery Park. Prior to the show, she was signing autographs at J&R Music World. She autographed my booklet for "Tuesday Night Music Club," and I thanked her for "No One Said It Would Be Easy." The show really rocked. Sheryl was in top form, and played some of my faves, such as "All I Wanna Do" and "C'mon, C'mon". I am a fan for life. SHERYL CROW RULES!

By Adam Bomb on Tuesday, January 21, 2003 - 12:07 pm:

Check out the Rolling Stones concert from Madison Square Garden. HBO ran it live on 1/18/03, and will repeat it several more times in the next month. Sheryl Crow joins Mick and the Boys for Honky Tonk Women in the latter half of the show.

By Adam Bomb on Sunday, March 07, 2004 - 10:22 pm:

Sheryl appeared on the March 2 episode of One Tree Hill to sing "The First Cut Is The Deepest." Realizing she probably wouldn't show up until the last five minutes, I didn't tune in until then, and I missed the latest in teen angst. (My instincts were correct.) She did a good job on the song, although the arrangements were sparser than the album cut.

By Adam Bomb on Friday, November 19, 2004 - 1:23 pm:

Unfortunately, Ms. Crow is now the victim of the unwanted advances of a stalker, in this case, a former U.S. Navy man. More here.

By Adam Bomb on Tuesday, November 23, 2004 - 7:42 am:

Ms. Crow testified yesterday, in the trial of her alleged stalker, former Navy SEAL Ambrose Kappos. More on that here.

By Adam Bomb on Wednesday, December 01, 2004 - 8:04 am:

Kappos was acquitted of stalking and burglary yesterday, despite what I consider overwhelming evidence against him. What drug(s) did that jury take before and/or during deliberations? More on that here.

By Adam Bomb on Tuesday, January 04, 2005 - 9:25 am:

According to the local newspaper AM New York, Sheryl will release two albums in 2005. One pop, one of art rock. I can't wait for the CD's, and for the inevitable tour.

By Adam Bomb on Monday, August 01, 2005 - 9:34 am:

Sheryl's newest release, Wildflower, is scheduled to be in stores on September 27. I hope this record isn't full of sappy love songs about Lance Armstrong, especially since her relationship with him began after the release of C'mon, C'mon.

By Adam Bomb on Wednesday, September 07, 2005 - 10:01 am:

Cover art for "Wildflower."
The CD will be released in both a standard edition, and a deluxe edition, with a bonus DVD.

By Adam Bomb on Wednesday, September 28, 2005 - 8:00 am:

And, as a big fan, I (of course) got the deluxe edition. I was disappointed that the CD only runs 46 minutes; the new Rolling Stones CD "A Bigger Bang" runs 64 minutes. (A CD can fit close to 80 minutes of music.) "Letter To God" is probably the best song. "Good Is Good" is a good song, with a terrible title (what were you thinking, Sheryl?)

By Adam Bomb on Monday, November 07, 2005 - 12:52 pm:

Sheryl will perform at the halftime show at the Dallas Cowboys game on Thanksgiving Day. More here.

By Adam Bomb on Thursday, November 17, 2005 - 2:18 pm:

Sheryl performed "Ring Of Fire" last night, on CBS' Johnny Cash Tribute. As a big fan, I regret to say this, but she sucked big time. In place of the mariachi riff, Sheryl used a string accompaniment. Sorry, no can do. As "Ring Of Fire" is, IMHO, Johnny Cash's best song, no covers should be allowed. Ever.

By Benn on Thursday, November 17, 2005 - 2:22 pm:

I dunno. Social Distortion did a kickass cover of the song.

np - Meredith Brooks - Meredith Brooks

{"Music is forever." - Paul Simon

By Adam Bomb on Wednesday, February 08, 2006 - 7:43 am:

Sheryl and Lance Armstrong are kaput. They announced the end of their relationship over the weekend. More here (scroll down.)

I wonder how if this will change how she feels about her most recent CD Wildflower, since the songs were inspired by her love for Lance. Maybe she could put out another CD, dealing with the breakup. Heck, Frank Sinatra did his best work when he was in sheer complete misery over his breakup with Ava Gardner.

By Adam Bomb on Tuesday, March 14, 2006 - 12:12 pm:

Sheryl Crow recently underwent minimally invasive surgery to treat her breast cancer, and will receive radiation treatment as well. Her U.S. tour was postponed as a result.

By Adam Bomb on Saturday, March 25, 2006 - 12:14 am:

Subaru is using "Every Day Is A Winding Road" in their latest ad campaign. I'm surprised that Ford doesn't use "Steve McQueen" in its campaign for the Mustang. Especially since Sheryl drove a '67 'Stang in the video for that song.

By Adam Bomb on Friday, October 06, 2006 - 10:34 am:

Sheryl has been declared cancer free. More here.

