"The Parker Tapes" - CassetteBoy

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Music: Comedy Albums: "The Parker Tapes" - CassetteBoy

I'm not sure if this belongs under "comedy" or "dance" as it contains elements of both. I bought this under the "dance" section of my store, but I think it's more "comedy".

This hour-long album released last year takes sound sampling and bad taste to their extremes. Seven years worth of samples from movies, (mostly British) TV, adverts, songs, vocal soundbites, etc. cobbled together and then re-cut up again to make a bizarre but frequently hilarious soundscape of satire, humour, excellent comic timing, and just plain fun, some of which you can even dance to. Musically it's very uneven, but I doubt that making music was its aim.

Highlights include:
Jeremy Paxman (or is it John Humphrys?) declaring Bill Gates as "part of the Forces of Darkness".
A rather different take on jungle warfare courtesy of re-mixing and cutting-up "Camouflage" by Stan Ridgway (so now you know where my obsession with this particular performer began :O).
David Bowie describing his bowel habits courtesy of "Space Oddity" being craftily chopped up.
Jamie Oliver (cheeky Cockney celebrity chef) going through "the old" motions.
Clarissa Dickson Wright and Jennifer Paterson (a.k.a The Two Fat Ladies - more celebrity chefs) getting out their impressive array of ingredients for a big cook-out.
The Verve (moody 90s rock band) claiming that "The Drugs DO Work."
Tony Blair declaring that the highlight of the election campaign was "watching 'The Professionals' on TV" before announcing his plans to declare war on all 11-year-olds in the country.
And, best of all, the aptly-titled "Fly Me To New York" - I won't spoil it for you because it's so inventive (I was going to say "clever" but most of you will disagree) and so funny you'll cry.

If you're in the mood for a bit of silliness, try out this album before all the copies are taken away!

(Mind you, if you think this stuff is offensive, you should hear some of their non-album "singles" which deal with people such as Myra Hindley and Princess Diana.)
