The Wilson sisters (Ann and Nancy) have a new album out tomorrow, titled Red Velvet Car, and I'm cautiously optimistic. They haven't had a good album since Dog and Butterfly in 1978. (IMHO, of course). They changed course in the 1980's, from the harder rock songs (like "Barracuda" and "Crazy On You") and soft acoustic numbers ("Dog and Butterfly") that I adored to the sickeningly awful power ballads I abhor. (I can't listen to even a minute of "Alone", it's so bad.) Let's see if getting older makes them wiser. I sure hope so.
I still really like "These Dreams", which was a No. 1 Hit in 1985. But I also like the hard rock tracks they did, circa late 70's-early '80s.
Some of the so-called power ballads they did are, as you said Adam, sickeningly awful. I have to agree with you there. But I like songs from both of the major eras of this band.
Also, I think that "Magic Man" was the first song I ever heard by them, once I started listening to classic rock radio stations. And I like it!
I suspect that the sisters' last two albums have not sold very well, and also that maybe they have not managed their money from their 70s-80s heyday very well. That would have to be the only explanation as to why they sold one of their most popular songs ("What About Love") to a freaking Swiffer WetJet commercial!
At least that's how I see it!
