Duel With The Devas

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Digimon: Digital Monsters: Season Three: Duel With The Devas
A kid playing with his Digimon cards bumps into a guy in a yellow jacket. As he passes the kids, he intentionally drops down a card. The card eventually finds its way to Henry. When he tries to pass it through his digivice, it glows brightly and transforms into a blue card.

Henry shows the card to his dad. He scans it in his reader and claims it's nothing but meaningless data.

The three tamers join up and try to track down the kid who found the card. The kid says he got it from a man in a yellow jacket.

Later on, Henry's dad sees Impmon and Terriermon and realizes that Digimon are in the real world. Terriermon confronts Impmon and he leaves. Henry runs away from his dad with Terriermon.

Some time later, the three tamers are walking through the city when they encounter two more Ultimate Digimon Devas : Pajiramon and Vajramon. Terriermon and Renamon battle but are no match for the two Ultimates. Terriermon digivolves to Gargomon. But he is still no match. Henry tries modifier card after modifier card, but nothing works.

Takato finally suggests the blue card. After a couple of moments of hesitation, Henry passes the card through his digivice while shouting, "Digimodify! Matrix digivolution!"....AND....nothing.

Suddenly, Calumon's head crystal fires a red light into the sky and Gargomon digivolves to Rapidmon, his ultimate level.

Rapidmon apparently defeats both...but Vajramon survives somehow.

Back at home, Henry apologizes to his father for keeping his Digimon a secret. Mr. Wong reveals how the Digimon were created and that the "meaningless data" contain the Shibumi code.

Much to Rika's surprise, Vajramon shows up and Renamon leaves with him...

Well, it seemed to me that the special card was 'dropped' by Yamaki and that Shibumi might be a special destruct code. However if this is true then how could Yamaki be sure that the card would end up in the hands of one of the Tamers?

The first smart move by the Devas' leader, sending 2 Devas to attack. And it seems like these Devas are being given some personality.

Did I hear right? It sounded like Henry gave Terriermon Thor's Hammer, but wasn't it called Volton's Hammer in Season's 1 & 2?

Loved the visual gag of little Terriermon wielding a big hammer though. :O

Can't say much for Rapidmon's appearance though. Looks like a hunchbacked robot. Kinda like something that woulda been rejected for a Power Rangers' villain.

I wonder if it will be revealed that Renamon is of Deva descent? Hmmmm...?

Not sure if this should be a nit or not. But the Digimon movie got it wrong. :) In the movie, Rapidmon was the result of Terriermon "golden armor digivolving". Here, it's Terriermon's ultimate form.

Oh...and that weird card that he dropped...you know, before it turned into a blue card, the one everyone thought was a fake, I have it. It's a "resist downgrade" card. So it's a real digibattle card. So why does everyone think it's fake

Well, we didn't get to examine it up close. Maybe the text was wrong so they thought it was a bootleg?

It wasn't Yamaki who dropped the card. It was Mr. Mizuno whose code name is SHIBUMI.

And the hammer was called Vulcan's Hammer in the first two seasons.

There are two Digimon called Rapidmon. The Armor type seen in the movie is gold colored, any the Ultimate type is green.

I was also wondering the same thing about that card.

Yeah, later episodes showed me I was wrong about who dropped the card.
