Azulongmon Explains All

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Digimon: Digital Monsters: Season Three: Azulongmon Explains All
In Japan, the team who originally created the Digimon program (including Janyu, Henry's father) work along with Hypnos to create an ark to rescue the kids from the Digital World.

Back in the Digital World, Renamon matrix digivolves to Taomon to battle help save the Tamers from Zhuqiaomon. Unfortunately, she is no match for him. Terriermon and Guilmon try to fight him but fall to the ground. Zhuqiaomon fires on them again but his attack is broken by Azulongmon, another one of the Digimon Sovereign.

It seems there is a disagreement among the four Sovereigns about how they must defeat their "true enemy". Zhuqiaomon believes that with the help of the catalyst (Calumon) they can become stronger and defeat the enemy. But Azulongmon believes that their digivolution is what is causing their downfall.

Zhuqiaomon will hear not of this. He fires on Guilmon and Terriermon, angered that Digimon would bring humans into his realm. Takato, not wanting to lose his Digimon, jumps down and biomerges with Guilmon. They are able to break Zhuqiaomon's attack.

Gallantmon and Zhuqiaomon battle, with the Sovereign not believing that the humans want to take over their World. Azulongmon breaks up this battle. It's the "true enemy" they should be fighting, not each other.

Meanwhile, Ryo and Cyberdramon encounter Ebonhumon, one of the Digimon Sovereign. Ebonhumon is guarding Baihumon's realm (the fourth Sovereign). It seems Baihumon is attempting to fight the true enemy, but is not very successful at it.

The digi-gnomes bring Shibumi to the Tamers. He informs them that the enemy is called the D-Reaper. Originally a simple program that ensured Digimon were kept under control, it has now become very strong and threatens the entire Digital World.

You know, I think Taomon is playing for some sympathy. She acts like she’s about to collapse shortly after she puts up the shield, yet she still manages to keep it going for most of the episode.

Why does Jeri’s face appear for a second just before Takato leaps off to biomerge with Guilmon? I can’t figure out what kind of connection we’re supposed to make there that I’m missing.

So the layers of the Digital World are the “physical” layers? Well then, what are the other layers and why can anyone stand on them (since they’re not physical?)

The episode title is a little optimistic, seeing that Azulogmon can’t explain much of anything about that the “true enemy.” (He also doesn’t explain why we can see through the layers of the Digital World, but that’s a nit I’ve already picked elsewhere)
