Beelzemon's Big Day

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Digimon: Digital Monsters: Season Three: Beelzemon's Big Day

What a minute... Did Shibumi say that the D-Reaper existed BEFORE the Digimon? That makes VERY little since.

Also, when the army takes a peak inside the blob, we see the the lower half of that skyscaper being eaten away. So how is the part sticking out the top standing up so straight?

Finally, I love that the comander of the Japanese army is apparently from Texas :)

Why does it make very little sense that the D-Reaper existed before them?

I found it odd that the kids had to bake their own bread, since bakeries usually have day-old bread. Later Takato even mentions that Riley buys day-old bagels. (Loved Yamaki's reaction to that.)

Finally we see the others react to the pain of their digimon.

So why couldn't they bio-merge in the real world? Sure they were converted to data to be in the digital world, but the digimon must be converted to some form of matter to exist in the real world & they can still digivolve.

Say Blitz, how are you at getting the names of episodes before they air & writing plot summaries? If Rene has left for good this board will need a new moderator.

Hehehe, well turned out to be the new mod, but Rene's the one who pointed me to the episode titles.

Not that we're going to have to worry about staying ahead of air dates any more. Drat.

:)

I guess we're gonna have wait until July for the last 8 episodes...and then...no more :(

Now now, don't be so sad, kids. That's what DVDs were invented for.

...Oops, I never explained why I was thrown off by the whole D-Reaper thing. Wasn't the D-Reaper created to control Digimon? Why do that if you don't have anything to control yet? (actually, don't pay too much attention to this post, I haven't seen this episode in a while)

Oh, and I'll try to have some synopsis up when ABC Family gets around to these episodes.

I thought the D-Reaper was created to deal with out of control programs, not just Digimon.

It's just that Digimon are a good bit different than your run-of-the-mill program. How could they create something to counter what no one had ever seen? Yes, yes, I suppose an all-purpose "destroy everything" doodad like the D-Reaper wouldn't really need to be specifically designed for one type of program since "everything" covers... well, everything. It just seems impractical to make such a thing unless there are already a buch of little A.I. critters running wild.

Been years since I saw this ep so maybe there was something there that could explain it.

However...

How could they create something to counter what no one had ever seen?
Presumably a set of conditions/requirements are built into the D-Reaper. Anything meeting those conditions get deleted.

IIRC when programming AI there is a specific way to do it (my dad tried explaining it to me once, but I don't remember exactly what he said) so the D-Reaper would know what to be on the lookout for.

Also the programmers know the D-Reaper is there & that it's there for a specific purpose (I think conserving computer space & keeping things from going wild) so while it's possible some programmer might try to 'outwit' the D-Reaper, most would probably try to keep within any design parameters the D-Reaper has.

Perhaps the most telling thing that indicates the D-Reaper is older than Digimon is the fact that it essentially failed originally & the Digimon created the Digital world.

A more interesting question is how did the D-Reaper manage to overcome it's 'humble' beginnings & 'evolve' into something powerful enough to deal with Digimon?

Something in me wants to disagree, but to be honest, it's been about that long sisne I actually saw this episode myself. Thankfully, ABC Family should be airing it within a few weeks, so I'll be able to see if I'm actually remembering a nit or just going crazy (or both)