By Benn on Friday, October 06, 2006 - 10:50 am:

Congratulations, Sheryl!

By Adam Bomb on Thursday, January 11, 2007 - 7:49 am:

As much as Sheryl rules, she does have some minuses. Her title song for the 1997 James Bond flick, Tomorrow Never Dies, is definitely one of the weaker Bond themes. You can listen to a sample here.

By Adam Bomb on Thursday, May 17, 2007 - 2:25 pm:

Sheryl recently announced on her website that she's adopted a two week old boy. Now, I don't deny her her right to adopt a child, I do wish her well, and I certainly believe she was more sincere than Madonna was in regard to their respective adoptions. But, it's sickening that average people, who can't have children on their own, wait years to adopt (and maybe never do), while rich and famous celebrities can get what they want when they want. Me, I'll never have more children - naturally, adoptive or whatever.

By Adam Bomb on Monday, November 19, 2007 - 8:38 am:

Sheryl has a new album, titled Detours, set for release 2/5/08. She also will make an appearance on Ellen DeGeneres' TBS variety special tonight. Hey Sheryl and Ellen - Didn't anyone tell you that variety shows are dead!! There hasn't been a successful one since The Carol Burnett Show went off the air in 1978. (Anyone remember Pink Lady and Jeff?) Alright, this special is probably a one-shot, that I doubt will go to a series. Besides, Ellen is kinda busy with her daily talk show. More on the album here.

By Adam Bomb on Tuesday, November 20, 2007 - 12:02 pm:

Sheryl was on in the last five minutes of Ellen's Really Big Show. As I suspected, so there was (thankfully) no need to watch the other 85. And, the song she performed (supposedly from her upcoming album) was awful. I don't know the title (it's not specified on her web site), but it's really, really bad.

By Adam Bomb on Thursday, February 07, 2008 - 8:29 am:

Sheryl appeared last night, and will also appear tonight, at The Fillmore at Irving Plaza in New York City. I wanted to go, but I didn't relish spending $43.50 per ticket for standing room (there are no seats for the show.) My girlfriend has a bit of a bum leg, and was not too enthused about standing for 90 or so minutes. So that was that.
I got the new CD Detours, and I'm about a third of the way through. It's not half bad.

By Benn on Monday, March 17, 2008 - 8:39 am:

Thought Adam Bomb would be interested in hearing this bit of news.

By Adam Bomb on Wednesday, April 09, 2008 - 2:02 pm:

Hey, thanks. Knew absolutely nothing about that. Hope it does come to pass, although Mac has suffered without Christine McVie.

Sheryl appeared on Dancing With The Stars last night. I saw her perform "All I Wanna Do," but she was a bit unenthusiastic about it, almost like she's tired of performing the song. She does have other songs in her repertoire, so she doesn't have to do that one endlessly. Maybe she could have done the theme from Tomorrow Never Dies...

By Benn on Thursday, April 10, 2008 - 11:30 am:

Sheryl's going to have to get used to that. Many, if not most, recording acts that tour will always have that one song the audience expects to hear in concert. The Moody Blues will always have to perform "Nights In White Satin" to satisfy its fans. Blue Oyster Cult has "(Don't Fear) The Reaper". Cheap Trick, "Surrender". Fleetwood Mac, "Don't Stop". KISS, "Rock and Roll All Nite". And so on. Ms. Crow is just going to have to accept that "All I Wanna Do" is her signature song and learn to love it and play it with the same enthusiasm every time she puts on a concert. (And that's something she should've learned to do years ago.)

By Adam Bomb on Monday, April 28, 2008 - 11:44 am:

Sheryl and Lance Armstrong are kaput...
Not only that, she all but burns him at the stake in the song "Diamond Ring," from Detours. Try this to see if I'm right.

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Friday, December 04, 2009 - 11:00 am:

Sheryl's debut album, 1992's Tuesday Night Music Club, has been re-issued in a three-disc (2 CD; 1 DVD) package. At a really stiff price; J&R wants $28 bucks for it. It does have four unreleased tracks. Maybe I'll hint at it for a Christmas present...

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Saturday, July 24, 2010 - 7:47 am:

Sheryl has released another new album, titled 100 Miles From Memphis. It's a so-so collection of originals and soul covers. She really botches her cover of Terence Trent D'Arby's "Sign Your Name". It's actually worse than "Tomorrow Never Dies". My advice - go back to what you do best, Sheryl.

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Monday, June 04, 2012 - 11:17 am:

There are some new commercials for Cheerios in which a female sings "The one and only Cheerios" at the end. The voice has to be Sheryl Crow's. Maybe 100 Miles From Memphis sold so poorly that she needs to do ads. More than likely, General Mills made Ms. Crow an offer she couldn't refuse.
