Fall Music Festival, 2003
By Hannah F., West Wing Moderator (Cynicalchick) on Saturday, November 08, 2003 - 2:49 pm:11/7/03. Fall Music Festival 2003, Montevallo, Alabama.
Feat. Andrew WK, Hoobastank, Jump Little Children, and Die Trying.
Evening off on a slightly sour note. I lost my sweatshirt, and my friend & I left 2 hours early so I could get one on the way at the bookstore, and get a camera. Closed. .
I expected some chairs. The stage is at the top of an unsmooth hill. . Die Trying is warming up (why the do I keep spelling them 'Dy ...'?).
Come on, you warm up the crowd by playing RAP cds?!!
*I'm at the front of the stage, in the center*
Dear Christ, I think they're nu-metalish. And teen boys. The bassist rocks, though.
Christ, this rapper SAMPLED "Time After Time." What the holy ? Now TIMBERLAKE? Will someone please shoot me?
Die Trying
(I wrote this in my book as 'Die Little Children'...heheh. Oopsie)
Initial impression: okay.
Sounds like Chevelle, but..not.
I don't know where it went wrong, but quite frankly, that sucked. I liked some of it, but the rest was just baad.
Jump Little Children
Singer: guitar (electric and acoustic)
Bassist: bass guitar, cello, violin
Guitarist: guitar, accordion, harmonica
Drummer: three guesses
And one other....hmm.
Wow. That's all. Just wow. Indie rock, but not. Just...cooler.
Look online for "When You Fall Apart" and "Cathedrals."
Andrew WK
They play a little metal to rile the crowd. The roadies are fuckin' slow. Now I'm at the front of the stage, not a foot from the AWK fanatics. The band starts, and I'm continually trampled, elbowed, and stomped. *pops Tylenol* Twas fun.
These guys have a new fan. They're real crowd-friendly. Andy, the singer *cute*, squirted water on the crowd occasionally. At the end, they pulled about 15 fans onstage (there was a wall and 10 feet of space between the crowd and the stage).
Hoobastank
WOW. They may sound nu-metalish, but they blew me away.
They're like Rammstein--heavy guitar, big on drums. I can hardly hear the singer, but who cares? He's pretty.
"Meet the Band"
I get the Hoobastank singer's autograph. Rowr. He's sweet.
I get in line for Andrew WK. I think the man is writing his life story for everyone. Lord. So I run over about 150 feet, and get *everyone's* John Hancocks. The Hoobastank bassist likes my Pink Floyd shirt! Weee!
So I *finally* meet Andy. Hott. REALLY nice guy, answered my questions. They're Rammstein fans! Andy met Richard (lead guitarist); apparently, he's a real nice guy.
So look online for shows, because DUDE!
