He is one of my favorite rock/pop musicians of the 21st century so far, and I thought that I would create this thread to see if anyone else would comment about him.
I first heard his music back in 2002, when "No Such Thing" was playing on the radio. I then went out and bought the "Room For Squares" CD, and I really enjoyed most of the songs on it, like "Neon", "83", "3x5", "Love Song For No One", and "Back To You". He even won a Grammy for "Your Body Is A Wonderland", even though Blender magazine called it one of the "50 Worst Songs Of All Time". I didn't think it was THAT bad, although it's also not his best song, either!
Then came "Heavier Things" in 2003, which I bought after hearing "Bigger Than My Body" on the radio. I also like "Clarity", "Something's Missing", "New Deep", and "Home Life" from this album. Although I must say, I didn't really like the "Daughters" single.
In between these two studio CD's came the live album "Any Given Thursday", and I don't like it because there is too much audience noise, i.e. screaming teenage girls. I prefer Mayer's studio stuff better.
Then, with two other musicians I don't know, he formed a Trio, and released a live CD of blues covers. I haven't heard it yet.
And now there is "Continuum", with the single "Waiting On The World To Change", which I like. Unfortunatly, the only other song I like on this CD is "Belief". This album, in my opinion, is not as good as his first two.
And now about his personal life. I know three things:
1. He does not smoke, drink, or do drugs.
2. He dated Jennifer Love Hewitt.
3. He is friends with Sheryl Crow, with whom he toured with last year.
Well, that's about it. Since there are some Sheryl Crow fans on this board, maybe there are some other John Mayer fans besides me?
Update! John Mayer has won two more Grammy awards, one for the "Continuum" album, and the other for the "Waiting On The World To Change" single! I think that's cool!
But I sure wish he would dump that bleached-blonde bubblehead Jessica Simpson. I think that John could most certainly do a lot better than HER!
What do you guys think?
Another update, this time about the "Trio" CD: I listened to it, and it's pretty good, although I do prefer the "rock-pop" style of his regular studio albums.
What I wonder now is this. Will Mayer continue on the path of performing "mainstream" poppy-sounding rock music for the rest of his career, because it has proven successful for him? Or will he do more bluesy-rock songs and emulate the greats of that genre, such as Eric Clapton and B.B. King?
I suppose it remains to be seen. In any case, I wish him more success in his career!
(Also, it would be nice if he would just dump J.S. and start dating somebody who is more his intellectual equal, if you know what I'm saying!)
And now, John is dating Jennifer Aniston.
I have nothing to say about this, except that Jen is a real Cougar, yes, she is!
Oh, and John has a new live album too, but I don't want to buy it, I'm not into his live stuff. I'm waiting for his next regular album.
BTW, Blender magazine recently published photos of John in a "Borat"-style neaon green man-thong. Ewww, disgusting! Nobody should wear that!
But seeing as how his fans are mostly women, he was wearing it "for the ladies"!
Sheesh!
Well, now, John & Jen are no more! So bleeping what, I say.
I'm really getting tired of John's antics with the press, as well as his blatant, constant womanizing. He'd better come up with another great album of kick-ass rock music, or I'm just going to have to let him go. I.E. stop being a fan of his!
BTW, one of his arms is now COMPEETLY covered with tattoos! Arggghh, yucckkk, bleccchhhh, I say!
Oh well, I suppose that success has now really gone to his head. That's too bad!
What do you other posters think?
And now they're back together. Sheesh, celebrities these days. Can't count on 'em for nuthin'.
Meaning that John has been portrayed on Mad TV as a "celebrity poonhound". Yikes!
He's got some serious issues. That fame and fortune went right to his head!
What a shame!
Well, despite all the stuff I said last year about Mayer, "Battle Studies", his new album, is out now, and I will be giving it a listen.
More later!
...and BTW, John and Jenifer are no longer together. Quite frankly, I no longer care who he dates. That's just how it is!
The single "Half Of My Heart" from John's recent album is pretty good. I think that's Sheryl Crow doing the backing vocals.
I believe the two are just friends, I don't think that they've ever...you know.
Also, one of my favorite young actresses, Michelle Trachtenberg (she is such a cutie and a hottie) has been romantically linked to John recently. Like I said before, though, I no longer care who he dates. But I sure would like to date her, that's for sure!
Well, it's only been five years since I first posted about this guy. And it's come to this.
It's no longer about the music. This man is now officially a complete d-bag. He had dated and used, emotionally and sexually, numerous multiple women that did not deserve to be treated in that manner. I will not list all them, even the ones we know about, because I do not wish to drag their names through the mud by associating them with this man any longer.
I am done with him. I removed his music from my iPod and I disposed of the backup CDs. I cannot in clear conscience hear this man's music when I know what I know about him. That's all there is to it, it's as simple as that.
And seeing as how I am the only one on this site to have ever posted on this particular thread (as I originally created it in the first place) it is unlikely that anyone else besides me will ever even read this anyway.
This is how I feel. This is what it has come to. I am done with this guy. He no longer has many meaning in my mind.
And that's the way it is!
Plus, nowadays, he ALWAYS wears a hat! He's one of THOSE celebrities now. I wonder why?
I dislike celebrities who ALWAYS wear a hat! I dont know why, I just do!
Usually they wear them because....
...oh wait, you're done with the topic.
Never mind..
