Questions, trivia about music & artists that don't have their own boards (and probably would be too small if they did)...post 'em here.
General question: Has anybody (besides me) ever heard of Al Jolsen? I've talked with a lot of people at work, at they don't have a clue as to who this is.
Personal note: My grandfather, Larry Lang Sr., wrote two songs that made it 78 RPM & 45 RPM
Titles:
"My Valentine (Arrived Just in Time)"
and
"Let Us Waltz As We Say Goodnight"
Does anyone besides me have these songs?
I have a Jolson disc, John. He was okay. My problem with him is that he's kinda the same as Pat Boone - an artist who's success is dependent upon black artists. In Boone's case, it was covering black artists (and to a degree, ripping them off). Jolson's act was based on him pretending he was black. He's nowhere near my favorite jazz artist.
BTW, John, I did set up a board - The Grand Staff - for miscellaneous Muisc topics.
"Music is a world within itself and a language we all understand." - Stevie Wonder
I musta overlooked that one. Thanx.
Dear Moderator: Could you please move all of these posts to "The Grand Staff"? Thanx.
Y'know, after being played for an hour, we're all gonna hate this song. If we didn't already.
Bob Dylan recently sold his entire catalog of songs to Universal Music, for a reported nine figure amount. This article says that David Crosby will also sell his catalog of songs, as I guess he needs the money. Crosby says that he has a family and a mortgage. What? Didn't he put aside anything in his fifty-plus year career? (Crosby is now 79.) Or, did it all go up his nose? (The linked article says that other artists, such as Stevie Nicks, are selling their songs as well. Possibly to beat a proposed tax increase once Joe Biden becomes president.)
God must love the ones who sing out of tune the best because he lets them sing the loudest.
