Guilmon Comes Alive

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Digimon: Digital Monsters: Season Three: Guilmon Comes Alive
Changes to the theme song : "To save and defend the world" instead of "to save the Digital World" and "Digi-Modify" instead of "Digivolve to Ultimate"/"Armor Digivolve".

In some strange dimension (the Digital World?), Calumon is being chased by a strange four-legged Digimon. Just then, a DarkTyranomon shows up and defeats the strange Digimon. But the explosion causes a strange rip that sucks Calumon in. He suddenly finds himself in the real world.

Meanwhile, a kid named Takato is playing the Digimon card game with his friends. They seem to use a strange device to calculate their scores. His friends leave for class and Takato starts to put the cards away when he suddenly finds a strange blue card. He tries to pass in his device, but something strange happens and the device starts to act all crazy. But Takato can't wait and leaves for class. But since he's late, the teacher makes his wait outside the hall. Takato takes the opportunity to draw his own Digimon, which he claims is very strong for a rookie. Stronger than Agumon.

Later on, he decides on a name for his Digimon, Guilmon. Meanwhile, in some strange room, two women pick up a strange pattern.

Takato returns to the cards and finds that his device has transformed into a Digivice. When he gets home, he tries to pass his Digimon drawing in the card, but it gets stuck. He puts it down, and then suddenly, the digivice is activated and analyzes his drawing and info on the Digimon. Suddenly, a Digiegg appears on the screen. This excites Takato very much.

That night, Takato has a vision. (He also talks in his sleep. "Guilmon", "Digi-Armor Energize"...Boy, this kid is obssessed with Digimon :) ). In it, he sees this girl (Rika) and her Digimon (Renamon) battle a Digimon. She seems to use strange cards in her battle against the Digimon.

The next day, none of his friends believe him. He then notices the digiegg cracked. Meanwhile, in the strange room, the two humans track some kind of "bio-emergence". A third person tells them that he wants to see what "this one does".

Meanwhile, Takato detects something on his digivice and tracks it. He eventually finds....Guilmon. He's real! But will his new Digimon destroy him?

Well...I liked it. Very interesting. And alot of references to the first two season.

Takato thinking Guilmon would be more powerful than Agumon. At one point, during the card game, one of the kids mentions Greymon digivolving to Metalgreymon, but another kid counters with Gabumon warp-digivolving. When Takato starts wearing goggles, a friend of his calls him Yolei.

And it seems Davis will be the narrator at the end of every episode.

Well, at least his voice will. After all Takato sound almost exactly like him. Plus, his teatcher sounds just like Kari (funny, seeing that Kari became a teatcher at the end of 02) and the first of the two tech girls both looks AND sounds just like Yolei!

And, if I may let the fanboy in me take control, this DEFINATELY looks to beat 01 and 02. The animation sure is better to say the least.

Yeah...it definitely looks like this will be a great season.

Note : The closing credits list Davis and Kari. This leads me to think that Kari will also do the narration thing at the end of the episodes. I think she did do it for the first episode, but that was cut because FK edited both episodes together.

Interesting thing about the opening credits : They seem to show the champion and ultimate forms of each of the Digimon AND their Mega forms (but just shadows).

Now for a nit :

In trying to convince his friends Digimon are real, why didn't Takato shows them his digivice.

By Blitz on Sunday, September 02, 2001 - 2:29 pm:

I thought I had a nit, but it turns out I didn't. I was wondering why Guilmon hatched from his Digiegg as a rookie instead of a baby. In 01/02, it'd be a nit, but 03's based on the card game and the cards make rookie the lowest level.

Oh really? I didn't know. So, no in-training or baby forms this season. Interesting.

I know, it kinda throws you for a loop doessn't it?

This episode and the next aired as two seperate episodes on YTV...and here are some of the changes for this episode. The episode ends after Guilmon blasts the rat and Takato says he doesn't like rats. Then Guilmon turns to Takato and Takato freaks out and yells "Guilmon! Stop!" (because he thinks Guilmon is gonna blast him)

And the narration by Davis is : "Oh. Dude. That is harsh. Will Takato get toasted on Guilmon's grill? Find out on the next Digimon : Digital Monsters".

I seem to recall Takato's line being in the one-hour verion too.

I know. I was just describing at which point the first episode ends and the second begins.

The third season defenity has a great start and looks to be really good.

Also the second tech girl sounds like Jun.

Hmmm... That she does.
