Give A Little Bit

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Digimon: Digital Monsters: Season Three: Give A Little Bit
Things are not good: Beelzemon just gets more powerful, Jeri is parralized with grief, a strange power is rippling through both the digital world and this one, and Guilmon has become a horrifying monstrosity! As Megidramon and Beelzemon fight, the power of Megidramon’s anger-fueled digivolution threatens to shatter their entire layer of the digital world. Beelzemon starts to wonder if the Sovereign set him up to be destroyed when Makuramon appears and insists that he hurry up and finish the battle before it’s too late, along with some ill-timed insults. Of course, Beelzemon simply destroys him and takes his data. Now with the deva’s powers, he manages to absorb even Kyubimon and Rapidmon’s power (though a well timed “Alias” card saves Renamon and Terriermon) and overpower Megidramon. However, when Takato apologizes to Guilmon, the previous digivolution is reversed and the two Bio-merge into… Gallantmon!

(Oh, back in the real world, Ms. Wong unsuccessfully confronts Janyu over Henry and Suzi’s whereabouts. As they watch the fluctuations in the Digital World, Yamaki offers Janyu all of Hypnos’s resources to further their attempts to help the children.)

I assume Takato seeing Agumon in his 'vision" was a reference to Takato mentioning how Guilmon would be better than Agumon in the premiere?

Since when was Guilmon a Virus digimon? I don't ever remember hearing that before.

Another nod to the original game by having Growlmon digivolve into a nasty creature.

Bio-merging. Looked like DNA Digivolving to me.

The creators of Digimon must check out fan sites for ideas. I seem to recall concepts along the lines of Bio-merging being a popular idea for fan fictions a while before Tamers

I don't think TPTB needed to check out fansites to come up with that idea. Is it really that big a leap to go from DNA Digivolving between Digimon to Bio-merging between Digimon & Human?

Takato appears to be a eunech.

Also where did his clothes go? We didn't see them when he & Guilmon merged, so shouldn't they be lying on the ground somewhere?

By Blitz on Sunday, March 17, 2002 - 11:50 am:

Well, first off, I was just being a smart-aleck about checking out fansites.

Moving right along, I don't think that Takato actually striped down before merging with Guilmon. In stead, the whole sequence was, no doubt, added by the all knowing animators for the same reason normal Digivolving scenes are: so us poor, simple minded viewers would have a longer, easier to digest sequence and would have an easier time understanding what's happening. And, because clothes aren't really a "part" of Takato, they weren't added. Another "thing" they didn't add was, no doubt, left thanks to your friendly neighborhood FCC. >:)

Why does Lopemon say that the Sovereign “took away” her power to digvolve? Isn’t that what the Digivice and cards are for? Okay, so Beelzemon seems to do that to Terriermon and Renemon, though that seems a bit odd to me to. If their current forms are still intact, and no one says anything about their data being rewritten, shouldn’t a “digivolution” card get them right back where they were? Or is there some fine print on the “Alias” card I don’t know about? (frankly, I find it suspicious that they could give other Digimon the power to digivolve when the need Calumon to do it themselves, but if they could do it to Impmon, whom they didn’t even create…)

So, why did Megidramon’s tail appear to bat away Beelzemon’s bullets? Shouldn’t he have been eliminated at that point? (answer: because SOMETHING had to get rid of those bullets, and no other Digimon is powerful enough to do it)

Speaking of whom, Megidramon sure doesn’t make a very impressive showing as a fighter. Basically, all he does is fall on Beelzemon while the world falls apart around him.

Speaking of THAT, it sure is a good thing for Beelzemon that those beams coming out of Megidramon’s hazard symbol change direction. The close-ups of the symbol show them coming out in a pretty straight line, whereas the long shots show them shooting off to the side ad a pretty steep angle. Like I said, it’s a good thing they do this, because if they actually DID go straight, they’d slice Beelzemon into tiny little pieces since he’s directly in front of the symbol!

Two great lines:

“Once you start dating, I’m sure you’ll make LOTS of girls sad!” –Gardrumon to Kazu (Actually, everything that guys says is great)

“It’s so warm an inviting, it’s like a bathtub! A bathtub full of love!” –Calumon, on the light at the end of the tunnel (it’s just so absurd!)
