The Boar Wars

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Digimon: Digital Monsters: Season Three: The Boar Wars
When tremors shake the city, Henry and Rika suspect something is up.

Meanwhile, Jeri joins Takato, Kazu and Kenta, hoping they will teach her the card game. Kazu and Kenta try to make her trade cards, but Rika shows up, volunteering to teach her.

Henry shows the kids the Chinese zodiac, indication a corrolation between the Devas and the 12 animals of the Chinese zodiac. After another bizzare incident with monkey boy, the Tamers find a really big pig. The Deva, Vikaralamon, shows up. The Tamers have their Digimon digivolves, but three Champions aren't enough.

So the Tamers get blue cards and the Digimon matrix digivolve. But at the same time, Yamaki activates Juggernaut at full strength, wanting to eliminate all Digimon from the real world.

I know I've complained about most of the Devas lack of personality, but I thought despite having no personality they showed that the pig Deva is a big threat when Growlmon, Kyubimon & Gargomon's attacks didn't even faze it.

This ep also seemed to answer some of the nits about previous eps appearances of convenient blue cards.

I was hopeing that 03 wouldn't stoop to sappy plot devices like the wishing thing, but it looks like my hopes were in vain.

It's mentioned that scientists couldn't pinpoint the epicenter because of weird readings. I'm sorry, but I just don't get this. The earth shakes the equipment readings designate where it most likely came from. It shouldn't matter if it was caused by an actual seismic event, a giant pig, a meteor striking the earth, or an above-ground nuclear bomb, it's just the shaking of the earth that the equipment is designed to measure.

Forget if it was this ep or the next one, but Yamaki is talking to the boss in the car & I thought, 'Is this guy always riding in that car?'

I guess he just REALLY likes that car!

Maybe he's a descendent of the Captain of the Golgafrinchan B Ark who was always in the tub? ;-)

Maybe he's an Enron employe and he's actually LIVING in that car!

To drag up an old nit, the Chinese Zodiac is again brought up in connection to the Devas, even though the whole idea of Devas is of Iranian descent by way of India. Maybe some info from a Chinese restaurant placemat maker's website merged with the text of a World Religions site and produced the Devas?
