Digital Beauty

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Digimon: Digital Monsters: Season Three: Digital Beauty
Rika's mother sets up a camera test for her. She is not too happy about the whole modelling thing. She leaves, angry at her mother.

Meanwhile, Takato and Henry conduct a search for Vajramon and Renamon. Rika also tries to use her D-Power to find Renamon with no success.

Later on, we get a glimpse into the non-existent life of Riley, employee of Hypnos. She has to continually turn down dates because of her job. She wonders about the use of this program. The chase of the wild ones seems to be useless, since only the Tamers seem to be able to handle them. She arrives at work in time to find a large digital field at the sports arena. She detects the same "wild one" from before (i.e. Vajramon).

Inside the digital field, Renamon and Vajramon meet to talk. (What the heck have they been doing since last night). Vajramon offers Renamon the chance to join the Devas and serve the Sovereign Digimon.

The kids, Guilmon, Terriermon and Calumon join in the "party". Calumon acts like the goof he is, not realizing how dangerous Vajramon is. Guilmon and Terriermon digivolve and battle Vajramon. But the two champions are no match for this Ultimate. Renamon joins in the fight, dissappointing Vajramon. She digivolves into Kyubimon.

But three champions are still no match for one Ultimate, even after many modifier cards are used. Rika suddenly finds the blue card into her possession, which allows Kyubimon to digivolve to Taomon. She is able to defeat this Deva.

Rika calls her a hero.

Okay, at the end of last episode Renamon & Vardramon leave together to talk, then partway into this episode Vardramon & Renamon appear & meet at the stadium to talk. Ummmm, what happened to them walking off to talk?
Vardramon: So we'll meet at this stadium to talk, okay?
Renamon: Sure, but let's make it late in the day so I can get my beauty sleep.

So why didn't Vardramon attack Reka & the others? He knows that's where Renamon gets her power from and she has already decided not to join the Devas. Definitly a tactical mistake on his part.

Taomon is pronounced with a T sound. I believe Tao is supposed to be pronounced with a D sound.
(The real nit belongs to the original person who translated Chinese into English. He should have spelled it Dao not Tao.)

Okayyyyy, so where did Taomon pull that tail/brush out of? Might explain why she stands so straight. :-o

When talking about Riley someone mentions that she supposedly works for a Top-Secret group. Doesn't sound that Top-Secret if gossipers know about it.

By Blitz on Thursday, November 15, 2001 - 6:53 pm:

Well, it's not like they know what the top-secret group actually does. Now if they whispered that she works with a shadowy orginization that tracks the movements of strange creaturees composed of computer data that are somehow able to enter our world but they can't really do anything to stop them THEN something'd be wrong!

Also, the sceen we're picking on shows one of the best things about Tamers. It's nice to see bad guys who don't just spend every wakeing second being a jerk for the heck of it.

By KAM on Friday, November 16, 2001 - 5:39 am:

I never considered Riley or the other girl as a jerk. Yamaki on the other hand...

Also I wouldn't call the girls bad guys. They have a job to do & they do it, monitoring the digital plane.
It's Yamki who makes the bad decisions.

By Rene on Friday, November 16, 2001 - 5:46 am:

I have to agree with you, there. Riley and her companion are just doing their jobs. They have nothing to do with any of Yamaki's decisions, and most of the time, it seems they don't approve of what he does.

By Blitz on Monday, November 19, 2001 - 11:58 am:

Yes, that's the part I like. Most of the bad guys in 01/02 are totally 100% evil for no given reason at all. On the other hand, the folks at Hypnos aren't trying to be bad at all, they're just doing a job. When I made the "jerk" crack, I was trying to say that Riely's NOT one. She's just a regular person, which is far more interesting than a 2-D baddie as in 01/02.

Also, I know that Hypnos genuinely believes that they're doing the right thing, and they've got good intentions, but they're also adversaries to the Tamers in that they'd most likely jump at the chance to put them out of action by takeing their Digimon. Thus they still qualify as "bad guys', even if they're not THAT bad...

Kind of like the IRS, then?

By Blitz on Saturday, November 24, 2001 - 12:52 pm:

Exactly!
